Head has expanded their Oblivion line in a big way, thanks to the help of young ripper Cole Richardson. This new 102 shares a new construction with the 116, and sets itself apart from the narrower and softer Oblivion skis.

Great conversation here. Not a ski necessarily in my wheelhouse, but I always learn something during your ski reviews. Perfect viewing while on the exercise bike!

These sound like something I'd really enjoy, not sure the 189 will be long enough for me but I'll definitely try them if I get the opportunity. More fun skis with tips that can be driven hard, please!

I got to Demo the 102s at the Snowbasin Demo day last season, and they were amazing and fun everywhere I took them! Loved the top sheet, as well.

you guys mentioned reactive... my opinion is that it is more about the kind of skier you are/want to be... if you learn on a reactive ski then that is the type of skier you are.. you mentioned the soft snow.. i love my 104 Free on soft snow.. when the top couple of inches are slushy and you have the icy hard underneath they are great... they rattle too much for me when the snow gets hard.. you also mentioned.. catchy.. my DPS Wailer F100s are catchy.. i really have to be forward with them.. even if i am upright i have to watch for the tails to catch..

Damn you guys are absolutely pumping out the reviews. Love it. Could you speak a little bit more on how this skis at the different mount points you tried? At -5 does it let you drive the shovels and/or play with the balance point on the ski or does it ask you to be mostly centered/neutral? I feel like with that long turn radius it might feel more natural to stand up straight on the ski and pivot rather than lean over and carve. Would be interested to hear your thoughts.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Even at -5, it felt like a central, round turn was easily achieved. The further forward you go, the more the tail of the ski comes across the fall line. It's stiff, so it's kind of exaggerated when this happens. Since it's not as park-specific as the 94, we find it to be more appropriate in the rearward positions. But if you're interested in more symmetry in that ski, -2 might be the furthest I'd go.

I ride the M-Free 99 in 179 for my daily drivers out West (I'm a similar buid to Jeff) - I'm new to jibbing and rails but pretty comfortable hitting medium to large jumps on those M-Frees. Just got myself some 177 Oblivion 94s and def. looking forward to giving them a try next season. I got the Obilivions to center mount them and have something that's hopefully a little easier to butter with. Excited to see your guys' review for the Oblivion 116 sometime down the road though. I wonder how it'll compare to the new Unleashed 114
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
We spent some time on the Unleashed 114 this spring and the main takeaway was that it's a lot of ski for the width and profile. I'm guessing that the Oblivion 116 will offer up similar performance, but in a lighter format. Like other Head skis, they will likely be on the stiffer and lighter side, while the Unleashed leans more to the burly side of the spectrum.

Great Review, but Head skies have never been my choice, however I'm sure many skiers will find these skies interesting and matching their style of skiing.

Jeff, please can you reply, I've been asking for month. What is your exact perfect mounting point for Unleashed 98. I'm asking specifically your preference, because I do ski the same way as you. In one video you said +4 from recommended and in another video you mentioned true center or -2 from true center. So what is your final thought on this?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
+3.5 or +4 from recommended is safest. Do you have the skis already? When I'm determining mount point on a ski like this, I'll mark true center and center of camber. It's always important to not be forward from the center of camber, in my opinion. If you have the skis, I would recommend going through that process, as it gives you a better understanding of what you're doing, why you're doing it, what the end result is going to be like, etc. You might mark a spot and it might look wayyyy too far forward for you. I know people often want us to tell them where to mount their skis, but it's often hard for me to really recommend anything that's significantly outside the manufacturer's recommendation, as it becomes extremely subjective at that point. Hope that helps!

How does this ski compare to a Faction Candide 2.0?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Great comparison! Overall, the general shape is very similar, but the Candide feels more substantial from a sturdiness standpoint. The Oblivion is stiff due to the carbon, but that doesn't always translate to stability--that comes more with a heftier ski like the Candide.

Is it just me or does this ski spit out a really long rooster tail? I don’t think I’ve ever seen the follow camera get hit with so much snow before. Love the Jeff and Bob show!
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Some decent splay in the tail for sure! We also had it on a lot of spring days, and that snow is especially prone to being thrown very high in the air.

Please bump up the volume, I can't hear anything using my smartphone. You need to apply volume boost with editing presets and then apply limiter to -0.5 db, this is how you can make sound better. Ask more info from a person that edits your vids. It's pretty easy or just search tutorials in KZfaq.

While it might seem like there's a big team of people behind these, it's mostly just me (Jeff). My voice gets a little wonky sometimes on phone speakers, but I've tried a lot of fixes, and this current audio is as good as I can get without replacing microphones.

how does the 116 flex compared to this 102? @skiessentials
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
They have the same build, so the only thing making the 116 stiffer would be the increase in overall materials. I don't think they've altered the flex pattern in the 116 vs. the 102 like they do with the softer 94.

@@SkiEssentialshow much stiffer is this 102 compared to new arv 100 with poplar core?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 ай бұрын
@@ab-nz2mm The Head is still stiffer. I don't have a percentage for you, but the carbon of the Oblivion still makes it feel more reactive and responsive than the ARV which is still more supple, smooth, and quiet.
