This was a good 500. Yeah the ending was… something. But I do have to say, it’s the first time I see actual strategy being in place for the Stage wins. The drivers actually behaved and those last 20 laps before the big one were absolutely nuts. Really liked this edition. If not for the ending, it would’ve been a 10/10. Solid 8.5/10 for me.

The ending was legit not sure what people are crying about, the caution came out as they took the white flag...the race was then over.....that's been the rule for years ever since the green white checker was implemented....

@@truckercowboyed2638 I’m not that experienced with Nascar to determine if the decision was correct or not. But I have the feeling that we were robbed of a chaotic final lap. Only if Ross had a bit more awareness on that block, things would’ve been great.

Yeah it was a great race, really enjoyed the splitting up of the manufacturers and them converging into a massive pack at the end after the last fuel stop. Too bad that ending soured it…

@@truckercowboyed2638 we know the ending was legit, we're just saying that the ending was lackluster when compared to the rest of the race, which was amazing, 3-wide action.

I might not be the only one that has this opinion but I’m just not a fan of the post race interview on the track, I think over the years Daytona Victory lane is so special and has had so many special moments from the victory lane interview, I’m totally fine any other race but it’s the Daytona 500, it just doesn’t feel the same with no interview in victory circle right after the win

4:46 tbf, he did have help from a gibbs car (that being the 11 of denny hamlin) for a while as they worked together to get through the pack. They even went to pit road together. But, later on in the race, when denny got involved in a crash he was never able to get back to kb.

See, as someone who was at the track, I thought the first stage fuel saving was one of the most interesting parts of the race. Being there and being able to see Allmendinger visibily catching the pack on his own was fascinating to me. That's something you miss watching on TV because they aren't going to show the one car running by himself, they're going to show the pack.

Big Hendrick fan so very happy with the result. Texted my friends before the start my 3 picks were Byron, Chastain, and Bell, so pretty damn good picks... The issue is the car is so draggy but stable enough to the point cautions wont happen much and fuel depletes so quickly. So if you get rid of stages you have almost no cautions. If you shorten the stages the final stage is so long of nothing until the final 40 laps of balls to the wall racing. IMO this is the best format you can get with the way the car is.

Good race, not sure how i feel about the stages. The race and commentary seemed great. The massive wreck was wild, the final wreck probably hurt the ending. There was a moment where like 10 Chevy's pitted after the lead pack and got back on the track, and the lead pack before pit stops caught them on the back stretch but soem chevys had tremendous blocks and instead of all chevys getting blown by, they kinda fell into the pack. It was very cool, and no wreck came of it.

I dont get what's bad about the finish Sure it was anticlimactic, but it was fair And wind the clock back to mid 2000s rules, Byron still would've won He was in first at the moment of yellow, and they woulda just run the final lap under yellow He won fair and square

There was great racing that had me standing up and yelling at the TV. I wasn't even in the room for the finish, as there wasn't anything to see. Just the winner doing 75mph across the line. A good or bad finish to a race has nothing to do with what's fair. We're here to see racing and expect to see hard racing for a win across the line.

That fuel strategy was huge. By sitting in the back they burned less fuel so when that last green flag stop came the Chevys could take 5-7 seconds of fuel less then everyone else which kept them in front of the big wreck. This package has come a long ways, mainly from drivers figuring it out but Nascar needs to make some tweaks so drivers dont have to rely on slam drafting to move forward which causes wrecks like the big one at the end

Everyone at FOX does a great job except for the director who is in charge of the camera shots. They have no understanding of what is going on. Camera operators do a good job but they aren’t used properly. Too many bumper cameras when crazy stuff is happening.

I feel like Brad is still in the Penske mindset at plate races. Somehow they always find a way to wipe out, usually taking out a teammate or 2 lol. I'll give the race a 9/10. Definitely one of the better plate races recently, as they're not really my thing. Usually gets kind of boring but strategy and commentating really helped carry the entertainment til the end.

we need to stop letting drivers get away with wrecking the field without repercussions. mistake or not, we should not be anticipating a massive crash, and if you cause one, you should be held accountable for all that equipment you just destroyed. these drivers are professionals, but they’re not being held accountable like a professional.
