They know exactly who the competitors are. They benchmarked the S4 and C43 AMG when developing the TLX Type S. Granted the TLX still isn’t competitive performance-wise, but they do know the competitors.

@@tommy13965 ? 2024 HYBRID Corolla = $24,500. In 2016 the Corolla (no hybrid available) cost almost $20,000. That's a $5,000 increase and jump to Hybrid over 6 years. The Acura TLX has two and a half (almost three) times that rate of increase and remains a 4 cylinder. I take the point that all cars are expensive but this goes beyond sticker shock. Acura used to represent value, luxury and longevity. Now it's performance and luxury. They aren't doing performance well and we will see how those turbo 2's hold out. Acura even had the NSX hybrid powertrain they could have adapted to their other models. (Again, the RLX.) I'm just going to wait for the gen after this one if I like the tech. and aesthetics.

@@GordonPotter I was just referencing how high prices are for even economy cars these days it’s just not the Acura tlx. They are different segments for different buyers if you want nice amenities you will have to pay up today due to the rising cost of parts and labor. Take a look at Lexus even they are moving toward all turbo 4 cylinder engines. I purchase the nx 200 in 2016 for 43 after discounts now it has msrp of 57k. I also purchase the is350awd back in 2014 when they first came out msrp was 45k now it is 57k. So it’s not just Acura but every premium to luxury car manufacturer has gone up.

Second this. Last model year they had the MDX and RLX hybrids but they discontinued the drive train. While manufacturers are adopting hybrids, Acura discontinues it and buys an EV from General Motors. Honda is secretly conflicted about electrification. Lexus jumped in the deep end and have flourished. Hell BMW and Mercedes all offer a mild hybrid. I was so close to buying a RLX hybrid new but it was just too expensive at $47k (end of 2020) but thought it was too expensive. of course now that middle of the road sedans cost $50k that would not have been a bad deal.
