I got the quickshifter at the first service and it made the 390 duke ride experience even better. You have to shift a 390 single more then a 800cc size bike. So the quickshifter makes everything that much easier and smoother. Mainly 1st-3rd gear when launching from a stop. But just anytime not having to use the clutch lever is great. Especially on the twisties

I am new into bikes, just about to get my first duke 390 2024, but if I have quickshifter+ can I even move the bike from red light without even using clutch and just go from neutral to first gear or in such case we have to use clutch and just don't have when upshifting and downshifting in movement? Also does quickshifter comes as prebuilt or you have to do the modification in some service shop?
@michaelrieser99282 ай бұрын
I’m in the U.S. , the quickshifter is an add on. Got it at my first service, an app upgrade and clutch tweaks. Now I come from bigger bikes so a 390 single and how shifting is, is new to me. When you leave from a stop light and you are going to go down a road that you can ride at 40mph on average you have to go from 1st-2nd-3rd. So that’s a lot of shifting. A larger bike you only have to get into 2nd. To answer your question, from a stop light you ride normally and once you get going everything is shifted with your foot. Or you can ride regular with your clutch lever. The quickshifter was $250, not bad. You don’t need it, when the bike is new they don’t want you to go past 7500 rpm after the first service you can go to the 9500 rpm area and not have to shift as much. Now on the back roads I’m riding it harder then city driving, say 45-65mph on twisties. So I have to get into that 3rd-4th gear. So from a stop going 1,2,3 is weird and the quickshifter helps, but not necessary because the clutch lever is so light. Great starter bike great fun bike for experience riders, my other bike is a 2007 ktm 990 superduke

@@michaelrieser9928 Oh thank you so much for an explanation! I have another quesiton that is off-topic tho, just came to my mind, as all I do these days is thinking about bikes, riding etc.. If I am driving a bit faster let's say 60/70 kmh/h and some urgency happens and I have to stop right away, is it okay to forget about shifting gears down and just use your front and rear brake as well as holding clutch to safely stop and then shift to 1st gear or neutral? So would it hurt bike if i stop in 4th gear while I hold my clutch and then downshift to 1st or neutral?
@michaelrieser99282 ай бұрын
@@MA-gc2pc in a emergency use your breaks to slow down, pull the clutch lever when you can, even if it’s at the point you stop, it should stay on even in 4th. Slowing down to 0 in 4th will not hurt anything. When you are stopped in 4th with the clutch lever pulled simply kick it down to 1st and start moving when your ready. Don’t stress over the gear windows too much. They over lap and you can be too low or too high of a gear and the bike still runs. It just has its own sweet spots in each gear. You will find those spots right away, and also see that you can be alittle off and everything is fine. But in a quick slowdown or quick stop situation just use your breaks. As you get better you will be able to kick the clutch pedal down to 1st as your slowing , knowing that your going to need to be in first to get going again. But I think in an emergency I’m only focusing on breaking and maybe pulling the clutch in when I fell I’m out of danger any even if I’m at 3-5 mph the engine will not have stalled. Once you pull the clutch lever the bike will not stall no matter what gear you are in. You will get the fell for the transmission fast.

Ok. Here you go, I have had many 1000 cc naked bikes. Currently a used 2007 ktm 990 superduke. I love the torque and power in the ktm motorcycles. Anyway repairs and service on motorcycles can be pricey. My 990 is a 2007, getting older. I wanted a fun ktm, cheaper to purchase and cheaper overall ownership cost. The 2023 390 was on sale $4299 and 2024 390 for $6299. U.S. price. The 2024 had a lot of improvements. Bike has plenty of power, I think it rides like it’s a 500-600 cc bike. Comfortable for 3 hour ride. Freeway plenty of power 0-85 mph. It can do 106mph but power boost slows after 85mph. Im 6 feet, I fit fine, but lower then my 990. They have a 390 adventure coming out very soon. Yes you probably need a wind screen for freeway driving long distances. A 2024 990 is $13000 and a 2024 390 is $6299. You get a lot of bang for your dollar with the 390 duke. Plus the add on parts are less money and the gas is 54mpg. The quickshifter is extra in U.S. but only $250 I would pick this over anything at this price point.

Fantastic video, best on the Duke 390 on YT so far! I am really thinking about getting this, but it´s very prizy in Denmark and you can get other brands cheaper, but oh man the Duke is nice and the 390 is perfect for my needs.. ! --- Can anybody tell me if this bike with windscreen and all the sh¤t i can get for a long drive, would it take me like 1700Km without messing me up or break down? ---! I really need a biike that can do that in thiis sieze. i cannot affor the bigbrothers. Btw. Love the video, all the best
@stephenmagenot9992 ай бұрын
My husband and I bought one recently and it is a bit more than the competition, but with the better brakes and adjustable suspension that are fitted as standard, as well as the overall quality of the switchgear, the 390 worked out to be a good deal. That being said, the factory mirrors are hot garbage lol This is not the bike for a journey of that length however. If my US public school math is right, you’re talking 1100 miles. Even on the chunkiest Harley Road King that distance is gonna wear you out. The bike can handle it, I think you could even get a screen that works, but you’re getting a couple hundred miles outta the stock seat at best before you’ll be looking for surgical butt replacement 😅
@dane48902 ай бұрын
@@stephenmagenot999 Ha ha thank you very much. I thought about upgradng the seat, front windscreen, mirrors and hand protectors from day one + buy a traveling case to mount on the back for my stuff. Does that not sound like a good idea or would you suggest other upgrades?
