Oil change on my 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. A little haphazard, but got the job done with relative ease.

Just did my first oil change on my '24 Tacoma last week, was trying to get it done at 1000, but ended up closer to 1500, still better than the manufacturer suggestion of 10,000 miles... sheesh.

Yep, such bullsh*t from them - the motivations for that are strange. Turbo engine especially as the Car Care Nut/s channel will tell you.

The oil that comes with these new engines is break in oil and formulated so that all components wear in a predetermined pattern. By prematurely changing the fluids, you pretty much will glaze all of the mating metals. Read your manuals and do the research before you make your own maintenance plan.

When doing oil change on any of my vehicles, I always leave the oil fill cap on to prevent exactly your situation. Once it gets flowing, then get up and take oil fill cap off.👍🏻 Nice Tacoma.

The 2.7 used a spin on, but the 3.5 used a cartridge. Toy has gone back to spin on, on every vehicle for MY25.

@@user-tb7rn1il3q Yeah I own a 2021 SR with the 2.7. Its a work horse of a motor. But still easy to work on. I do electrical work so its abused daily; but I do my own oil changes! The spin on filter is half the reason why I went with the 2TRFE over 2GRFKS

Scrab 2-by lumber can work as wheel chocks. Also, if you don’t have jack stands, shove a stack of lumber under there in case one of those black plastic ramps collapses

You’re the 1st one to do an oil change video on the new Tacoma, thanks! You learn stuff the first couple times you change it. Please go to Harbor Freight & buy a 3/8 torque wrench so you can use the correct 14mm socket. A 1/2 torque wrench is more for torquing wheel lug nuts. That part hurt my ocd more than the oil mess. 😂

I have a 3/8th torque wrench, but it only goes up to like 30 or 35nm.
@chrisb9478
@chrisb9478 9 күн бұрын
@@BrokenMachine85 The drain plug should only need 30 foot/lbs. That’s what I set for my 21 Tacoma. My 3/8 Icon torque wrench goes from 20-100 ft/lbs. and the cheap 3/8 Pittsburg one goes 5-80ft/lbs. either will work. I just checked, 40Nm = 29.5 ft/lbs. Thanks again for doing the video though.

FU**ing OIl everywhere! That was a surprising oil deluge. I wonder if keeping the oil cover on would make the stream tamer and more manageable. Thank you for the insight and sharing.

Yep. I found leaving the oil cap on in the engine compartment of my current Tacoma to allow for a slower drain. I open it when the flow calms down. Don't feel bad BrokenMachine. I only know that because I made the same mistake! Waiting on my 24 should be any day now. Best of luck.

I did my first change a few weeks ago at about 750 miles lol. I was actually considering trying to make a video like this because there was nothing on KZfaq at the time. Kudos for actually pulling it off. Almost the same exact thing happened to me with the mess! I even left my cap and dipstick on to try and give myself a chance at not making a mess, but nope, it still shot outta there like a stream of hot piss 😂. Next time I’ll have a funnel ready to catch it!

4:50 that oil pan that drain sit a bit higher than the lower part of the pan. Looks like still hold about 1.5qtz of used oil in. Could be wrong I don’t know. Others that that did a great job.

You did the correct thing by changing the oil/filter, this flushes out most of the break in that's floating around. 600-1K miles is when to do it. Toyota says 10k miles ? they are on drugs.. Never go beyond 5k miles, period. engine longevity is a Important thing, vehicles and parts cost to damn much money. Turbo engines run hotter so changing oil every 4k -5k is best.

I have never "Primed" an oil filter before by filling it up. Only put oil on the gasket. Is this something new?
@BrokenMachine85
@BrokenMachine85 6 күн бұрын
Certainly not a new concept. I was taught to prime filters back in 2011 for my Triumph motorcycles. Also, you’re certainly not going to ruin your engine if you don’t prime a filter. Plenty of people with high mileage engines have never primed a filter. It’s just a technique to go above and beyond with ensuring 100% proper lubrication at start up after an oil/filter change.
