Yall need to get a grip, anyone hating on an accomplishment like this most likely wouldn't even go 500 in PA or OH. And if you think not one of these guys wouldnt make states in PA you are tripping. Sunnyside HS has been a top 50 ranked team in the US in previous years. Don't know where they stand now, but its definitely still a very competitive HS.

First, I would like to congratulate the young LADY who got the win! And I used the word “lady” for a reason as it is obvious that she IS a young lady - she acts like it. I’ll bet that she come from a wonderful family too. This is in contrast to so many girls these days who clearly are not so lady-like. Second, I thank FloWrestling for posting these matches!! Most of us who used to wrestle (me 6 decades ago!) never get to see this level of HS competition. Thanks! Third, I have laugh at how so many ignorant people always misinterpret or over interpret a match like this one! They either: 1) trash the girl’s win as a fluke or act like it never should have happened or they make unkind, denigrating remarks about the boy for "losing to a girl"; 2) or on the other side they start screaming that this proves that girls are “equal or competitive” with boys in wrestling. NEITHER IS TRUE!!. The girl won this match fair and square by good, aggressive, and careful wrestling. The boy had the match in his hand but lost in the last 30 seconds because he did not plan well enough for his opponent (did he not know she was a leg rider?), and for half the match I feel that the he was overly cautious and not aggressive enough? In the third period he was leading all he had to do was hold on to her but on the cusp of winning he got careless for a second with his weigh placement and threw his victory away? I'm sure he feels awful but live and learn eh? But to say this girl's win means that, as a rule, girls are competitive with boys in wrestling is silliness. Consider these two points: 1) if the high-handed federal government were to allow boys to compete in the girl’s state tourneys ALL of the girls’ state wrestling champions would be BOYS - almost without exception! 2) Girls very rarely win state titles. Just ball parking (do the math! 😀) you can estimate that since Title IX there have been at least 20, 000 to 30,000 matches (probably more because many states have divisions) in the USA for a boy’s state wrestling title (all years, all states, all weight classes). So, the result? Only a handful of girls have managed to win one of those matches (I know about one in AK, VT, MA, NC, GA, SC, ME and now AZ) so 8 girls, all at 106 lbs. So by NO MEANINGFUL use of the word are girls actually “competitive” with boys in wrestling. Just saying! 😂🤣😂

Audrey Jimenez joins Michaela Hutchinson, Danielle Coughlin, Rachel Hale, Kennedy Blades, Hope Steffensen, Destiny Nunez, Heaven Fitch, Riley Holman, Maddie Riply and June Welch as State champions in the boys tournaments. These are just the ones off the top of my head. I am sure I have missed many others. State runner ups like Erica Dye, Calli Gilchrist, Deanna Rix, Kayla Miracle and Heaven Fitch are also very numerous. Many, many more have placed and stood on the podium at their respective State tournaments. They have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have earned their place on the mats.

What is it with this ("If she was in Ohio or PA she would never make it out of Districts") Bull? Too little too late for that, as a girl has already placed in the top 5 at the boys State Tournament in Ohio a few years back. Someone is not keeping up. It is just a matter of time before it happens in PA. unless they completely bar the ladies from the boys tournament. Female State Champions coming out of the boys tournaments are pretty numerous now, as are state runner ups and top 5 placements in several different states. They have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have earned their place on the mats.

@yanawins1 I agree there is not reason to diminish the accomplishment of the girl who won that state title. Nor should anyone belittle or mock the boy for "losing to a girl" I also agree that making comparisons across state wrestling programs could be pretty flaky too? But on the other hand if you are suggesting that girls are actually competitive with boys in wrestling -- that is not true IMO. Competitive means a realistic chance of winning every time not some super rare event that happens only at 106 lbs every few years or so? Since Title IX rudely, and wrongly, allowed girls to breaking into boys sports there have been maybe 25 - 30,000 matches in the USA for a boy's state wrestling title (do the math). Of those matches maybe 8 have been won by a girl and only at the 106 lb weight and mostly in the states with acknowledged weak scholastic wrestling programs. What is more to the point -- if boys were allowed to break into and compete in the girls state tourneys about 99.99++ percent of girl's wrestling champs would be boys! There is no doubt about that. LOL This girl won a title in an AZ division but she is a world class girl wrestler.

