I met you and your wife in Corner Canyon a few weeks ago. I was on the old 575 and followed you down Rush. Great review! I’m a bit of a bike nut like you, I’ve had 12 different bikes in the last five years.. it’s addicting! Now that we know there’s not much difference in pedal efficiency between the SB120 and the SB140, It would be interesting to see if there’s much difference between the SB140 and SB160. I had the SB140 27.5 and loved that bike, I think I’m going to give this one a try. BTW.. Your boy is a great little shredder!! Soon, he’ll be passing you up.. believe me I know from experience!! Lol

Demo'd the 140 and agree with pretty much everything that you have mentioned. Best all around bike I have ridden for sure. It wasn't quite enough to pull me away from my current SB130LR though, better for sure but couldn't justify the upgrade.

For the SB150 owners out there....the geo on the 150 and new 140LR are REALLY similar. I've put a Fox 36 fork and Float X on the SB150 and I run it as a "lighter-weight" all mountain rig...vs a pure Enduro race bike. It's a great way to make that SB150 fit this category if you're not wanting to trade out for a new bike....

I can confirm that that the 140 feels V. Similar to the 150 size and geometry wise. My son has the 150 and I demoed the 140.

Greetings from Denmark. Love your videos, and personal take on bikes. I ride SB100 in XC setup and SB120 in Trail and light trail setup...140mm Pike up front. I had a guy riding a sb140, also with a Pike 140mm, trying out my bike, and he couldn't tell the difference. I am kind of confused why Yeti makes two bikes this close, missing out on the XC/Downcountry(P my french) segment. Love my SB120 tough, but feel i could just as well have purchased the sb140....Keep up the good work, and more videos including your son. Cheers 🙂

I loved my sb130LR. I custom built it from fox model to having top sram stuff and a 38 and float x2. At that point it was my do everything bike and I was doing some local enduro races up in PCMR and Heber. Unfortunately that bike and one other was stolen from my garage. But I’m on a new Santa Cruz nomad and I’m loving it!

@@mtbyumyum it’s really good. I’ve had it since February. It is my first SC. I’m on a XXL frame one of my favorite features is the size specific chainstays and frame stiffness. They really went above and beyond there and I feel like I’ve never fit better on a bike in my adult life. Something I didn’t really notice until I had the opportunity to ride a bike that was a bit better sized for me. I got to demo the mega tower as well. With the MX setup on the nomad those bikes are really close now. The mega tower is slightly more harsh and is a little faster rolling but if you can compensate for the smaller wheel out back you get all the benefits of having that easier to handle rear end in the corners and jumps. I live in golden now so it’s been up to trestle bike park and done a lot of the rides here in the foothills. It’s been a great bike. They specked them a little weird and the RockShox reverb I have has issues. But the frame and the reserve wheels from SC are amazing!

Great video !! My uphills are steep enough that even at 140 up front I’m pulling with the hands at times in steep sections which is harder on the back as you know. Your uphill doesn’t look too steep but KZfaq isn’t a perfect look. What are your thoughts on the bike choice knowing uphill is tougher even though you want downhill snappiness and support?

Very good review! Just curious if you made any adjustments to the handlebar rise and if you have longer or shorter stem? I struggled a bit with the leaned forward position the yeti’s put you in

I currently own the SB140 LF 27.5 model and love it being a 5'7' tall guy and it such a shredder. other than the tire size difference and tweaks to the current SB140, I like your opinion on the difference and if it was worth an upgrade. I'm actually considering a Pivot 429 or Shadowcat to my quiver.

In this category it is currently the best bike! The new Transition Smuggler is an excellent "trail" bike especially on flow trails! I actually prefer it over my SB140LR on flow... you need to demo it!

Great review congratulations. I'm going to get a frame kit and mount it with an Eagle XX1 groupset with Q factor 168 but I've read that the new SB140 has a Dub Wide bottom bracket. Do you know if I can adapt my XX1 Eagle crankset? how did you do with your XTR crankset? Thank you

This bike is pretty high on my list of possible next bikes. I’m currently on a 2020 switchblade. Just want to try something new soon. Another bike that has me interested is the new smuggler. The geo on the sb140 and the new smuggler are remarkably similar according to bike insights

The SB140 is an easy transition from the Switchblade. Both share that unique supportive feeling out back… I think you’ll feel right at home on it! Has that similar get up any climb characteristics but with better descending geo and just generally smoother feel

I'm curious about how the sb140LR compares directly to the Switchblade. I really enjoyed my demo on a switchblade for its balance between climbing, plushness and pop. Does the yeti just amp up all of those metrics?

