This year, during the Chinese New Year holidays, we decided to travel to three countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. On February 9th, which was New Year's Eve in Vietnam, we were in Hanoi and were able to enjoy the beautiful scenes of the drones display and also watch the moment of New Year's Eve fireworks at the West Lake.
Vietnamese people celebrate Tết annually, which is based on a lunisolar calendar (calculating both the motions of earth around the sun and of the moon around earth). Tết is generally celebrated on the same day as Chinese new year (also called Spring Festival), with the one-hour time difference between Vietnam and China resulting in the new moon occurring on different days. Rarely, the dates of Vietnamese and Chinese lunar new year can differ as such in 1943, when Vietnam celebrated lunar new year, one month after China. It takes place from the first day of the first month of the Vietnamese lunar calendar (around late January or early February) until at least the third day.
Tết is also an occasion for pilgrims and family reunions. They set aside the trouble of the past year and hope for a better and happier upcoming year.

Important disclaimer! The sole intention of this video is to share how the New Year is celebrated in Vietnam. The country name in the beginning refers to the location where the New Year is celebrated. After publishing the video, we came to know (through comments ) that this could be seen as a sensitive topic by some of our viewers in China. Although it might sound obvious, we would like to emphasize that the video is about sharing an amazing way to celebrate the new year in Vietnam and has no claim in the title nor in the description about historical facts and background of the tradition. This is not something within our competence and therefore we leave it to the experts. We are committed to respect the culture of all countries and we are confident that there are enough resources publicly available to explore historical background of the event. Thanks for understanding and one more time Happy New Year! Every Nook and Cranny team

Happy New Year to Vietnamese people. -1 The Vietnamese are a wet rice growing people, so they have the ability to observe the moon and sun to create a convenient calendar for planting and predict the weather, and they mark the first day of a rice crop water with celebrations, thereby creating Tet customs. Evidence is that the image of the sun printed on the Bronze Drum of ancient Vietnamese people is also accompanied by an illustration of the celebration and production of a new crop. The Han people (Huaxia) are a nomadic people that appeared in the Inner Mongolia region. And nomads cannot create agricultural calendars. Not to mention the Han people are the latest ethnic group to appear in Asia, only a little earlier than the Japanese. Evidence is that the Han people do not have Haplogroup O2 DNA but only Haplogroup O3... Haplogroup O represents the DNA of South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia... which is divided into O1 O2 and O3. - O1 is the most ancient - O2 is in the middle - O3 is modern. Most Vietnamese people have O2, while Han people only have O3 and no O2

@@Nook.Cranny Chinese Tet in Chinese Vietnam where people eat Chinese bun bo hue. I have a feeling that this propaganda media is paid by American and Japanese governments to intentionally erase the name of China doing cultural genocide. It’s one thing to hate some Ideologies but it’s another to intentionally misbrand a whole ancient civilization’s inventions as anything other than that civilization’s name. You can hate France because of its politics, but you can’t misbrand French cultural inventions as Polish Eiffel Tower, Spanish Arc de Triomphe, German Louvre, etc. Your propaganda video is beyond absurd and you know you are paid to spread this kind of cultural genocide propaganda video to erase the name China off the Chinese New Year which is based on the Chinese invented Chinese calendar and which originated from China. Your political views and you being a paid propangada agent spread intentional historical and cultural misinformation is absurd. Sure, if you want to call it “Vietnamese New Year”, then we call it Chinese Tet. To be honest, Chinese Tet is way more historically accurate than your propaganda “Vietnamese New Year”. This kind of political nonsense funded by Japan and USA trying to culturally, historically and geographically erase the name of one of the Four Cradles of Civilization should be sued in UNESCO which tries to preserve cultural heritage and invention. China only comes after Italy in having the most UNESCO heritage sites because China has 5000 years of civilization. I guess your severely jealous Japanese boss and American boss who funds you “remove the name of China”propaganda must be green with jealousy. So Happy Chinese Tet. I hate to see American and Japanese troublemakers ruining this ancient Chinese tradition that originated from China with another “erase the name of China” propaganda video like you. Are you paid to call it “Vietnamese New Year”? Do you like French sushi, Spanish sashimi, Polish teppanyaki, Chinese takoyaki, Cambodian sukiyaki, and Laos teriyaki better, or Italian bun bo hue, Burmese Tet, and Thai banh mi?

