With a new model coming in the spring, it may seem best to hold out on the 2024 Subaru Forester, but that's not entirely the case. Today I'll show you what makes the current forester a standout amongst cars like the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue AND its own successor!
Thank you, Royal on the Eastside, for letting me test drive various Foresters over the years to make this video possible.

Ordered a 2024 Premium Forester some 4 weeks ago. Delivery time is 8-10 weeks. Dealer did not have in stock (nor one in their pipeline) as I wanted Ice Silver Metallic. I'm age 71 and do not care for the touchscreen, rather prefer physical buttons. Really like the outward visibility.

You'll love it. I have '21 Sport and the ergonomics of the interior are perfect. Functional tech that lets you keep your eyes on the road. I don't understand why safety-focused Subaru is installing that abomination of a touchscreen on all models.

I am puzzled with the addition of the touchscreen also. AT age 71 I do not need to be fumbling with the touchscreen while driving. I was just notified Monday my Forester Premium is scheduled for delivery either late this week or next week. I'm really looking forward to receiving it.

Congratulations on your new vehicle. At 68 I feel similar to you on the upcoming new screen. The layout of the infotainment and environmental controls on the 2024 appear integrated into the vehicle and not an afterthought. I just dislike that tablet sticking out of the dash look on other manufacturers vehicles. I just put a down payment on a Touring addition yesterday and will take delivery either end of the week or first week of the New Year. After nearly 35 years of driving a cargo work van I wanted to enjoy a few extra options as this is my retirement vehicle. Like you I am happy I went with the 2024 Forester.

I believe you will enjoy your 2024 Forester. I have had mine now a couple weeks and am amazed each time I drive it. I traded in a 2017 Toyota RAV4. Just the outward visibility I now have is so much better than the RAV4. Quiet vehicle.....good ride....comfortable. The Blind Spot Warning is something I never had before that greatly improves safety. I have the Premium trim Forester with a few added options. Best vehicle I have owned, as in the past I would only purchase the base level trim in any vehicle. Checked the gas mileage yesterday...averaging 29.6 mpg and this is largely short trips..

One thing to consider.... I bought one of the last 2023 Subaru Crosstreks. [A 6 speed] The 'generation' of the Crosstrek that I bought has been made since 2018 so no problems are expected. And none have shown up. The all-new 2024 Crosstrek has had a few problems. But that's how it is with any all-new model. I would expect that the all-new 2025 Forester to have some problems too. Where as the 2024 Forester should prove to be problem free.

This young man continues to impress with every review. His attention to detail is obvious. But importantly, he is able to keep his reviews interesting, without fluff that makes me sign off other reviewers. Nevertheless, if you like to drive cars, then you want enough acceleration for the occasional sporty merge, or to be able to pass on a two lane without worrying about oncoming traffic. I would have liked there to be a Forester with more power, and the comment below about the 2015 ST is supportive of this view. Of course sportiness with a turbo will come with worse gas mileage and more expensive upkeep; but it would make for a better daily driver....if you enjoy daily driving. The issues of the windshield cracking really bothers me, and I am repeating what the Car Wizard has mentioned, that calibrating "Eye Sight" has not been an easy task, though I think Eye Sight as a safety measure is awesome. I continue to follow his videos because of their consistent excellence, and every time I watch one, I want to go out and buy a Subaru. SUBARU, are you listening? Maybe this guy should be doing commercials for you.