Don't put words in my mouth and try to refute something I did not say. I am simply going after the excuse makers that cannot handle it when a girl wrestler succeeds in this sport against guys. Having said that, their success rate is much greater than is realized and are given credit for as noted from the withdrawal of your first response to me. I have never claimed what you are implying I have claimed, but many girls have proven to be the best wrestlers in their state at their respective weight class. Only about 4 or 5 percent of wrestlers wrestling in the so-called boys programs are girls, so arbitrary, made up numbers trying to prove something here are meaningless. I have never denied that boys do have an advantage here. What I am saying is that the girls cannot be overlooked and some do turn out to be very successful even when competing with the guys. And yes, I mean competitive even using your narrow definition of the word. Many of these female state Champions win almost every single time.
@Mandolin1944
@Mandolin1944 3 ай бұрын
@yanawins1 Well I guess you are either a girl wrestler yourself or the parent of a girl wrestler? For sure you are definitely seem a bit "butt hurt" about this topic? First, the only reason I changed my original post is to acknowledge your three additional girls that won a title - I knew about 5 girls -- you pointed out 3 more (so 8 is "much greater" than 5 - if you say so I guess -- whatever.) The points I made in both versions of my post were identical - so my editing proves nothing. All my points remain true. If HS boys were allowed to compete in girl's state tourneys there would be zero girl champions -- or very close to zero. And you know that is true. As to girls being "competitive"? Sure, a person can torture any word and make it mean anything you want it to I suppose? But the facts are that a girl winning a state HS wrestling title in the BOY’S DIVISION (AZ calls it boy’s wrestling even if you don’t LOL) it is so rare that it becomes a national news story! If the situation were truly “competitive” like you claim that certainly would not be the case. QED!!! You say only 5% of wrestlers in boy's tourneys are girls? According to what data? You may or may not be right about that -- but there is a reason why there are so few girls there. The reason is MOST (like 95+%) of the girls can’t make it to the boys’ tourney because they are not competitive with boys. OK? In fact, ONLY the best or elite girl wrestlers even attempt it. So, the fact that a very few elite HS girls might rack up a winning records in a season against boys means what exactly? There is a Gaussian curve for both male and female ability - the fact that the trailing tail of the distirbution for boy wrestlers might intersect the leading tail of the distribution for girl wrestlers means nothing. This is true for all sports and all things biological really. Get serious, if an elite girl wrestler could not win against average boys then the sport/skill of wrestling would be meaningless. But that does not mean boys and girls are “competitive”. Do you claim girls are competitive with boys in track or field, basketball, volleyball, soccer etc etc. also? Even the very best girls can never win against the best boys. It is futile for the average girl wrestler to compete against boys -- of course they still do it -- but they almost never win. The only girls who have won state title seem to be at 106 lbs (save maybe one at 113??). There are some very good reasons for that of course and I assume that you know them also? -- it is not rocket science. The match in this video was between a WORLD-CLASS girl wrestler against some unknown boy in AZ -- the girl was far more experienced, and she had previously competed in international events -- right? Yet she was fortunate to win, and the match could have gone either way -- the boy made a fatal mistake in the last 30 seconds. Had he not this whole video would hardly receive any attention. That tells you all you need to know. BTW are the girl's programs then also only "so called girl's programs"?
@yanawins1
@yanawins1 3 ай бұрын
@@Mandolin1944 You still typed all of that in an attempt to refute things I never claimed. Makes me wonder why I even responded to you in the first place. Girls have been wrestling only a short time. The first I can remember was a girl named America Morris back in the mid to late 80's. Back then they were mocked and ridiculed by mostly guys who said they could never win. That they would be injured and had no business on the mat. A few years later some started to win. But it was considered a fluke and would never happen consistently. People claimed the males that they were beating were girly boys, they had no experience, they were going easy on the girls, the boys didn't know where to grab them, etc. etc. Here we are today with several state champions. It is not the norm, true, but it is definitely not a fluke. People are still making excuses trying to explain to us why this happens. They give all kinds of excuses instead of just saying "Hey, this girl has worked hard and has become a very adept wrestler. Good for her" It is not me that is butthurt. Have your read through these comment and seen all the butthurtness? I am frustrated at the butt hurt, hard headedness and the unwillingness to acknowledge the hard work of others and give credit where credit is due. Don't be that guy. The 4 or 5 percent may be a little high. It was 2 percent. A statistic I had read several times. The interest from the girls has developed and now many states have girls wrestling. The number percentage still wrestling with boys is very small though. This is the number of girls wrestling with the boys, period, not just in the tournament. Yes, thus far the number of state champions is small and likely not to grow much more because of the separation now, but the number of state champions doesn't show the whole picture. Many of these girls are competitive. Many have winning records who may not make it very deep into the states or may not make it into the tournament at all. You can lose a wrestling match and still be competitive. One can even get pinned but have a very close competitive match. We even had a girl here in my area win the county championship at 132 lbs. about 2 years ago. She had a winning record but it wasn't quite good enough to get her in the state tournament. She was successful and she was competitive. Nothing can change that. They have proven that they can be successful beyond any shadow of a doubt.

On an individual level the girl might be a wonderful girl to be around and easy to root for if you know her. However, highlighting this is bait. This is a largely conservative sport. A lot of thanking God at states in high school and nationals in college. This is simultaneously a suggestion that women are secretly better than men at everything and if they wanted to actually no man would ever be a qualifier again but at the same time if you noticed the implication there's enough plausible deniability that you can say "oh, no I'm just proud of this girl and her accomplishments." No you're not. You don't even know her. We just had international women's day, every TV show and commercial puts the wife ahead of the husband, every college is handing out extra scholarships to women, every fortune 500 company looks to put women in power. Individually great for this girl. Sure. However, societally this is part of, intentionally or not, a broad push to say women are better than men in every way. So naturally there will be hateful comments from men AND conservative women that would root for this young lady in an all women's competition.
