What a beautiful analysis and tear down of ChatGPT response. This myth that Bagavan didn’t prefer structured philosophy and that he asked people to merely sit in a corner asking who am I is very prevalent. It’s very misleading and I only understood it after listening to Michael. Thank you for the grace Michael Ramana 🙏

I love the air quotes you made when referring to bhagavan acting "normally." There is nothing normal about taking ourselves as a body. Good, clear explanation.

Regarding giving teachings according to the understanding of the enquirer. There is a wonderful story from the Buddhist tradition. An elderly devotee of Lord Rama asked Buddha if God existed or had he wasted his life ? Buddha said ' no god does not exist ' . Later on an elderly atheist asked Buddha if God existed or had he wasted his life . Buddha said ' yes god does exist ' . A monk who had heard both conversations asked Buddha ' I have heard you say one thing to one and something contradictory to the other - what is the Truth? ' . Buddha said ' The devotee of Lord Rama had taken a deep interest in the nature of Rama but had never enquired into his own nature. By telling him that god didn't exist then he would start to enquire as to whether or not he , himself , existed and thus the real spiritual journey would be started . . On the other hand I told the atheist that god did exist . By doing so he would start his spiritual journey ' . This isn't verbatim but does illustrate the saying ' horses for courses ' with regard to the seemingly contradictory teachings of the genuine GURU .🙏☸️🕉️

Is the seer and experiencer the same or different as experience is for the ego, but what the seer, does it also experience
@rblais

Bhagavan says there’s only one ego (seer or experiencer), so everything is projected and experienced by one entity.

Another fantastic stasang. I have one quey though. I know we have been over the subject of karma again and again but the same issue keeps arising for me. If everything happens according to the ordainment of God because of his special nature, then what room is there for any freedom of action on the part of the person? If someone follows an inclination to do something which is NOT part of prarabdha then how can that be everything happening according to God's will? Also, if we do not experience the fruit of our actions in this life time and we do somthing not according to our prarabdha surely we must experience the result of that action, e.g eating too much and getting the feeling of being stuffed afterwards??
@SriRamanaTeachings
@SriRamanaTeachings Ай бұрын
Namaskaram. The answer to your question is simple: All that we are to experience in each life is determined by the will of God, so it is called destiny or fate (prārabdha), whereas whatever we want to experience and accordingly try to experience is determined by our will, so we do have freedom of will (icchā-svatantra) and freedom of action (kriyā-svatantra) even though we have no freedom to change in any way or even to the slightest extent whatever God has ordained that we should experience in our current life. If we do any action that seems to bear fruit in this life, that fruit must already have been ordained by God as part of our current prārabdha. To use your example, if we eat too much and feel uncomfortable, that discomfort is part of our prārabdha, so even if we didn't want to eat so much, we would have been made to do so by God in accordance with our prārabdha. However, if we eat too much, in most cases we do so because we want to eat so much, so in such cases our will happens to coincide with our prārabdha, and because we are then acting under the sway of our own will, such actions are āgāmya and will therefore bear fruit, which will be stored in our sañcita. Namo Ramanaya 🙏🙏🙏

@@SriRamanaTeachings Thanks so much as that has cleared that up completely and I can now see that my resistance to accepting that everything happens as it should is finally over. It will make following Bhagavan's teachings so much easier. Thanks again🙂😊

I have just gone over my question and your answer again and there is still something unanswered. Is it possible to do anything and not experience doing it?? So back to the eating example, is it possible to eat more than destiny dictates OR eat less than destiny dictates? If we are able to then we would be experiencing eating more or less. In other words what I am getting at is if we do anything we will experience doing that thing which to my mind tells me everything we do is destiny which means we can't do anything else like follow or give in to the sway of our vasanas.

@@nicholaskemp4500 Namaskaram. If we choose to do so, we can go on raising endless questions about the law of karma, but how will that benefit us? Is that why Bhagavan taught us this law? Surely not, because that is all outward-going activity of the mind, whereas the sole aim of all his teachings is to turn our mind inwards, back towards our own being, ‘I am’. Then why did he teach this law? Why did he teach anything about karma at all? He taught us that we have to experience whatever we are destined to experience and that we cannot experience anything that we are not destined to experience in order to make us understand that it is futile for us to want to or try to experience anything or to avoid experiencing anything, so the only wise option is to turn within, unconcerned about all such things. So long as we are concerned about karma and its fruits, our minds will continue going outwards, so he taught us the simple principles of the law of karma to help us give up all concern about such things. If we are satisfied with these principles and understand why he taught them, we will give no further thought to such matters and will focus instead on what alone is actually useful and beneficial, namely trying persistently to turn within to see what we actually are. If on the other hand we are not satisfied with these simple principles, we will continue thinking about these external matters, and such thinking will give rise to endless questions, thereby distracting our mind away from what really matters, namely seeking to know the reality of this ‘I’ that rises to do karmas (such as thinking endlessly about anything other than ourself) and to experience their fruits. Namo Ramanaya 🙏🙏🙏

@@SriRamanaTeachings Thanks again for that and I totally take on board what you say. The reason why this particular question is so relevant for me is that for the past 40 years I have been living with teachings that proclaim that ALL actions are ordained by God and that the only free will remains for turning within. I recently read Upadesa Undiyar and thougth it said ALL actions were ordained by God, but I must have been mistaken. I now understand that the teachings are only there to get us to go within effectively and receive the true teaching in silence when we are purified sufficiently.