65* HTA and 77* STA is about the perfect Trailbike geometry. The 160mm Fox 36 with the Grip 2 damper is maybe the best Trailbike fork ever made. Combine that with a rear suspension that pedals efficiently, climbs well, and doesn't wallow. What's not to like? I ride the Stumpy Evo with the same fork and geo. So Good!

Wow, I should have just said that and been done with the review! Well said! I also really like the sj evo... been riding it a lot back to back with the sb140 and occassionally on the descent I can feel the back of the evo skipping around just sort of lacking control... the sb140 doesn't do this. Just feels planted and solid! I think the evo fits me a little better tho

@@mtbyumyum I don't doubt that the sb140 has better rear suspension. However, the Stumpy EVO rear suspension isn't terrible either. I'm often surprised. I think I'm in over my head on a loose rough corner and the Stumpy EVO maintains traction and holds the line. Or, I'm charging across a boulder field and I think I'm going to get bucked but the bike hunkers down and sucks it up. So much fun!

I am curious on your thoughts comparing the 140 LR and the Trail 429. How close are they pedaling? I am in CT so we have lots of technical punchy janky sections(xc stuntry) combined with flowy(for CT) single track. Our DH sections are minute's at most before it is flat or going up hill.

I’m looking at the 140 but found the demo sluggish on the flat, what have you changed on your bike to keep it sprightly? Demo bike was around 33lbs I would guess with the standard aluminum wheels, turq frame. Loved the bike coming down, but wanted a bit more zip.

Great review! I’m considering this bike as a quiver killer. I currently have a Revel Rascal love this bike. I see a lot of reviews comparing Yeti to Yeti, how would you stack the SB140 to the Rascal?

I owned and rode a Rascal in 2021. Fun bike, but not on par with this Yeti. The Revel has a very unique feeling. Very deep feeling. The Yeti feels more supportive. Probably a better do it all Bike.

I'm considering swapping the Reynolds/Hydra on my T429E for some yum yum wheels w/ 240s. Main goal is weight savings, any experience with how they hold up with a slightly heavier rider at ~185? They'd be my only wheel set, I ride decently hard but not crazy, sub 3 min on Jacobs FWIW. I figure you've ridden both wheel sets, thoughts?

Best thing, call Chris. He won’t sell them to you if they’re not a good fit for your riding style… they come with a 3 yr warranty and the last thing he wants to do is be warranting wheels all the time. Fwiw, I love my yumyum wheels and they’ve been problem free!!

It really just depends on your speed, terrain and riding style. Without knowing your train, I hesitate to recommend a specific tire, but I really really love the Maxxis Rekon for more moderate trails

@@mtbyumyum Thanks for reply, my is area is tropical, hot and humid. Trails are natural tight twisty single tracks with roots and sand, not a whole lot of sloppy mud. All slow speed tech riding. Moderate graded trails.

I would love to hear your thoughts on how this compares to the new Trek Fuel EX. I was leaning towards the Trek due to its efficiency and adjustability (everywhere). However, your reviews of the Yeti are making me second-guess myself. I'm sure both are amazing. Have you ridden the Trek? Initial thoughts? Thanks again for keeping us all informed!

22' Giant Trance X Advanced Pro with a MegNeg Deluxe Ultimate... That's my most balanced bike to date out of about 80 bikes. I've been testing it against the 23' Trance Advanced Pro 29... Using a 55mm stroke shock instead of the stock 50mm. The Trance X still outpaces the Trance. The Trance is more stout, but doesn't absorb trail chatter the same way and consequently doesn't keep pace with the Trance X. However, if speed is your main balance with a 125mm 55mm stroke r qr shock, then Trance would be the most balanced in my opinion. I haven't ever rode a Yeti. Been picky about carbon full-suspension 6-pound frame set bike builds. Yeti has always been in the 7-pound region from what I've heard.

I've been running 145 psi on these Trance's and they really love to climb. But again, it's kind of like a choice of pedal performance with a great bottom out resistance on the Trance vs great pedaling platform with a flavor of sport, poppy, and bottomless on the Trance X when properly setting up the DeLuxe Ultimate.

this review just reminds me how bummed I am after 3 years of having my 2020 stumpjumper stolen, i had it setup with a 160 fork and 140mm of rear wheel travel it was AMAZING!! it was so light and climbed like a champ but still was capable enough to ride basically most of all the trails I ride.

