Brazil vs. Colombia: Was the Fight Worth It?
Brazil and Colombia drew 1-1 in the final group-stage match on Tuesday night, with Raphinha scoring a spectacular direct free kick to secure a point for the Selecao. After just 12 minutes of play, the Barcelona winger gave Brazil the lead, but for the next 78 minutes, they were unable to muster any momentum.
Los Cafeteros tied right before the halftime whistle, which told the story. Colombia won the group with a point, while Brazil finished second, and both teams advanced to the next round.
However, the encounter was not without its hiccups. Most crucially, the Selecao will be missing great attacker Vinicius Jr. when they face La Celeste in the quarterfinal. Due to his second yellow card of the group stage, the Real Madrid winger will now serve a suspension.
Midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Joao Gomes were also issued yellow cards in a game with a total of 33 fouls. That being said, it does not always have to be nice, and both parties will feel satisfied with the outcome. Time to turn our attention to the knockouts now.
