After a successful Day 1 of the 2024 Titans of Tallington, we move on to Day 2 of the event, and after track grading had been done before the start of day 2, the track was in A1 condition. The 250cc Solo's were first out, and the very talented youngster Charlie Wood was out to prove a point, up against him was the fast starting Tim Grieg, but there was no holding on to Charlie in his first ride, so would this be the start to the 2024 season that Wood wanted? Well former British Champion, and now edging towards the veteran stage in his racing career was David Knowles, and he was absolutely flying in practice, so it would be an interesting clash later in the day between these 2 riders at different stages of their racing careers. Also in with a shout would be another veteran in the shape of Ricky Scarboro, back after his dreadful spill in the end of season meeting at this venue.
A very close 350cc Solo class would see Dave Mears, Luke Harris, Jamie Fenn-Smith (With his spectacular leg trailing style), Will Thurlby, Steve Garside, Wayne Broadhurst, and John Cox, all in the mix to take the 350cc crown. A small entry in the 500cc Solo's, but it looked like a battle between 2 very quick riders, in the form of Chad Wirtzfeld and Paul Cooper.
Paul Cooper was also having a go on the bars in the 1000cc RH Sidecars with Terry Madley as passenger, and it would certainly be of interest to see how he would go up against the likes of Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth, Matt Fumarola/Andi Wilson, and Colin Blackbourn/Martin Bailey, and Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, all of whom looked very fast in practice, but the big question would be, would Cossar/Blyth continue where they left of in 2023?
The LH Sidecars looked like it might be a Penfold benefit, with Josh Penfold/Dan Woodbridge, Tommy Penfold/Will Naden, Billy Penfold/Warren Atkinson, and out on a totally brand new outfit for 2024 Will Penfold/Freddie Wood. The crew that might spoil the Penfold party had to be Danny Hill/Callum Ray. With a small entry in the Quads and 500cc Sidecars, the only other class was the Upright Solo's, and with this looked wide open, with no Tim Curnock from day 1, it could be anyone's. John Priest, Shaun Bickley, Scott Ryan, and Alan Brook looked to fight out a tight class.
Some great racing throughout the day, even when the rain came later on to try and spoil a good day.

Yes it is the same family of Penfolds, and still Sons racing against Fathers, Brothers, and Cousins. They are all related to Penfold's from the 60/70's. Tom, Ernie, Bob, John, and Dave. I was there as well all those years ago.

@@steveharman8907 No, the 77 outfit was John Mills i believe, riding his Pink Lady outfit, and the dark green outfit could have been Vic Highland who use to give me and my brothers a lift on his bike back to his van. the Penfolds rode 125 Ernie, 2 John, 124 Jim, and Dave took 123 but he was a bit later.

@@BOB231158 Of course you are correct Bob...I remember all those facts now....and malcom simmonds as a solo....was he 30 or 33.?...and went on to do speedway....the man I knew was Jim 842 with Steve Fagg as passenger had a Vincent engined outfit and then his son Steve took the chair and got pulled off one race and busted his arm ...he is now aged 68.

@@steveharman8907 Malcolm Simmons did indeed ride number 30, and made a comeback at 50 years old to Grasstrack. Sadly we lost Jim Kinchin in a crash, and later his brother Ben.
