The garden is BIG this year and so harvests will often be filmed separate from the tours themselves. In past years I' combined the two but I feel the need to split things up this year! Tomato and pepper harvest/preservation coming soon :)

Also, get yourself some of those wire trashcans from the Dollar tree. You can put them upside down over your seedlings to protect them until they are past the stage where the birds want to eat them.

Heather, Nick with "Growing Back to Eden" YT channel, sells his compost tea. You get it wrapped in the burlap and you "brew" it. If you haven't seen him before, please keep in mind that he has severe lyme disease, also he's very young. He grows market gardens and they are beautiful. Anyways, his teas will fix your soil in the above ground bed that's newer. 😊❤

What a lovely walkthrough! I grew orange cherry tomatoes and orange slicers this year and the biggest tip I can give anyone growing these is to make sure they practically fall off the plant when you go to pick them, because if there is ANY resistance to picking, it's not ripe and the flavor will be lackluster. The first cherry tomatoes I tasted, comparing orange to red, I decided I really did not care for the orange ones at all. About a week later, though, I had a few that fell into my hand while harvesting, and those were a delight! So maybe the yellow ones are similar? The coloration may not be the only indicator of ripeness or developed flavor. Also, the Bonfire Peach trees the coloration and set of the leaves is normal. They MIGHT be a little too moist, but they like moist (not wet) soil consistently. Maybe consider draining some of the water (if feasible) from the reservior or plan to repot (in different kind of pot maybe) in the winter, when the trees are not growing. What's also normal is a few green fruits that start to soften or drop from the tree - you can pick off immature fruits on the same branch so they're at least 5 or 6 inches apart to help the tree choose which ones it will ripen and limit the stress on the plant. Also - my research says Bonfire Peaches are not very good eaten raw, but excel when used to make pies, preserves, or other cooked items. Last thing is airflow - you may want to consider pruning your trees a bit in late winter/early spring (before they bloom) to give the tree better airflow between the branches. Definitely prune any branches that are touching or rubbing against another so you limit the potential for disease or pests to be attracted to damaged bark. Our peach tree supposedly has 5 varieties all grafted onto the same tree, and the long oblong leaves usually cover fruit, which I would think helps protect it from birds and other things that want to pick at it before it's ripe.

@SageandStoneHomestead that is awesome 🩷 I love seeing how much food you grow it amazes me. I can't wait to find a place to rent. The hotel prices are so high because of the summer rates and holidays. We been paying over $ 1,176 a week !! For the last 3 weeks and the rates for this weekend alone is $ 800.00 we stay at the extended stay it has a little kitchen in our room and we also have a dog she is a 3 year old mini Australian Sheppard so they charge like small fee for her plus a $ 60.00 accidental incase she damages the room but she is so friendly and has never once peed or pooped in the house since we got her at 8 weeks old they place we bought her from trained them. I even put pee pads down if we leave more than 8 hours and can't let her outside until we get back and she holds it. But once we find a home or apartment to rent I want to plant a small garden next summer. If we have a apartment we want a deck so I can do a container garden and I love garden tomatoes you can't get that great taste from the store. ❤️❤️

I'm struggling this week but finding to find peace in the chaos. Trying to get things ready for canning and ordered 100 pk of forjars wide lids when I need regular mouth. I do have 20 or so wide mouth jars but I have about 100 regular mouth. I have zucchini coming out of my ears I've been shredding and freezing. Only my Roma tomato's (all have blossom end rot) I have not a single salvageable tomato so far for sauce. I'm on a tight budget and not able to purchase oyster shells so trying to research a home remedy if possible. The Japanese beetles are demolishing my blueberrys. It's been 100 + and unbearable outside except for very early and very late In the day. I'm blessed. I'm 1000 percent blessed with all this stress truly even my mess up ordering 100 of the wrong size lid. Watching your videos and seeing some of your struggles definitely helps me realize it's not just my garden struggling with the intense heat, little rain and weird soil problems I've never expiernced.

I will tell you the first harvest of tomatoes I left out too long and fruit flies got in the cracks and they had to become chicken food. We ALL have this happen, it's definitely not all sunshine and roses, and you are doing a great job. Right now I'm swimming in excess milk and my solution for some of it is pouring it onto the compost pile, giving some of the fresher stuff to the animals. Those are totally valid options for the overwhelm that naturally comes with homesteading. It's a way to easily get a clean slate and recoup energy to do something a little more creative with the harvest when you've got the gumption for it. Many hugs, you got this!!

@@SageandStoneHomestead Some people regard morning glories as bindweed. They are related I guess, but they don't cross pollinate as far as I know. I have had both growing in the same space. Also, I think bindweed is perennial, which makes it even harder to eradicate.

Hey Heather. Are you experiencing fewer than normal blooms on your tomatoes? I am assuming it’s due to the higher than normal heat starting in June and lack of rain we’ve been experiencing here in KY (and many other sounding states). I’m watering but I feel like the plants are battling the heat. They are growing like crazy but putting on few blooms. Second question. Are you having any issues with your tomatillo fruit turning yellow? I’ve grown them for years but this year a lot of my fruit are yellow.
@SageandStoneHomestead

Yes to both. The blooms come but they fall off in the heat. Heatmaster Variety tomatoes have so far preformed the best in the greenhouse!
