Chris, As a long-term GX owner, you are well placed to assess a new one. My favourite feature of the new GX is the generous SIDEWALL on the Overtrail. 😉

@@John.Christopheryou’re right. Everyone talks about how great the new “boxy” design is, but we lose the sharp japanese inspired design of the 460. Sounds like the driving dynamics also aren’t as sharp as the 460.

They did this same kind of built-in dash design for the new GR Yaris. The designers told Carwow it was to improve visibility. Hopefully it becomes a new interior design trend for Toyota.

Great review as always. We had an ‘04 GX470 for 15 years and got rid of it for a ‘19 Wrangler Rubicon which is dealing with the aluminum corrosion issues. Planning on going back to a GX next year.

Recently discovered your channel and really liking it. I especially like that you are accustomed to "luxury" cars as opposed to some other so-called reviewers who own Kia's but are here telling me what luxury is! Really enjoy listening to your real-time analysis as you drive too! Personally, I like the front end on the outgoing GX 460 a lot. It has a most distinctive and ultimately Lexus presence on the road, and I also prefer the outgoing RX grill for the same reason but this is a great looking vehicle front and rear!

14:30 it doesn't feel as tight as the GX460 because the Premium does NOT have e-KDSS... a big Lexus fail, as all previous trims of GX460 had KDSS standard... now only the GX550 OT gets e-kdss... all other trims are likley to experince the floppy body roll you described here ❤

Overpriced garbage. I own a 2014 gx460 and drives like nothing else in it's class. Completely flat in the corners and the v8 is a sleeper. Very refined and reliable. Lexus took a gamble and left off the secret sauce, KDSS. Save your money!

Very strange sound for a V6. Its like they tried to make it sound like a V8 but it ended up sounding like a V8 below 3.5k rpm and then a General Motors V6 above 3.5k rpm

Ergonomics in the controls looks improved overall but the old GX460 seemed to have a more luxurious looking interior, especially comparing a late model one to this. Maybe I’m biased, I have a 2023 GX, but the interior just looks more like a luxury vehicle inside

I can see your point. Lexus is going more on the tevhy side now…I think it’s too techy though because I wouldn’t call this interior luxury even if they used premium materials.

@@Chineywhale agree. But to me, most of the new Lexus interiors no longer differentiate themselves enough from the Toyota siblings. The new Landcruiser looks nearly as good as the new GX inside and is cheaper.

It is surprising that eKDSS is not on all the GX550 trims. It would have been better to at least have the KDSS version from the 460, than nothing at all. Disappointing for those who buy the Premium trim.

Heres the thing though. Regular folks are probably only going to own 1 lexus anyways. The similar interior is only a bit boring if you often drive different models where it takes away some of the charm and differentiation between models. I guess theres pros and cons, but i think its ok having a theme as long as its executed well and helps consistency

I know 10 gears sounds like plenty but remember that 7th gear is the 1:1 ratio of the transmission so there are actually 3 over driven gears which are a blessing for fuel economy and a pretty smart move on the part of lexus considering the amount of low RPM range torque these engines produce. Did you drive the luxury plus model after this one? I'm curious to find out what your driving impression was regarding ride comfort and driving dynamics of the AVS in that model vs no AVS in this one.

Soft ride with Lots of body roll here. No KDSS as a result of the cost cutting-big loss imho. No hvac physical buttons. Screens cheapen everything. Hate the eyesight monitoring system. Would love to see the real world mpg. Would love to see a driving comparison to the GX460 both on and off-road. Shame about the engine V-6 vibration and doesn’t sound particularly refined, which some reviewers noted on other models using this drivetrain. On the positive side it looks good, rides soft and is going to be very good off road and for towing. This will sell very well based on the looks alone. Now curious to see how the LC with the hybrid drives. Best review of the GX550 yet.
