I think Hyundai is nailing it with the i30 sedan - there's a boring (and affordable) one, a fuel-efficient hybrid, a performance step-up like this and of course the performance flagship. If i were in the market, i'd be leaning more toward this than an SUV

The 7sp dry dct is absolutely horrible, Im on my 3rd one now, Hyundai have been fantastic for anything warranty-related, But I'll never buy a vehicle with a dct ever again, If you buy a hyundai with a dct, Make sure you get extended warranty up to 8 years!!

When the first Ford Sierra came out, they called it the jelly mould shape. Over the years this shape has changed a bit. But where it is now has become generic. I picture some company churning out the same mould and selling them to all the manufacturers. You have to get close enough to read the badge before you have a clue what it is. Same as the colour with black accents. One in all in. Everything and everyone is expected to confirm. Individual's need not apply.

That’s probably a bit dramatic for this. Economy cars were much more conservative through the 2000s and 2010s. Hyundai is one of the few automakers with an out-there design for a mainstream category. The German and Japanese car brands continuously pump out Golfs and Civics that barely look more exciting than its predecessor. Remember that this is the same Elantra nameplate that used to be a rental car, they’re going decently for a reasonably priced car. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, some people are saying this car looks too radical and will age less gracefully.

Pretty slow actually compared to its cousin the Cerato GT with the same engine is much quicker.

Good point. About 0.5sec slower than the Cerato GT according to our tests. I think the Cerato has a sharper tune for the DCT, as it seems to shift quicker and it gets off the line a bit quicker. In saying that, this is a bit smoother to drive. In-gear acceleration is pretty much identical as well I reckon.

Cerato does not have the same engine mate. i30 has a newer smartstream 1.6t

About 2.5 seconds slower to 100 than a good launch in an N DCT. That Sucks! I am glad i ordered the real N.

Wishe they were RWD as in the wet the steering push pull is annoying and can be an issue around snowy Tasmania 😊or even better AwD

If it was RWD, you’re looking at less power to the wheels, more weight, less interior space, less economical. AWD just makes this even worse and then saps all of the fun out of it

@@davothegreat9990 Generalistically, sure. This is about a cheap small economy car though. The platform has shown it can easily handle well over 200kW and provide a fun and engaging drive. Moving to RWD or AWD won't provide really any advantages, it will just heap loads of disadvantages per my previous comment.
