Problems on different stress pattern are relatively easy to handle.
In this section, students are asked to identify the stress pattern of a given set of words and to pick out an option that has a different stress pattern as the correct answer.
The following are the steps that you can take to answer questions in this section:
1. Go through all the options and identify the stress pattern of each of the given words.
2. Stress the first syllable of a disyllabic word if the word is a noun or an adjective.
3. Stress the second syllable of a disyllabic word if the word is a verb.
4. Stress the second syllable to the end of a word that ends with -ic, -ion, -al
5. Stress the third syllable to the end of a word that ends with -ate, -cy, -ect, -ent, -ence
6. Stress the fourth syllable to the end of a word that ends with -ive, -ure, -aire.
7. Finally, pick out the word with a different stress pattern among them and mark the option as the correct answer.

In number 45 belief is also a noun, so it should be stressed on BE

I very much appreciate this comment. I did not quite get that explanation, although my answer was correct. The word is actually a noun and not a verb. Now this is the correct explanation. First of all, kindly note that the stress is not on the first syllable’BE’ as you supposed, but on the second syllable. The word ‘belief’ transcribed as /bɪˈliːf/ and as a noun was supposed to be stressed on the first syllable by my explanation in the video. However, an exception played out. As you know, there are so many exceptions in English. There are two contrasting sounds in the two phonemes of the word, BE-LIEF (that is between the short /ɪ/ in the first syllable and the long /iː/ version of the same sound. When this happens between two sounds in English, we carry out what is called shifting stress. In other words, the stress would shift from the syllable that contains the weak sound to the syllable that contains the stronger version of the sound. This explains why the stress is on the second, and not on the first syllable. I hope this helps 😊 Overall, you’re appreciated 🙏
