The Mercedes-AMG E53 received a power of 603 hp. The Mercedes-AMG tuning division presented a new and sporty E53, which will be equipped with a six-cylinder hybrid engine.
The new AMG model with a charging port is the Mercedes E-Class in the "53" variant.
Compared to the regular E-Class, the “AMG 53” has a stiffer body, larger brakes and rear-wheel steering as standard. A fully variable all-wheel drive system is paired with an adaptive suspension with variable damping. The novelty received a slightly more aggressive design with wider front wings, an illuminated mesh radiator grille and square round exhaust tips. It is interesting that the front axle is slightly wider than that of the regular E-class.
Although electrification is usually based on the use of a compact internal combustion engine, AMG did it differently: the version has not only an in-line six-cylinder engine, but also a 3.0-liter gasoline engine that produces more power than before.
The previous AMG E53 produced 429 hp, while its replacement will use a turbocharged six-cylinder engine that already produces 443 hp. However, the internal combustion engine now works together with a 161 hp electric motor, offering a total system output of 577 hp.
Moreover, the activation of Race Start, which is a marketing reformatting of the launch control, temporarily increases the total power to 603 hp. Thanks to 750 Nm, a huge increase in torque is provided, since the previous model had to settle for 520 Nm.
That kind of electrified muscle is enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds for the sedan, while the slightly heavier wagon takes an extra 0.1 seconds. Both are electronically limited at 250 km/h, but the optional AMG Driver’s Package relaxes the limiter to 280 km/h for the sedan and 275 km/h for the long-roof model. When the new E53 models work exclusively on electric drive, the maximum speed is 140 km/h.
Mercedes-AMG's new product is due to arrive at dealers later this year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. The old AMG E53 sold from $81,300.
