Roglic, Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, Rodriguez, Ayuso, Yates, Kuss, Jorgenson, Bilbao, Buitrago, Gall, Hindley, Vlasov, G. Martin, Carapaz, Powless, Gaudu, Pidcock, Bernal, De Plus, Meintjes, Landa, Bardet, other Yates, Almeida, Gee, Harper, Riccitello ? etc etc etc etc.... The battle for a top ten GC finish in Nice is gonna be epic.... We will ride from Belgium to Italy next Wednesday to witness the Grand depart on Saturday, it will be only the fifth Tour de France we will follow from start to finish with the mobilhome... Normally we do the Giro (16x) or Vuelta (9x), but this year we planned to do the Tour because my wife is a huge Evenepoel fan and I am a huge Roglic fan.... We love and respect all riders of course and we support them all, since it is our humble opinion that they are all heroes... Yes even the riders who can barely make the time cut... they are maybe the riders who we support the hardest... The latest works have been done on our mobilhome, and we should now have a perfect internet connection no matter where we are in Italy or France... (To not miss any race analyses from our old hero Chris of course 🥰). We also installed an extra big tv screen, to watch back the full race once all the riders have finished.... Although we have done many Grand Tours together, my dear women and I have never been hyped so much as for this edition.... Next to the Tour de France it self, it is so nice to meet all our other cyclingfriends from all over the world again... People who have never done this before, should absolutely do this at least one time in their life. The vibes you get when you are waiting for the riders to arrive on a mountainpass is something I can not describe in words.... You and hundreds or thousands of other people are all celebrating, and it does not matter if you are from Colombia, the US, France, Italy, Russia, Australia... nationalities are of zero importance, it is all about celebrating the sport and heroes we all love.. On top of that you do get the chance to meet so many wonderfull people... It is a part of the Tour de France or other races that is not discussed much, but fans from all over the world do help each other at any time... If my neighbour from Venezuela does have problems with his mobilhome or car, it is logic that we help each other... We are on a mountainpass after all, and you will find no garage there... Same story with inviting people from all over the world to have dinner together or to have a few drinks.... Me and the wife are a bit older already and have been involved with cycling our whole life... To all the younger fans out there we can only give the advise to get this experience yourself at least one time in your life... You will find out that it is really addictive ❣ We wish you all a wonderfull Tour and let's hope that the decision will fall on the last day in Nice... That would be the most beautifull scenario.

@@MekonenBeraki-ln1id The fact that he's going means he is performing at a high level. I don't necessarily agree that he can go toe to toe with Pogi though. I think the prestige of bringing the previous TdF winner plays into it as well and it makes sense when you look at the rest of the season for him to try his luck at it. If he recovers well he could even go to the vuelta like last year which he should have won btw so he might sweep the field there. 3 weeks at the highest level isn't possible if he's still recovering and I would imagine UAE is going to absolutely drill it in the first week. He has a really strong team though and I think compared to the other competition I'd put him above the rest for sure.

As Dane I'm so much looking forward to watching this year. Cross my fingers for Cavendish, happy that he asked for Mørkøv to join the team and assist for another try. Kuss didn't just sit at the adults' table repeatedly as a super domestique, year after year. He has won a mountain stage at the Tour, clearly won a mountain stage of the Vuelta, and I believe you've argued that there was at least one Giro stage that he could have won if he hadn't dropped back to pull a sick or under-nourished Roglic back up to the front group. Most importantly, though, his Vuelta win last year came on the heels of his being the chief lieutenant to the eventual race winner of both the Giro and the Tour in the same calendar year. THAT, to me, automatically puts him on the same Van Aert level of, "Not one of the Gods among men [the Butterfly Effect's top three], but when in top form can consistently perform miracles."

I wish this were true Chris, but the only fully healthy, non seriously crashed first page rider at the TdF is Podacar. And, as you surely know, you have to be at the very very top of your ability to win at this level. Remember back in the Contador/Froome era when they both crashed out of the TdF, the second page riders were worthy, Nibali and Evans, but they weren't first page. Again, I don't want this to be true, I was really looking forward to this year's tour as there were, potentially, 4 teams who could have won the Tdf, now, it's probably going to be another blowout for Pogacar. That's pro cycling, crashes are simply a part of the package as are a corrupt UCI and PEDs.

One team that consistently gest overlooked/underrated is Alpecin. They are bringing both MVdP and Phillipsen , two legitimate superstars (remember them?) along with their 'A' team of superb domestiques. Any stage that is not an obvious mountain stage they can contend, hard to believe they won't have an influence on ultimate outcome. The idea that UAE or Bora or Soudal can boss the peloton and grind down Visma in the first few days overlooks the influence of teams like Lidl, Ineos and Alpecin. We got a race on then, but he is not the JV we watched last year. The other 2 (Remco and Roglic who both crashed) at least had a taste of some racing. It's a wait and see, but am not putting my money on him this year....Pogy is winning the double😅

Sep Kuss could climb with those guys, because he could use the other 15 stages as a semi rest days, while the main GC guys would have to be focussed on not losing any time... It's just a small but important detail... 😉 Sep will be the 4th or 5th US rider in the GC this Tour, he will be in full domestic mode again... But I would of course love him to prove me wrong ❣

hmmm... interesting scenario.... but then again, I guess you missed the FACT that Sepp was running 6th in the GC last year into stages 15, when a dumb ass taking a selfie knocked him off his bike.... and down to 9th overall... Oh, and let's not forget about about Carlos Rodriquez bowling balling him in stage 20... bloodied and battered so bad that he was still wearing bandages in the Vuelta... and yet he gutted out the stage when he could have quit... and finished 12th overall... So yeah... Seppie just uses "the other 15 stages as semi rest days"... uh, no... he doesn't... and maybe you should open your eyes AND mind... just a little bit, anyway....

