I love my poppy tee and started a second one that I'm adding long sleeves too. Your spinning will get thinner until you find your default yarn. That will be the yarn you spin without trying. Your plying will even out as your spinning does so don't take it heart. The more even your singles become the more even your plying will get. If you look at thick and thin machine processed yarns you will see the same thing.

I’m loving your new sweater design and look forward to knitting it.🎉 On the spinning, you always want extra twist because washing balances it out and you end up with a balanced skein. One thing you can do is stop periodically when plying and make sure the plyed yarn twist nicely on its self. Also you can run plyed yarn back through your wheel and add more twist. I would do that with the orange skein. When I was using a niddy noddy I would use the unwashed yardage as an estimate and when I want that yarn for a project I measure yardage while caking it up. Although there are people who do what you said and niddy noddy twice. Also as you pull out all your goodies to go in your craft room you might find you have even more than you realized and may want to keep your office in your bedroom.

Nice spinning! :D Re. measuring lenght and yarn weight: I usually count wraps when using the niddy noddy (before wash). After the yarn is washed and dry, I lay it flat and relaxed, and measure the circumference. I multiply and have the lenght. I then use Tiny Fibre Studio's grist calculator. If your skein is 95 grams and 160 yards, it's probably Aran weight :) I think it's more accurate this way compared to measuring WPIs. Hope this helps :D

1. For counting your yardage, Dreaming Robots makes a yarn counter. It’s about $70. I checked; it’s in stock. 2. For plying, the key is to get into a consistent rhythm with your hand movements so eventually your plying will be even. If you want more twist in your ply, run it through your wheel again. If you want less, run it the opposite direction. 3. The Internet isn’t entirely correct on wraps per inch converted to yarn weight. Ravelry is especially wrong. I go by the Camaj Fiber Arts tool. Editing to add: there’s a fantastic class on Craftsy called “Ply to Knit: Spin the Yarn You Want” and it’s fantastic. All the Craftsy spinning classes are good but that’s one of the first ones I watched.

Love your design for the California Sweater. Your comment about length and Petite Knits: I feel that in any pattern, I’m going to make sure it’s a length I want. Every pattern is a different design: I don’t think it’s “inconsistent” that on some PK patterns, you shorten and others you lengthen. That’s just the nature of different designs even within one designer. Love your podcast!

Hey Leslie, love your basic California sweater! The color is stunning and looks great on you! You are really in touch with your best colors! I listened to your comments about petit knit patterns not being consistent with regards to sizing. The thought that crossed my mind is they have different styles and maybe what the designer is trying to accomplish is to provide multiple style patterns for varying body styles and offering them to a wide audience. The great thing you do is adapt the patterns you choose to the sizing that you feel comfortable in and that encourages your audience to make modifications to patterns so they can grow in their knitting skill level.
