2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge // Luxury EV Crossover Gets More Range & Faster Charging // Full Review

Volvo brings their subcompact luxury EV crossover back for 2024 with some big changes. The XC40 Recharge is now offered in rear-wheel-drive form with a single-motor setup, more range, faster charging, and better handling. This one uses a new 82 kWh battery pack that charges from 10%-80% in 28 minutes and is rated to go 293 miles on a single charge. This powertrain makes 248-hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. But what's all that mean in the real world? Let's go ahead and take a look.

Does the bigger battery, better range, and faster charging tip the scales for you? What else are you cross-shopping?

If the trunk raises too high, you can pull it to where it's comfortable for you and hold the close button on the left until it beeps. To return it to full height just push it up and hold the button again until it beeps

You kick out and back not a sweep to open the trunk. It's just left of center. .. works every time.

I always start with a kick to the left side and a kick to the right then start sweeping when I can't find it. Maybe I'm just bad at it 😆 just could not get it, but I've gotten it just fine on the last few cars I've had

Looking for an EV with good ground clearance and awd...this one seems to check all boxes .now more with the range.

It definitely checks those boxes well. I know the Kona EV has even more ground clearance if you need that. BZ4X and Solterra are up there as well, but I haven't heard great things about them.

I think they are the wrong way around, I have a MY24 AWD XC40 recharge and it’s 82kwh battery and currently in winter doing 240miles range on 100% SoC. I’m in the UK so may be different in other countries.

Oh interesting. Is the Polestar 2 the same way? The XC40, C40, and Polestar 2 here in the US are all 78 for awd and 82 for rwd.

Could be, seems Europe and North America have different specs. My AWD also does 200kwh fast charging on DC not 150kwh. I agree with the 20inch wheels not being ideal, I wish they were smaller as already curbed them 😬

Ah, makes sense. It's probably the same 82 kWh battery so it can accept the faster charge. I imagine they'll update the AWD one here at some point with that battery. Oof, sorry to hear about the wheels!
