volvo is not more than chinese junk , i have 2022 electric volvo , change battery under waranty new in the box ( MADE IN CHINA ) , and now electric motor noisy , dealer order new one in the box ( MADE IN CHINA ) , why i pay for volvo and i get a CHINESE JUNK ??? next time i will buy a Geely , same car at half price

I've had a C40 since January and am very pleased with it. I found your review informative and well-balanced, though I have a different take in couple of areas. I use "one-pedal driving" all the time, as I think most C40 (and XC40 Recharge) owners do. It took no time at all for me to be able to drive as smoothly with one-pedal on as I could with it off. Incidentally, it's a bit of a misnomer to refer to it as "regen braking" as regen braking occurs whenever one depresses the brake pedal, regardless of whether one-pedal driving is turned on or off. The only time regen braking is augmented by the friction brakes is when one depresses the brake pedal sharply, as in an emergency situation. Among the few things I don't like--which you didn't mention--is the coverage of the rear-view mirror. Because of the coupe design that view is pretty bad, especially for tall drivers. I wish they would have provided a remote camera, perhaps integrated with the shark fin. I knew that was a problem before I ordered the car, but thought I could adapt, and I have.

Well made points! One pedal driving works for some for sure, and I have no doubts I would adapt. And yes you are correct on the visibility - all the 'coupe like' SUV / Cars suffer from this, some worse then others. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your C40!

Been driving one for a couple of weeks now while my XC60 R-design Polestar is in the shop! Love it! I'm addicted to speed so love the get-up-and-go! Don't love the limited view in rearview mirror but dropped the rear headrests so that helped a bit. I don't know that I'd invest in an electric car however any time soon as I like to take long road trips...

Pros and Cons to both, and many aren't happy that these are China built. Teslas definitely pack a punch especially in the performance category, but the fit and finish on this Volvo all around was great. Thanks for stopping by today!

Volvo XC40 Recharge is my daily driver. I love the thing. I had a TV reporter interview me about NEVI-Compliant charging and when I dropped the hammer, she began giggling like she was seven. Tesla has chill mode. Volvo engineers forgot to add any concept of that and left it wide open. It is also able to be glamped in. I fold the back seats down and put in an air mattress. As far as EVs go, the Android Auto is IMHO best in class for SoC destination estimation. It is one of the few that correctly estimates the effects on an EV from changes in elevations. If your goal is an EV that eaks out every ounce of efficiency, look elsewhere. If you want a comfortable, fun to drive, EV with a lux look & feel, I have to say this is an underrepresented option. As far as range goes, if you say 60 miles in an hr avg for highway, then 180 is three hrs. I am fine with the 240 I get. Every 3 hrs. I would prob stop anyway for bio breaks or stretching my legs. I agree the EV info is lacking. That seems to be the trend with higher end cars. We just got a Cadillac Lyriq and it too is the same way. I think the thought is too much info gets confusing so they leave it simple as a percent of full. Thx for the vid. I enjoyed watching.

Awesome take - I agree with your points! I was thoroughly impressed and VERY happy to see manufacturers take on TESLA finally, and offer products that are (IMHO) better in almost every single way. This C40 would make a fantastic DD around town , in an EV while still having that PREMIUM feel to the car. Enjoy yours and thanks a bunch for stopping by!

Then I can happily say that the 2024 model comes with much more range RWD up to 359 miles!!! (578 km) ❤ It's gonna be the "perfect" car!😉

@@seatroutonfilm Oh wow I wasn't aware. Yes - reducing weight like that will also help that range. I typically almost never would need 200+ day to day so this would make the perfect daily for me around town --BUT extra range always helps especially when/if trips are involved. If you've not yet installed OTA update version 2.9 you may wish to do so. The big three improvements are: 1) remaining range is now shown in driver display, right below percentage of battery remaining; 2) lane-keeping can now be toggled on and off with a previously-unused button on the steering wheel; and 3) Apple Maps can now be displayed on the driver display.