I've owned both those bike this entire season... actually just sold the evo 3 weeks ago. Both bikes are incredible! The 140 is more composed when things get a bit higher speed as the switch infinity suspension just works a bit better and has more support and control out back. For awhile I thought the SJ evo was the better deal because they were so discounted but now Chris at Salt Cycles has the sb140 up to 25% off and that's the better deal in my opinion. Either way, both bikes are incredible. The 140 climbs better too....

Hi. I really like this bike. In fact I am considering order one. Quick question. Do you think this bike is also good for 30-40 miles of flat pedaling? The trails where live doesn’t have to many downhill characteristics. They are more narrow single tracks in which you have to be very agile to maneuver. Lots of roots and stones. Would you still recommend this over the 120 ?

Great question! In short, maybe😆😎 I would be very interested to try out the sb140, non lunch ride, if I were in your situation… it doesn’t sound like you would benefit much from the float x shock on longer fork of the lunch ride sb140. For the price Salt Cycles is selling SB140’s right now, easy, I’d go with the Yeti over the Pivot just for the price right now. Plus, I think it’s probably the better Bike.

How does this bike compare to the evil offering v1? I know you really enjoyed that bike a few years ago. Im thinking about upgrading from the offering.

I liked the playfulness of the offering and it fit me well... also jumping on it was very intuitive and natural but it lacked that "giddy up and go" and didn't climb all that well. It's fun to ride bikes like the Hightower and Offering but I'm not sure I'm interested in owning them... I like my bikes to feel zippy on blue trails and balanced and controlled on black trails. It's difficult to do both and this SB140 does it better than anything else out there in my experience. That's what I always appreciated so much about the Ibis Ripmo... could sort of do everything really well and still be a blast on blue trails. Again, the SB140 does it better and climbs incredibly well.

Couldn’t agree with you more … I’m on a Large SB140LR (I’m 5’10”) so i kinda fall in between sizes. Coming from a Megatower V1 to this I can honestly say that the Yeti gains so much in versatility while not giving up too much on the DH side. Ironically due to the Megatower’s firm running the Yeti feels plusher on most things with less travel. When you get going really fast on chunk though … the megatower would come alive and feel amazing. The Yeti still feels good … but not quite as much confidence. However … the Megatower only felt this way 5% of the time …. The rest of the time the Yeti is a huge winner while coming a close second for the other stuff.

@@alstonchen1988no didn’t try the medium. I figured for me the stack is a bit low on this bike so I knew I was listing the front end up quite a bit about 25mm of spacers plus a high rise bar. Actually had to go to a 50mm stem from the 40 when I put the taller bars on

If you were looking to ride more undulating/xc trail on tight, twisty single-track but wanted a burlier ride how do you think the sb140 would fair? For reference I'd be coming from a ripley (that I loved except for the rear end which I felt wasn't progressive enough) and a ripmo (which I'm running the cascade link on)

I should also say, I normally ride a large but I might consider sizing down to a medium coming from that 475 reach on the ripmo, do some times feel like the large ripmo is a bit big for me so I would consider a 465 reach at 5'11

I actually think the sb140 fits nicely between the ripley and ripmo... give a try and see what you think! Another good options that I completely forgot to mention is the rocky mountain instinct. Very versatile bike!

I’m a rider that can only justify one bike at a time and typically ride mid-level blue trails with a decent amount of climbing and now and then rougher blues. I’m a little bigger at 6’2” 205lbs and liked the idea of the stability of the SB120 over the Ripley and even considered putting the Fox 36 140 fork on it for a half a degree slaker HTA and stiffness. I’ve watched all your videos trying to make the best decision and thought before today the SB120 was the way to go. Now I’m wondering if the SB140 non LR is really what I should be looking at. Any reason to pick the 120 over the 140?

Of course I've not ridden the standard 140 but I've spent a lot of time on the 120 and 140LR and I can easily say go with the standard 140. I don't think you'll give up much if anything going that direction. You get much better trail geometry and 20mm without any major penalty in my experience... I think you'll love it! The Rocky Mountain Instinct is another good option... I forgot to mention that in the video

