2025 Porsche 911 Unveiled: Hybrid Powertrain for Starting A New Era!!
Porsche is set to reveal the 2025 911 on May 28, marking a significant milestone in the iconic sports car's 61-year history with the introduction of a hybrid powertrain. This groundbreaking update promises to enhance the 911's performance and dynamic capabilities.
Frank Moser, Vice President of Model Line 911 and 718, emphasized the significance of this development: "For the first time in our icon’s 61-year history, we are installing a hybrid drive system in a roadgoing 911. This innovative performance hybrid makes the 911 even more dynamic."
Porsche's teaser release suggests that the hybrid assistance will be integrated into the regular Carreras, rather than being a separate model. Although specific details about the powertrain remain scarce, it is confirmed that the new 911 will not be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) but a "performance hybrid." This hybrid system has enabled the 2025 911 GTS to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 16.9 seconds, a remarkable 8.7 seconds faster than its predecessor.
The impressive lap time was achieved with a 992.2 model equipped with standard road tires and the optional Aerokit, which includes a large, fixed rear wing and vertical vanes in the front bumper that might act as active air flaps. The new model boasts more grip, significantly increased power, and the immediate response typical of performance hybrids.
In terms of power, the current 911 Carrera offers 283 kW and 450 Nm of torque from its 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine. The Carrera S increases this to 331 kW and 530 Nm, while the GTS delivers 353 kW and 570 Nm. Reports suggest that the hybrid system, potentially named T-HEV, will include a small electric motor driving the front wheels, adding between 60 kW and 67 kW. Developed by Rimac, a specialist in electric hypercars and 45% owned by Porsche, the system weighs just 27 kg and uses a 2.0 kWh battery pack recharged via regenerative braking and the petrol engine.