@@SCBonneville nevertheless that has been the only time, together with his Vuelta win of course.... And it doesn't cost much to stay polite... I don't tell you to shut up or open your eyes neither... Chris was tallking about all the Grand Tours he rode for Jumbo, and not just the one Grand Tour you are talking about.. IN ALL OTHER GRAND TOURS HE USED THOSE OTHER 15 STAGES AS SEMI REST DAYS.... Maybe that you should open your eyes a bit further and not just focus on one result that is conveniant... Otherwise I could point you on all the other Grand Tours... 😉

I'm looking forward to the battle, I still have Pogacar ahead just by how he has performed and has gotten alot better but if Vingegaard isn't perfect in the beginning I expect him to get better throughout the Tour and keep the gap close enough to strike. Also Chris I was wondering if you could make a video about the Sprinters and if anyone has a chance against Phillipsen or who could challenge him🤔 👊🦋🦋

Hi Jordan, Well funny you asked for this because yesterdays video was supposed to be on sprinters but I failed so many times to put the video together that I gave up and told Garrett he can take the second half of the day off. Then today’s video I was supposed to get it done but Visma went and broke the news of Jonas and Wout starting. So hopefully tomorrow you get your wish. 😂🤪🤞🦋👊🎥

What about Jorgenson for Visma? He could go deep into the climbs given his form so far this season.

Isn't Wilco Kelderman someone who could also take Jonas deep into the mountains? This will give Jonas 3 riders in my opinion in Kuss, Jorgenson, and Kelderman who could look after Jonas deep in the mountains with Van Aert as the wild card

One guy not mentioned, I'm going to try to cash a stage with is Felix Gall. He was with the bigs at the end last year. His 14th in the final TT at TDS is an indication he might be coming into last years TDF form.

Yes. I would agree with you now that you pointed it out. At least an honorable mention after Gall’s ride last year I would think is valid. If Gall can repeat that ride from begin to end at this year TdF he’s solidly on the list 🤔🦋👊💪

Is it possible that the big 4 could collud to avoid trouble till the tell tale mountain stages. What I mean is them and their team mates that are a CG threat would follow the main peloton by 10 seconds to not be part of a big pile up. They'd be working at the front anyway.

The Visma team being more versatile, as a team I would favour them over UAE even if they are impressive. Visma would do well to play Jorgensen and Kuss and maybe en en WVA as wildcards though, it may by Vingegaard more time to grow into the race.

confirmation of Jonas attending TdF is super good news, but I can't help but thinking that he won't be bringing the version he could bring with normal preparation. If he ends up winning Pogacar performance wise (and not because some other incidents on the road) , it will be truly remarkable.

Late to the 🦋 Effect due to the fact KZfaq notification screw up again. 🙄 Anyhow this should make the Tour if nothing else, very interesting. Pogi is still the heavy favourite no matter how UAE spins it. Visma still lot of question marks. If Jonas is not up to form will Matteos or Sepp be plan B? Agree with Chris that Wout be a great help to Visma.

I'm sitting at the Chesterfield waiting for the butterfly effect I have no time to read some news written with bias in one way or the other. but what I know is this is real news. thank you Chris i can't wait for the 29th so we can see all this with our own eyeballs. As a Visma fan, I hope that even if we might not have a stronger climbing team to much UAE, they'll have to win the tour after some serious fight. and from what we have experienced this season, even The Almighty God knows we're going to fight for every second in every stage.

Assuming UAE can get all of their climbers to ride in service of Pog, I think only an in form Jonas and best form ever Roglic can still be there when Tadej launches. Hope I'm wrong but the TdF could be another GC snoozefest .

Even for a top 5 or a top 10 this year tour de france will be one of the most difficult to achieve either a podium or a top 5 or top 10 ,there's no doubt about it, but it's a race that we all know that isn't enough only if you're the strongest, and you have the better squad, with 21 races on 23 days a lot of stuff could happen, sometimes only a bad day is enough to throw all your chances to win the race ,a small crash could compromise your strategy, all those passed editions had shown that a multitude of things could happen and is the end of your goal!!!

Great news! However fit Jones will be at the start of the Tour, he won´t have had the usual time to recon the route in the diligent way he would have liked. Also he will have a psychological burden of not knowing his actual race form vis a vis his main competition - Pogi, Primoz. That said, he is a cool customer with a big heart and race intelligence.
