One thing that so many seem to do that make a dually ride rough is tire pressure. I know so many that go 80 psi all the way around because the tire and manual states 80 psi. I have owned Dodge/Ram dually trucks for 20 years. I run 70 psi front, 45 psi rear when empty. Done the same with 3/4 ton diesel SRW. Every time the truck is serviced, they inflate to 80 psi, I drop the pressure as soon as I get home. I bump the rear up to 55-60 if towing heavy. I left the rear set at 45 psi and towed my 6,500 lb bay boat from NC to the Florida Keys and back, the truck rode great. Not only does the 80 psi make 2500 and 3500 trucks ride rough, 80 psi in the rear tires while empty wears the center of the tires and less tire on the road for control, especially in bad weather. I have a 2017 3500 dually Limited with 8' box. Removed the junk Nexen tires and installed Cooper tires running 70 psi front, 45 psi rear and Centramatic wheel balancers. Extremely smooth riding truck.

I agree, in most cases if you run the tire pressure slightly below recommended, you can easily soften the ride without modifications. GM trucks don’t allow you to run tire pressure lower than 58 psi (without a light coming on) so thankfully their trucks ride better right out of the gate, thanks for sharing!

Perfect explanation. My 3500 dually had 80psi when purchased. Terrible ride, UNTIL rear wheels went to 50PSI. Night and Day difference... dually stability great for bumper pull, or 5th wheel. 👍

@@JB_WhoWork - Good to know about GM. I have been looking at trading my Tahoe for a new 2500 High Country with Duramax. Riding around with 60 psi on the rear of a SRW just wear the center of the tires. Kind of ridiculous with the light

How does your fuel mileage go w/ the lower PSI? I've found I get better MPH closer to 70-75 PSI and the ride is decent.

@@kevincameron8437 - My truck gets good mileage but I am sure it would get a little better with higher tire pressure, I have never checked because I have never taken a trip with 70-80 psi in all tires. I had the dually serviced and inspected a few weeks ago, they inflated the fronts to 80 and rear to 75. It had a little bounce but when I got home could see by the markings on the tires that only approx 70-75% of the rear tire surface was actually on the road. Just my opinion, but that is losing too much traction in heavy rain conditions.

I had dually for towing my 16K 5th wheel. I didn’t mind the rougher ride but parking was always a pain. Last summer I traded my dually for a new GMC Sierra SLT and now have a 7600 pound trailer. Towing is better and I love the SRW truck.

I kept my dually but got a smaller trailer went from a 5th wheel to a bumper pull Winnebago so far so good.

It’s easy to park and deal with a dually and/or long bed. People just aren’t used to them. They generally don’t buy enough truck and then want huge trailers. I personally only buy long beds and wouldn’t have a truck any other way. Higher ratings over standard bed trucks and no worry of slider hitches, etc.

Nice video. That radiant red on the Chevy is just awesome. Anyways, what changes on the GM front suspension is the torsion bars. There’s four different part numbers depending on which axle rating you have. The standard ratings are 4800 (gas), 5200 (gas with HD front springs/camper package), 5600 (standard diesel OR gas with snow plow prep package) and 6000 (diesel with snow plow prep OR HD front springs/camper package). Also JB not everyone likes painted bumpers. I like them just fine, but I also think that dually in that color with the chrome bumpers is just awesome. It’s color dependent for me. White looks better painted. Just lighter colors in general look better painted to me. But bright colors, chrome for the win.

FYI if you are near a Discount Tire they do free rotation and they do it right by taking the tires off the rim.

I've had Standard, Long SRW and a Long DRW. Didn't notice much difference in ride or towing a 37ft 5th wheel and travel trailers. The biggest issue I had with the DRW was lack of car wash. I don't mind hand washing, however during the winter months is a challenge. My next truck will be a F-350 Long Bed with SRW. You don't have to worry about the sliding hitch and get larger fuel tank.

Now that’s a big trailer… most I ever towed was just under 18k so I couldn’t image another 15k on top of that 😅

Some of the misunderstanding is GM's own tv advertisements show a triple axle toy hauler behind a SRW truck. Also when will the RV manufactures start listing the real weights in their specs? My 5th wheel listed specs were no where close to the real weights, this was brand new on the way home by Cat scale. I even wish if the dealers add options, they should be included in the spec. 3 awning slides and 2 AC units add weight. Just changing from 15" China tires to 16" Goodyears added 120 pounds. This stuff adds up quickly.

The dually isn't much wider because they are the same width at the mirrors. It's the length and turning radius that makes them harder to park. I can throw my DRW into most any parking spot I want to. I go through drive thrus all the time also. I originally wanted a SRW, but a DRW came up with everything I was looking for and only cost a little more, so now I can pull anything I want in the future.

The factory mirrors are bigger than than the past. If they made the mirror taller and wider and the mirror housing as wide as a class 8 truck that can see around and along the side of a trailer.. would save a lot of grief because the typical and trailer towing pick-up mirror visibility is lacking..

On the SRW truck, it would probably not be possible to stay under the 30k GCVWR. The trailer would be nearly 20 and the truck at max would be 12 something.

Keep in mind the weight transfer which means over a scale, the trailer would look more like 16000 lbs. + the GVW of truck 👍🏾