Thank you! Maybe a Toyota hybrid system (maybe from the venza with 240 hp) could make its way into the upcoming hybrid forester since they probably won’t go turbo against. @@Realistick I have a 2019 Outback. I only have 25,000 miles and in great shape. I always had a thing for buying new cars. I test drove the 24 outback XT. Road very nice but many reviews the people raved about it. Some said stay away from the Turbo. They make the engine very hot and in time you can have problems. They also mentioned Turbo lag. I like the looks of the Forrester and I am going to test drive it tomorrow. I would get the XT. Before I bought my Outback I read all reviews. Many said they loved the car and some complained about the 4 cylinder having no pep. Go with the v6. Well, I bought the 4 cyl. and what pep that car has. Hi. As a Subaru fan from Europe I can see great attention to detail and understanding of the issues tackled. We have a very limited range of engines and versions available in Europe (e.g. Forester and Crosstrek are sold only with a 2.0 L mild-hybrid engine which sucks in terms of acceleration) due to a small number of units sold by Subaru in Europe plus the outrageous exhaust norms applied in the EU market. And Subarus are way pricier in Europe, starting at about 40% higher price than US.

Like everything else out there in the segment, there are trade-offs. I've driven both the '24 Forester (with the knobs) and the '24 Outback with the giant touch screen and no knobs. Context: Looking for a replacement for my '14 Forester XT. I'm a big fan of the giant knobs for HVAC and audio system. I was not a fan of the tiny controls on the new screen, and having to not only find the tiny buttons, but toggle the fan speed and temperature up by repeatedly pushing the buttons. (No wonder we need lane keeping and auto braking. Everyone is busy trying to find the damn tiny buttons!) The '24 Forester has a "sport" mode, and it can be activated via a button on the steering wheel. On the giant screen on the Outback, the sport mode is two screens deep. Hardly convenient. And for all the ballyhoo about the '25 Forester, they soldier on with the same drivetrain that I could have gotten in 2014. They are falling behind. The 2.5 L provides what I'd call "adequate" power, but nothing extra. In the heavier Outback, it is "lacking". Too bad they don't flavor the vehicles a bit more to the trim level. My XT came with bigger wheels and tires (18") than the 2.5 drive train, as well as bigger brakes and a more sport tuned suspension. Why can't the "Sport" have a tuned suspension? In the Outback XT, IMO, they whiffed. Only the drivetrain is different. No upgrades to suspension or brakes to go along with the extra power. The extra HP gained via the 2.4 turbo (vs my 2.0 L turbo) is more than defeated by the extra weight of the Outback. The Forester felt more nimble than any Outback I drove (all on same day), with perhaps the exception of the Forester Wilderness, which felt a bit more sluggish in steering. Hoping the hybrid brings some extra power. The Mazda cousins (CX-5, CX-50) are running on older drivetrains too. Still using a 6-speed automatic, and it's not that quick to shift or smooth. The CX-5's back seat has horrible leg room and is difficult to climb into. The CX-50 offers more. With back seat folded down, neither Mazda comes close to the volume of the Forester (or Outback). The CRV is cavernous too, but if you get the hybrid, towing drops to 1,000 lbs and there is NO spare tire.(They had to use the space for the hybrid hardware). Kudos to Subaru for the adaptive headlights (turn with steering inputs) and fog lights. Some of these so called "SUV's" no longer offer fog lights (Mazda, Honda). Honda has little rectangular trim where fog lights SHOULD be, but they are just color accents.

@scottanthony3426, I see what you mean with the 24 Outback touchscreen. I think it could be a little dangerous to with everything on the touch pad. I didn't know the 24 outback has a sport mode. I have a 2019 outback and it doesn't have a sport mode I don't think. I did test drive the 24 outback yesterday and i found it rode a little better than my 2019. I also like the looks of the 24 Forrester. Some say Turbos heat up and put a strain on the engine, and of course don't get as good gas milage as the regular engine. Many said don't get the outback in a 4 cylinder. Get the V6. I got the 4 cylinder in 2019 and that engine has more than adequate pep. That car moves and I am not a fast driver.

Yes, the 25 Forester looks like the current Honda CRV (yawn). Might be worth it getting one of the last 2024 models. I'm sure they will raise the price on the 2025 Forester just like what happened to the CRV in 2023.