A few years ago I wouldn't have recommended a bike with a 160mm or longer fork. It would have been a heavy, squishy, wallowy, slow rolling, poor climbing, overly long and slack, and poor pedaling sled that was mostly good for descending. But, times have changed. Rear suspension got better. Geo doesn't have to be super long and slack. A 77* STA and 65* seems to be the sweet spot. Your bike doesn't have be set up with aggressive heavy slow-rolling tires. Bikes like the Stumpy EVO (with adjustable geo), Ibis Ripley, Ibis HD6, Yeti sb140, and Orbea Rallon can make really good all around trail bikes and especially, if you install some lighter, faster-rolling tires. I usually buy shorter travel 120-130mm rear travel bikes. I bought the Stumpy EVO because I got such a good deal but I didn't think I needed all that travel. Turned out to be the best bike I ever own and defied all the stereotypes I had about long travel bikes after I installed some lighter faster-rolling rubber. If I were you I would be seriously considering the sb 140 Lunch Ride with the 160mm Fox 36. In my opinion, the 160mm Fox 36 with the Grip 2 damper is the best Trail fork ever made. Modern long travel trail bikes are nothing like long travel bikes of just few years ago. They're not heavy, they pedal and climb well, they don't have too be overly long and slack, and with the right tires, they roll fast.

I chose the Hightower only due to cost (unfortunately was shopping during peak prices fall 2022, Yeti near me was $1k >) and yes I regret not going with the Yeti

@@mtbyumyum it's not horrible but I've been disappointed. Wicked pedal strikes due to low bb, frame creaks, all Rock Shox components had issues out of the gate. I knew some of this when demo'ing but figured it'd grow on me, 8 months later and I'm still frustrated.

I might be the wrong person to ask... I never liked the aggressor. I understand why people run it for it's thick knobs and excellent protection but I prefer the DHR II if I need a chunky tire. The rekon is easily my favorite tire for these blue trails... I've also been spending a lot of time on the new Forekaster... it's got taller knobs than the rekon but the jury is still out if it's actually better...

I ride similar conditions in Durango CO. I run the 2.6 Rekon front and the 2.4 Rekon rear (both 60tpi) on my Stumpy EVO. Rolls very fast but deliveries way more traction than I expected. I've had no problem with punctures.

Recently switched from dhr2 front, aggressor rear to Dissector front and Rekon rear and there has been noticeable weight reduction without loss in traction. Very happy with this change. May try the new Forkaster up front in the near future

I just bought a New Pivot Switchblade mostly based on your experience and comments with that bike in the past and I was considering the 140 LR at the time. Would you be able to do more of a head to head comparison or at least comment on the differences you noticed between the two? The SB was your favorite for a while… curious what made you change your mind. Thanks!

The main difference is the switchblade can sort of feel a bit harsh through chunky sections of trail at higher speeds where the sb140 will feel very supportive but not harsh. The overall feel of the sb140 is just a little smoother too. Both bikes have a lot of support in the rear end and track the ground well.

I am looking for a do it all bike to get me deep out in some terrain in bigger mountains. It seems like I have landed my research on this bike as well as the Hightower and the Switchblade. What would make you go with one versus the other?

Switchblade and SB140 climb notably better than the Hightower. Hightower feels more plush and bottomless where the other two feel more supportive. Best of both worlds, Revel Rail 29. I've been riding one for the past 2 weeks and it's interesting! I would probably still take the SB140 over the Rail29 myself but I could see a lot of people really falling in love with the Revel. It's sort of "Big Mountain" bike that still feels quick at lower speeds... and absolutely bottomless... like magic carpet for real!!

At me LBS there is a carbon ibis ripley V4S - SLX build and it weighs 30 lbs 5oz. Is that normal weight for that? Seems heavy to me. And it’s tubeless with ibis alloy wheel set.

When I got my XL Ripley with deore it was 32lbs. Now I’ve built it up myself with nice parts it’s 27lbs. The stock Ripleys are quite heavy and the alloy wheels are heavy.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzfaq.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

I never rode the sb150 w the fox 38. Still, the sb150 felt bigger to me. Longer too.. not sure if it actually is but it felt longer and less willing to change directions. The sb150 also felt a bit more damp and bottomless.. the 140 in comparison feels more lively and poppy

Great review J , I tried the SC HT and for me I just really don’t get that bike , I don’t know if it’s just me but it doesn’t climb any better than the Nomad and it definitely doesn’t descend anywhere near as good, very strange bike tbh . Also you gotta try the Orbea Rise I think you’ll love it, honestly I think deep down like me you actually prefer trail riding compared to big ass DH stuff although it’s fun to go Mac chicken DH , a bike has to be amazing on normal trails but also fun DH 😂 that’s just my opinion and the Orbea Rise can do all that and also help on the climbs , it’s an incredible bike 👍🏾
