I know that the chess federation's must be secretly rooting for Hikaru to become WCC. He more than anyone else would bring more first time players to chess, and chess like everything else is about $$$. He has personality and charisma plus he has a huge stream audience. No question he would be great advertising for chess. Not too take anything away from GM Liren, but most ppl who don't play chess have probably never heard of him. And he's probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet, but he doesn't create passion for the game, like watching paint dry, it doesn't get you so fired up. Like Fischer, even those who didn't know what a pawn is have Heard of him. Not saying that Hikaru is like Fischer either in playing strength or personality, but of to the candidates, he comes the closest. He's a character who is also a very good chess player.
