TLDR; OK, this rocked. So the question I get asked the most is, "which is better, the Tykon or the Makai?" You can insert any boat names in there, like "Makai or SE" as well. The first is the one that is coming hard and fast right now. I can't just answer that yes or no. Here is what I can tell you. The Tykon like the Max, easily makes a great wave that is super fun to surf on with 600 lbs of lead like we showed. It's fine stock as well, but that 600 lbs makes it sing. The Makai makes the same great wave, same push, hook, length, so that you really don't see much of a difference. However, the Makai wave is cleaner and a bit more forgiving with the Flow 3 system. The Makai with the 550 can take even more weight if you want, but 1000 lbs was that magic number for us. That makes sense, the Makai is about 500 lbs lighter from the factory as far as weight + ballast. I will go into more detail in my longer review for sure, but the short answer is, get the Tykon with Flow 3 and the wave will be as clean and you can do it with less lead, OR, just get the extra lead with the Makai and enjoy the extra amenities. I personally, am not sure which I would do with my money, I am on the fence. I really have gotten spoiled with thrusters, this Makai had them. I LOVE the Makai second screen, it's really great. That huge bimini and power tower, oh year, that's a winner. That in and of itself would make me choose the Makai if I ever road trip or trailer my boat far. Once you cover your tower and tow, you can't go back.
Sorry for the indecisiveness, but I hope that helps you understand our thoughts, and helps you make a better decision. :-)
