Gonna be wild, but there will always be something faster and newer. 2027 iM3 coming out and who knows what BMW has up their sleeve from the M Division and their EV sports cars.

I don't know why you would buy an xDrive M2, the M2 is mainly a fun M car because of it's shorter wheel base, that's why it also comes as a manual, for people that want to have an engaging drive, to swap the RWD for 4WD doesn't seem to fit that role in my opinion

@@lucwijngaard8413I have a 2023 Supra 6MT and I agree with the rear wheel drive opinion. I've never had xdrive so maybe that's why I'd want to switch things up

@@lucwijngaard8413 Because I live in Alaska. Some of us don't live in sunny no snow having places. Lol. Also, Xdrive isn't purely an AWD/4x4 system. It's rear biased. So unless there is slippage, you will be trucking along in rwd until the front wheels need to kick in. Also, while I respect your opinion, they do make the 240 in rwd and xdrive. Same idea as BMW potentially offering the M2 in either configuration. So..?

I work at a bmw dealer. There will be a 2026 x drive version coming out by the end of next year. Excited for them to do a re run with the x drive version.

I figured it would be close but not that close from a roll. You were hitting decent speeds, but the m4 would continue to pull if ran it to higher speeds. Rwd m4 would pull a bit more from a roll too being closer in weight to the m2 and without the drivetrain loss of the xdrive.

Basically the m2s only chance to keep up is on the 40 roll but like a poster below said whether from 0-100 or 120 mph and up theres no chance for the m2. Pretty cool though to see it keep up on the 40 roll.

I think that the m4 comp would destroy it in a roll, due to the fact that it has even less weight and just a little bit less horsepower than the M4CompXdrive

3800 lbs for a M2 is NUTS. My supra was about 3400. And the B58 is beast of a motor

xdrive m4 probably had more drivetrain losss cause its awd so there was not much of a benefit from a roll but damn the rolls were really close

I don't think Xdrive adds any drivetrain loss since it's basically RWD until there is wheel slip. From a 40 roll the front axle is not engaged, its basically the same as a RWD just hauling an extra 90-100 lbs

@ToneNYC718 I don't know maybe, I mean even with the xdrive m4 you can make them fully rwd , still really cool to see the smaller m2 keep up with the m4,it's really close until like 120 plus where the m4 extra hp kicks in.

That is what their intended purpose is, its for people who dont want the big m3/m4 but also want an m car to have fun in, thats why I love it, its the most affordable m car

i can't wait to trade my g87 for an X-drive when it comes out. should time perfectly for when my lease is up. i live in the northeast so i just had to change my wheels for winter and have the sandbags for the trunk ready to go for the snow. pray for me lol

The biggest advantage of the M2 is the shorter wheelbase, therefore the better test would have been to rip them through some super tight twisting turns to see if the M2 can out-handle the M4.

It's not parasitic loss....."parasitic" is used for superchargers because it requires energy from the engine to power the supercharger....

The first dyno runs with the new M2's showed that they tend to put out around 500 hp rather than the 460 on specs sheet. Therefore the rolling result isn't shocking at all. Racing a 4WD vs RWD from the line doesn't make any sense which should be obvious.

What I would expect. I mean it's only 50hp, which is 10% of the car's power. In a 150hp vs 200hp car a 50hp difference would make a huge difference.

Ive done a few 40 rolls on my g87 but i start on 3rd, 2nd i feel is too close to redline

New M2, I have one (manual) and it’s awesome so far. Definitely get the carbon buckets though, one of my favorite parts of the car!

@@InclineDumbbell i should have got the buckets...they are so sick. the only issue i have with the manual is the 1-2 shift. it is really tough to nail and really feels terrible sometimes. any suggestions? about to have 10,000 miles on it today and i still haven't mastered it

@@brelaxed13 If I’m just chillin then I’ll leave the clutch in a little longer but if you’re trying to go faster the best thing is just to rev it out. Some people take out the clutch delay valve which might help slightly but that would be a stupid thing to void my warranty over😂 To be fair I think the 1-2 shift bothers the passengers more than me I don’t really mind

@@InclineDumbbell lol. yeah, my wife hates this car so much. but yeah, it seems like its kind of all or nothing with the 1-2. its fine if you are shifting early at low rpm and just chillin and fine if you are sending it but there is like no middle ground. still love the sht out of it though. enjoy.

I am sure that the gear ratios of these two cars are different. Manufacturers set up gear ratios to optimize acceleration, CO2 emissions, and gas consumption. They also want the sub model of their models (IE M for BMW, S or RS for AUDI, AMG for Merc) to have similar performances and the only distinguishing difference to be utility and track performance.

If the M3 or M4 is a competition, it’s auto only. Standard 6-speed M3/M4 473 hp. Comp is 503 hp. M2 is 453 hp. The M3/M4 has higher turbo boost than the M2. It’s somewhere around 19 psi vs 17 psi.

Parasitic loss doesn't really apply here. The transfer case only engages when there is wheel slip. Otherwise the clutch pack stays parked and, in fact, *significantly* less gear oil (almost none) circulates in this position. There are two gear oil sumps in the tcase. From a roll, it's hardly pulling anything. I'd bet maybe 5-7hp of loss. They did this for fuel economy regulation. My M240i XDrive can get 35+ MPG above 75mph easily.

@@JVette01 The M2 here is yours, no? What values do you typically see on a good launch for acceleration G forces? I can pull 1.1G (that's my absolute record... Usually 1.05G) on a DSC-OFF XDrive launch so there isn't any torque cut. I'm looking to trade up to a G87, just curious how much I'll miss it. 😭

It doesn’t have a super hard launch but the launch control is very good at riding the limit of grip and can still do low 4 high 3 0-60s on the street

sold my g80 xdrive and picked up a g87. BMW is def lying about the g87 hp numbers as the m2 feels basically as fast as the m3. and I slightly prefer the g87 in every single way over the g80.