If you can pick up a 2023/24 at great price I'd say buy one. The only caveat would be resale value after the the launch of the 2025 model. Unless of course you want a hybrid.
@Realistick

Valid! Though I might add, resale drop affects other brands much more than Subarus, my parents got 21,900 for their 2021 crosstrek with 50k miles that was 28k new when they were upgrading to the 2024 model. Their car may have been worth a little more before the redesign but a small hit nonetheless!

No turbo no care. We have a 2018 XT Touring and haven’t seen a Forester worth trading for, hoping the new one gets the turbo. The current Gen is way too slow.

I love everything about the 2025 but the infotainment system. I hate the large touchscreen. Honestly the same layout as the last model but an updated system that offered wireless android auto and Apple car play would have been all I needed. I want buttons not a screen to control things while driving. That darn screen is stopping me from wanting any of their lineup that got that dreaded slab. They offer the tiny screens to but it just looks ugly having a flat surface with 2 screens and no perks of better audio.

I just picked up my ‘24 Forester last a week ago today. Base model with the optional wheels and roof rack. Plus I toyed mine up a bit with options. Sure, for what I paid for it on the final price, I could have went premium. But I didn’t want the moonroof and I’m not a big fan of push button start keyless entry. Mine was built to order with simplicity, practically, with a bit of light to moderate off-roading in mind. I highly recommend this years model before the ‘25. But hey, it the ‘25 has what you want looks wise and I guess different steering, if that’s your jam then go for it. But this model year does more that what I was expecting and then some. Couldn’t be happier. Just a side note.. If you order one to your likes and specification or buy one from the dealer that they ordered, just keep in mind that ALL ‘24 Foresters DO NOT OFFER A CD PLAYER as standard anymore. And in under the assumption that will carry over to the ‘25 model year as well.

we purchased the 2024 Forester Base, This car gets no where near the stickered MPG! If anybody knows of a class action litigation, let me know as we would like to join! anybody else have this problem?
@Realistick
@Realistick 6 ай бұрын
First I've heard of that, I'd contact subaru corporate if the dealer won't help! A class action only works if a lot of other people report it and I've only heard complaints with the turbo models regarding mpgs. Also, it could very well be driving habits (short trips where the engine isn't warmed up for half the drive, highway cruising at 75 mph or more, etc.)
@surplusdoctor
@surplusdoctor 6 ай бұрын
The best the car has gotten is 20.3 MPG 1 time. Average is 18 to 19 MPG, the car has only seen the freeway 1 time, that was when we drove it home, where it is now a yard ornament. we do not like the car because of that start stop bull cr*p, install the start stop delete voids the warrantee, so it sits by our choice. . @@Realistick

@@surplusdoctor Your comment is completely fabricated. I have a 2023 Forester Wilderness which isn't quite as good on mpg as other Forester trims and I'm averaging 24 mpg in the dead of winter, with sub zero temps. Also, you can turn auto start stop off. There is a button to do this. So what are you even talking about? Stop making up stories. No one buys a vehicle to sit in the driveway. Clearly trolling for attention and fooling NO ONE.

Not sure, but they all look identical to each other, cross track, Impreza, etc., why do they even have different names? Besides, the RS on Subaru is overrated and doesn't have enough umph as presented. Same with GR series on Toyota.

This suv is one of the most disappointed car/suv we have. For the price they sold you can get a Lexus. On a limited trim only driver side seat has power adjustment. Under power and whinny noise struggle to accelerate when needed. There is no option to get better engine. The annoying start/stop feature that you have to turn off manually everytime after you started a car otherwise this crap will stop in middle of the long city traffic light. Imagining this ruining or shortening life of starter motor and battery. Try driving with start/stop that on the Michigan Street in Chicago it will drive you mad. To fill the gas you have to unlock all doors since there is no machanical lever. Imagine you are in the bad neighborhood and an attacker will jump in your can when all doors are unlocked. May not be an issue in Japan but in Chicago you are asking for a car jack. Stay way from this car since you will get better bang for your buck elsewhere.
