The latest electric motorcycle on the scene comes with some unique features and interesting tech - but they come at a cost. The Verge TS Pro sets itself apart with its spokeless rim motor, but is that really enough? Verge gave Road Test Editor Troy Siahaan two hours with the bike to get his initial thoughts. Two hours isn't nearly enough time to learn everything about the bike, but here are some first impressions.

I swear as of right now there are two categories of Electric Motorcycles... Category 1 - "Hey we've got this reasonably affordable bike for under $8,000 that has all of these nice little tech features... But the max range is about 50 miles on a full flat surface with no wind and the rider needs to be 150lbs maximum AND we're a startup company so hopefully we won't disappear one day randomly and you're left stranded with no service or support. Category 2 - "We've totally reinvented the idea of the Electric Motorcycle. The range pushes into the 150 miles and beyond, the system is sleek as hell, super quiet, super powerful.... On and it starts at the price of $29,900 for the base model and goes over $50,000 for fully upgraded.... Oh and we are also a startup company so hopefully we won't disappear one day randomly and you're left stranded with no service or support." I'm continually STUNNED by how so. many companies seem to think SO many people have this crazy amount of disposable income to spend on things... My rent for a studio apartment is $1,400 alone, not including food, fuel, electricity, internet and ANY other problems that may come my way. I literally can NEVER afford something like this without risking pure and total financial gambling.... On the Verge official site it talks about financing and it states, and I quote, "we are negotiating with one of the world’s leading consumer finance enterprises to offer financing options for those interested"... Wow that sound sketchy at best, as if the ink on the contract hasn't even dried yet. It sucks because the tech IS great and this bike would be something I'd ride forever, even giving up my car for. But these companies keep thinking we all have crazy amounts of money to spend when most of us are one paycheque away from literal homelessness... Totally out of touch with most people's living situations.

Still trying to ride that early adopter-covid thing where people blew all their cash on expensive junk, electric stuff in general is still mostly overpriced, oh well, plenty of used gas bikes to ride for low cost. Big tire = slow turn in or the wheel is too narrow? who knows.
@sno5840
@sno5840 20 күн бұрын
Why are you so flabbergasted about the price? Any new bike electric or not will cost atleast 30k$... If you don't have the money to buy bike then just don't buy it. It's not necessary thing to get, but if you have the extra money then go for it.

The primary advantage of a higher voltage battery is it can have a faster DC charging time. This is similar to how USB fast charging uses higher voltage to reduce the impact of the amperage limitation of the charger cables.

I rode a prototype about 18 months ago. Only had about 5 minutes on it, but the handling didn't seem quite right. Almost felt like a flat rear tyre, but it could just have been the size.

Want! There's some huge holes in those brake rotors up front! I guess they want you to use Regen to slow down. In answer to your Why: 20kW of battery is almost 1/3 of my Tesla, so range should be pretty good. Props to them for making this bike, I can't wait for Gen 2 or 3...

Two questions: Do you think the placement of the battery being so low messes with the handling? Years ago Honda attempted to lower the CG on a racebike and it made handling bad, they got rid of that idea. Two: Is it difficult to change the rear tire? Seems that it wouldn't be an easy out and in.

Great concept, but one of the great things about gas powered is the noise. The loud noise from a motorcycle helps vehicles know that there is a bike there.

For EV bikes they are all largely the same... you will get about 8-10 miles per kWh on average, dropping to about 6 on multi-lane stretches, rising to about 12 round town. So if the usable battery capacity on this one is about 18kWh, expect to get 162 miles out of it. Which is more than my Z900, and about 40 miles more than my Zero.
@hgbekker
@hgbekker Ай бұрын
And the second biggest elephant in the room: How long does a nearly empty battery take to charge to full? I bet you it's not 2 minutes, like it takes for my Z1000SX to fill up
@caspianprince
@caspianprince Ай бұрын
@@hgbekkerit'll be an hour at least... which in general use is perfectly fine. It'd be nice if it was half an hour or even 15 minutes, but in practice, an hour is ok if you're touring. The other 99% of the time it's charging at home and is therefore actually less inconvenient than your Z. (I know, coz I have both)

Still want to know why you would design a bike where you cannot balance the rear tire. Not the wheel, the tire. And I say this in every video featuring this bike, "Leaving the phase leads exposed is a pointless and egregious safety hazard. You're needlessly endangering people for some cool looking orange wires on the side of the bike." Edit- I'm glad Troy got to ride this and share his experience because he's uniquely qualified.

No doubt it's electronically, damped, limited, traction controlled etc etc...otherwise it'd be unusable and/or result in insane safety liabilities for the company which makes me think it's a reasonably pointless feature of the motorcycle and apart from the bragging rights probably doesn't result in an appreciably different torque experience than an SV650 with a cat delete and tune.

This product is a scam, they attract buyer with insane impossible numbers, they claim 1200N-m (885ft-lbs) of torque from a small 150kW motor, that's almost as much as the COMBINED output of the three much larger/heavier motors inside a Tesla Plaid, they bumped the numbers 3-4X.
