Yes, that big lake is Owens Lake. It's fed by the Owens River, and the valley is Owens Valley between the Sierra and the Inyos and the Whites on the far side of the valley. The Owens Valley is the deepest valley in North America. Used to have family there. Spent a lot of my childhood in that valley and along the Eastern Escarpment of the Sierra. That view of the Owens Valley is one of the best views on the PCT.

I have fireballs in my life. Love them dearly. Hope you Remember why you’re where you are and stay focused. Alonso, I think I have the same pants that hammer has.

I think that lake is what is typically known as Owens Dry Lake. It wasn't dry until Los Angeles diverted a bunch of the water that flowed into it via the Los Angeles Aquaduct (what you walked along in the Mojave), but the last couple of wet years have made it significantly more lake-like.

The advantage (to me) of the Sierra are the open spaces under the trees and long range views compared to the dense underbrush and claustrophobic feeling I get in east coasts forest. 😀

Thanks for clarification Chaps. Fireball has unlimited Garmen plan, with wedding chaser drama package for if, where n when it happens. Its all good we root for her...to finish the pct. Too bad she doesnt youtube, so she can vent to us. Less on chaps, hammer and RR. Yeah we know.

Wow, really getting into the wilderness now. It's hard to believe there's so little snow in the Sierra at 11,000', we've got multiple feet of snow at the same elevation on Mt Hood today, latitude makes the attitude, haha. Don't worry about losing your acclimation on a zero day, it's mostly based on your red blood cell count for carrying oxygen. A night or two at elevation causes your body to add red blood cells over the next week or so and you don't shed them quicker than that.

With all due respect, your friend fireball seems a little erratic. I hope she doesn’t cause you guys any danger in the midst of the Sierras. I know you guys are experienced hikers, but she seems a little manic so please be careful.

Have you notice those bird calls at 3:41- 3:48 are the same bird calls that have been following you since San Jacinto? I noticed them following me all the way till northern California in 2021. Notice them in all of PCT vloggers since. Still haven't figure out which birds make those calls.
