I am a die-hard pro Mercedes. Class A 2015, then C63 AMG 2014, then GLE 63S 2019 The square, robust, massive Mercedes design that I love so much, and which reminds me of classic cars like the SEC, the SL, the ML and the fabulous 500E W124 Mercedes for me, it's straight, square lines, carved in marble which gives this feeling of aggressiveness and security which has always amazed me, not to mention the devilish noise which makes you recognize that it is a Mercedes with palpitations from the heart. Currently I'm thinking about changing my 2019 GLE 63S, which for me is timeless, and buying the new generation GLE 63S or the X5 competition. While testing the new generation Mercedes, that's when I understood that Mercedes had lost its DNA. I no longer recognize myself in the design, in the sound, which for me characterized the best of the automobile. Too many screens, too much fuss, it looks like a discotheque, all this with an atrophied and castrated noise!! Today, the new models have lost their splendor compared of the past. Round lines, feminine curves, nothing to do with the masculine curves that I like so much. Mercedes seeks to please everyone. The old Mercedes, the real one, created passion and magnetically attracted the desire to have one, notably through the wonderful sound. Today I felt this attraction again when i tried the last BMW. The latest X5 reminds me of this Mercedes with its straight, frank lines, this bestiality that I like. And for the first time in my life, I think I'm going to choose BMW instead of Mercedes. The new Mercedes team in recent years has distorted its heritage. It has taken a turn that does not respect the origins of the brand and even less the true enthusiasts that it has attracted for so many years. Fire me these shitty designers and bring back these angels who gave us so much love for the star and I will do the same.

How did Mercedes manage to ruin the sound of this car so much? I guess regulations are to blame but 5 years ago I would not have said that the Q8s V8 sounds better than the Gles. But somehow here we are in 2024. I suppose the only consolation is that they did not put a 4 cylinder into this as well Edit: This car is a whole second slower 100-200 than the 2020 GLE, RSQ8 and the 2023 X5M Comp. Something aint right Mercedes

True, something is definitely not right in the engines and exhaust engineering department at Mercedes. I mean it’s almost like if they put all their budget do develop overpowered 4 cyl pot and just some minor changes to their l6 and v8.

People not seem undestand. That even mercedes AMG has been always V8 and nice sound etc. but its 2024, its still luxury car, they dont want anymore make them roar like good old times 6.2 C63 etc.... These people who buy these cars, want fast, luxury cars. They buy them, and are happy. they dont care. But there is small % who want them be louder, they will use money for it....

Any clue why they started making these temu exhausts like that? Such an expensive car you would imagine they could just make them normally. Not some plastic holes. Every MB has it these days. It's awful.

From my observations, it's all down to safety reasons, especially when you are hit from behind.

I've been told it's for insurance reasons. If you have a rear collision with these fake plastic bumper inserts, now you hopefully only have to replace the rear bumper because the real exhaust is recessed quite far back and so doesn't get hit. In the past if you had a rear collision you had to replace either the rear section of the exhaust system or even the full exhaust system. So it saves money for insurance companies. Though again, that's only what I've been told, by an MB sales and insurance manager for Western-Europe. No idea if it's true but it does sound logical, though a bit shady. I fully agree that it's awful, yeah. If you're standing right behind the car, you can see the ground through these holes, it's ridiculous. BMW is doing it too by the way. I have a 2022 BMW M340i and that's the only thing I really dislike about the car, it has these plastic exhaust surrounds while the "lower" versions of the 3-series get proper, round exhaust tips without this fake plastic nonsense

Do people who put that much money in a car don't care about the amount of plastic that's on it? And im not even talking about those exhaust tips. Maybe im exagerating i've never been in one in person but so far i struggle to see what justifys the price tag it's not a GLA it's a GLE supposed to be and feel premium. Maybe it's just me.
