Volvo is well on their way to making the transition to an all-electric brand, but their sister-brand Polestar is already there. Now, we’ve spent lots of time in their all-wheel drive, five-door Polestar 2, having tested it in 2021, and a year later when a two-wheel drive version arrived. But, EV updates are coming quickly. So, let us be your guide for all that’s new with the #Polestar2. #Volvo #Polestar

Was meant to be a Volvo s40 sedan, the sister sedan to the XC40. Volvo didn't use the body so Volvo's sports division, Polestar, spun off into its own company, used it. It's an old chassis but Polestar has done a good job of it. For the age of the chassis and that it isn't a ground-up BEV, it doesn't pretty well. I just find people don't know what Polestar is. There have been Polestar tuned Volvos for 15 plus years in the form of the s60 Polestar and XC60 Polestar. They had the same adjustable Ohlins shocks, Brembo brakes and even gold seatbelts and brake calipers that the Polestar 2 performance version has. Polestar builds fine cars because they're Volvos. They're not some "Chinese startup" created by "Geely" like some people think. First, ZGH (Geely Holding) owns most of Volvo and Polestar, not Geely Auto. Second, Volvo spun off Polestar so the development of the car and lots of its sourcing is pure Volvo. All but the Polestar 4 are Volvo based. The Polestar 3 is a Polestar engineered and designed Volvo and the 5 and 6 will have even more tuning from ex-Lotus engineers but Polestar has developed an aluminum bonded platform for it. The Polestar 4 is based on the Zeekr001 and that's a joint Swedish-Chinese venture. So whoever calls this Polestar 2 "Chinese" is mistaken. Yes, it is built there in a Chinese plant but it is Swedish engineered, crash tested, tuned, designed, and spec'd and the development of it comes out of Gothenburg, Sweden. Polestar is a Swedish company with a Chinese parent company. This is a European car.

Small tweaks but feels like a big improvement. Pretty incredible that with EV architecture they can easily turn a FWD car into a RWD one! And the kind of odd proportions of the sedan-on-stilts look may have been ahead of its time, looks good now sharing the road with Toyota Crowns etc. Always great to see you, Mr Davis - a decades long fan.

If not, Volvo has some work to do to get them certified.

I test drove a 2024 the other day...I really wanted to like it but I had ergonomic issues. My right knee hurt when resting upon the center console...is was mostly due to the design having a sharp indent. My left knee rested against the mesh on the door insert and felt like sandpaper. I couldn't pull the armrest up far enough (with a drink in the single cupholder) to comfortably rest my shoulder. I'm 6'0 and 185lbs. I just couldn't get comfortable. The test car also had a busted armrest - I understand it's an abused test car but that really shouldn't be the case on a brand new car.

I figure EVs are inevitable. You’ll still be able to drive gas cars in the future but they’ll become more and more expensive to fuel and maintain as gas stations and repair shops go out of business. As an EV driver myself, driving around town seems superior the the 4cyl vehicle I had previously. It’s smooth, quiet and powerful. Charging is a breeze at home. The only pain points I see is that road tripping is slightly more difficult but that will change with charging stations being added. Rental properties will have to add more chargers than present or they’ll be forced to accept lower rent. My 2 cents.

PlaySkool has better build quality than Tesla. I dont understand range anxiety.. Most ICE vehicle get around 300 miles per tank (since very few are sedans) some more some less. Unless youre planning a road trip 240-300 miles should be fine. most BEVs come with nav that tells you where charge stations are (if they work) so plan your route accordingly. We have a 20 T8 Polestar S60 pHEV which I still think is better than a full BEV.. opinion only, at least until battery tech (range charging cold operation etc) and infrastructure (charging stations and NOT BURNING COAL for electricity) can catch up to car tech... Nice vehicle though.

I drove the Polestar as a rental in Jan of 2024. The interface was slow and buggy, several warning lights came on and the high center console made finding a comfortable driving position difficult. I’m not sure who tested these, but everyone I let sit in the car said the same things. For a review to leave these obvious observations out is an injustice. Volvo transitioning to all EV will be the end of them. Their ICE customers (such as myself) are walking away from Volvo as they have made no material updates on the ICE cars since 2017/2018. We just turned in our 2nd XC60 and we chose to walk away due to their lack of investment in the ICE lineup. The Volvo EV lineup is not strong and the EV movement in the US is no-go for a quick transition. Volvo needs to pivot quick if they are to remain relevant as a US automotive player.

visit Quebec where it reaches -20F in Winter, EVs are bountiful and plentiful in the province where Electricity rates thanks to QuebecHydro are 7 cents kwh, working out to about $11 for 300 miles of driving. No one is whining about range, and guess what we all charge OVERNIGHT at our homes. No need to stop at gas stations.

I drive more than 30,000km a year and save time charging my EV than I did getting gas. People just don't seem to understand basic math of ownership.

EVs don’t have the problems in extreme cold that gas cars do needing a tow due to dead 12 volt battery, a past problem in Norway where there’s the highest concentration of EVs in the world

Did you not hear the specs? It gets over 300 miles on an be charge. I don’t know the last road trip you’ve taken, especially with woman and kids. You’re not driving non stop my friend. You’ve gotta stop somewhere to eat and use the bathroom. The average person stops every few hours for something,

Piece of junk. If you want a decently priced ev get a model 3 and that's coming from a tsla bear.

hmm, the EPA said the range is over 300 miles on the RWD version. So I guess you are WRONG.

Even if that's the case, how often do you drive more than 200 miles / 320 kilometers in a single day?

@@IchibodDeereit’s not uncommon for us to put close to 200 miles a day on our cars and trucks in the insulting business. EV’s couldn’t dream of pulling our spray foam trailers either.

What makes it "crap" and "garbage"? Is the build quality crap? Braking? Sound insulation? Crashworthiness? Seat comfort? Materials sustainability? You don't have to like EVs but to say they are garbage is baseless. Every drive a Polestar?
