Say hello to the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe. Its throaty exhaust note that burbles from time to time is something one can get used to. But it’s not just the noise, the new GLE 53 has the go to match the show. While this brute gets the same 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol engine that makes 429bhp, the torque has gone up 40Nm to 560Nm, and the engine is paired with an integrated starter generator that gives it a boost of 20bhp and 200Nm. That helps the GLE 53 Coupe accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in a claimed 5 seconds flat, a good 0.3 seconds quicker than before. The other updates on the GLE 53 include new bumpers, an AMG logo on the hood, new adaptive multibeam LED headlights, and a new set of tail lights. On the inside, the new AMG steering wheel and AC vents borrowed from the GLS are new additions. Do these updates make the GLE 53 Coupe a better car than before? Rohin Lalwani finds out in this first drive review.