@@CaryInVictoria Cary we only had the car for a day so this will be up to the current / next owner to do! These are great upgrades, and overall I found the whole package to be buttoned upon well. We can't wait to see what the bigger electric Volvo offerings will be soon and will likely commit to one at that point. Thanks for the feedback :)

Excellent review and you covered almost all the bases. I own a C40 and allow me to highlight a couple of points. Not deal breakers and NO car at any price is perfect 1> You are 100% on that bare piece of useless "panoramic" glass- either allow us to cover it or fill it in and keep the car cooler. Worse- I just left my car in 105 degree Texas heat for 3 hours- while the glass actually is pretty decent at NOT emitting heat- if you TOUCH IT it will SCALD YOUR HAND! I mean like lawsuit hot! How did Volvo allow this? I think they should retrofit these with a manual sliding cover of some kind. 2> I am not a fan of the seats. They are NOT terrible and are OK but they are not up to the usual EXCELENT cushy Volvo seats. They are "German" firm. Worse the recycled "sustainable" fabric at some point has PLASTIC in them and when the car gets overly hot like in AZ and Texas - the seats stay warm and makes your back sweat even after the AC has cooled the car down! Another miss. I am getting leather seat covers put on to alleviate this. Hey ALL CAR MAKERS- many of us who buy EV's DONT do it to "save the planet" with all the "sustainable" bullshit- and most of us still want leather. IMO. I know I do. I dont mind it all over the car- but DONT mess with the seats. Volvo is not the only one that is guilty of this. BMW I4 (Leather is optional) Lexus RZ and Lower end Mercedes EV are all this sustainable low rent crap. Again throughout the car- no problem. But seats must be leather IMO. NOT a deal breaker cuz the rest of the car is excellent- drives like a dream love both modes of driving one pedal and normal- in normal mode you can COAST for a LONG time and add extra miles to your range. One of the greatest things that I didnt know (and I dont know if this has been the case) is you get 4 years of FREE SIM card for the Android OS! And that is just fantastic- and makes up for the no AM radio Bullshit. Really thats just a great thing and not sure many know of it.Oh I do wish that there was fan speed 1.5 from fan speed 1 to fan speed 2 is a huge difference and the fan blows TOO LOUD in position 2. The range is fine for me- I have a gas powered BMW and Lexus to go long distances. But for where I live and how I drive to work and back- this is the PERFECT daily driver- after cover that useless glass roof! Again thanks for the review. Oh and get it in Fjord Blue and it looks a LOT better than the white. And you are right- the driving dynamics are pretty much perfect with little body roll and smooth over crap roads.

Yep you nailed it, still some quirks to workout otherwise I was very IMPRESSED with the overall package, if range isn't an issue! Yes - many manufacturers started cutting the leather or making it optional which is a shame. Some do fake leather better then others, but overall I still much prefer the real thing! don't besmirch Volvo by calling it a swedish tesla. :) -- the C40 is so much better than anything tesla has on the market. in terms of design, class, and fit/finish .. and of course -- safety. you are spot-on about original MSRP pricing. Way too much. mine is a maxed out version 61,500. but I got it for 44.300... in a lease -- 2 years.. Trade the thing out for another volvo electric when they have more range which will come fast. the 2024 already gets a decent bump.

No, wrong. It’s Swedish. All the development is made at the same place in Sweden as always. All she safety testing/development is still Swedish. Why do you think the Chinese was so much in a hurry to buy the company. Knowledge and experience. Some of the cars are made in China, some in Belgium and some in Sweden. Like Polestar, a spinoff of Volvo. Designed and developed by Volvo. Their old Performance brand. I own a Volvo V40 Polestar R edition, A Polestar 2 DM AWD and the Volvo C40 DM AWD. Polestar 2, Volvo xc40/C40 is basically the same car expect from the outer part of the car. The rest is the same

@@thedesertroadot going make a complete list but one of the first is they do not all come in 4wd. You have the old model fwd single motor and 4wd dual motor. The 2024 model ( which is the one you order now ) is rwd single motor ( same upgrade as polestar 2 ) or the 4wd dual motor. No idea if you can get them in the US but that does not mean they do not exist.

@@TheRedstonelabz1 In the USA it's still only on 2023 ordering. It's only available in AWD dual motor here as well. We can only cover USA versions as there is too much variation when you go worldwide. We have different specs / colors / options available to us here. So far there have been no inconsistencies in what I reported on. Anything else you picked up on?

@@thedesertroad if you only want to target a US audience you might want to mention your information is only for US viewers. To other viewers the info is quite useless since europe has more trim options and the US seems to only get the top trim.