It’s CHINESE New Year in Vietnam, NOT Vietnamese New Year. Stop trying to drown out the word “Chinese” in these kinds of propaganda. This is Chinese New Year based on the Chinese calendar invented by the Chinese. Only the inventor gets to put their brands on, not copycat Sinospheric cultures. You guys don’t want China to slap their label in Chinese New Year with the excuse that this is celebrated all over Asia so we need to respect other cultures, but now you are slapping this fake brand “Vietnamese” on this CHINESE New Year? Once again, it’s CHINESE New Year. Don’t try to erase the title China the inventor brand. Copycat Sinospheric brands can get their fake “Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese” brands out because they just keep copying Chinese cultural elements. It’s not really their culture but Chinese culture. If they don’t want the authentic inventor Chinese brand, don’t celebrate it and invent their own culture, which is way better.

Hi @@Hoo88846 Thanks for your comment! We have now made it clear (as a pinned comment) that our only intention of publishing this video was to share how the New Year is celebrated in Vietnam. In this video we do not intend to narrate the historical background or attribute the tradition to specific country which is something out of our expertise capacity. We hope this video contributes in paying attention to the history of the event, how and by whom it was invented. That includes our team in this channel too. We are looking at the possibility of making a video about this calendar, once we are back to China. In the meantime we encourage our viewers to enjoy the beauty of this event, respect people who celebrate it (either in China or Vietnam or elsewhere) and of course be grateful to the great civilization who created such a wonderful calendar. Thank you!

@@Nook.Cranny So no intention of correcting your misleading title “Vietnamese New Year”. I guess still intend to mislead. 😆😆😆. Still intend to plagiarize and appropriate. You do know why now where Tet or the Tet is based on but you pretend you don’t know so you can keep up this misleading propaganda. You own this video. You can easily correct the misleading cultural plagiarism title of “Vietnamese New Year” just as easily as you can correct a misleading title of “Vietnamese Christmas” after someone told you that Christmas didn’t come from Vietnam. So you still pretend you don’t know the original of the CHINESE New Year using the CHINESE lunisolar calendar. What is the disclaimer to do if your whole title still intends to appropriate Chinese cultural element as “Vietnamese”? So I guess now we can call it American bun bo hue, Chinese bun bo hue, and Chinese kimchi, and Chinese sushi. Like what you said, I don’t really know their origin. I only care about how to cook them and celebrate cooking, so let’s just say I enjoy American bun bo hue better. Or it’s better to call it Chinese Tet because after all, inventor claims the invention, so it’s Chinese Tet or Chinese Spring Festival, so Happy Chinese Tet or Chinese New Year or Chinese Spring Festival. If copycats can so blatantly put their brands everywhere, inventor China has way more rights to do so to reclaim their inventions back.

@@Hoo88846 Hi again. Vietnamese New Year is a correct expression. There are numerous examples: French wine, German beer, American pizza, Chinese mobile and many more, does not make the US as pizza inventor, or France as the first nation who made wine etc. Would be quite strange if a video about German beers in Munich to be used as a reference to consider Germany as the birthplace of beer. The same applies on the term “Vietnamese New Year”. The roots of the amazing lunisolar calendar would be a topic for a future video. We believe we have now covered this topic. Once again thanks for your comments and we wish you a Happy New Chinese Year! Every Nook and Cranny

Han people invaded and conquered all the land and assimilated almost all the Baiyue tribes. the Lunar new year was invented by BaiYue People because they have rice civilization (which used Lunar time to plant rice). Han people did not plant rice they originally live in North Chjna nowaday! So sump up Lunar new year ok?or for us it is Tet holliday, was invented by our ancestors Bai Yue people (what you call in Chinese or Bách Việt in Vietnamese). Remember 4000 years ago there were no any countries or empires called China! so just call it Lunar New Year
