the 2nd i can believe kuz of the machining that would require but the first being the cheapo round of the 20mm and the 2nd looking like a tungsten dowel covered in plastic? Very expensive.

Man what holes they make. Damn I love slow motion. If you watch the first shot you can see the bullet go thru the 4th into the 5th I think. But yea you see it go thru so cool. Now the last shot damn that's so crazy watching it in slow mo. Love them shells. How much bigger is the 20 and the 50 shells. They look close in size but haven't seen them side by side yet. Well good vidoe be carful storing your stuff in them safes it may fall out. Lol. Good vidoe thanks and God bless

The reason why it not super hot is probably due to the hardness of tungsten core. Less deformation hence less heat generated.
@luthmhor4 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the second bullet isn’t super hot because it wasn’t deformed as much as the first one. And it probably stayed mostly centred and so didn’t have as much “rubbing” and thus friction to generate heat. The first bullet tumbled and ended up going through some of those safes sideways.
@grantthomas55016 жыл бұрын
If I could and had the time I would watch your videos all day
@kristokirov7 жыл бұрын
Second one wasn't that hot probably because it didn't undergo much plastic deformation. Lots of heat builds up from internal friction if the round flattens out or gets smashed. Twist a coat hanger a bunch when it's soft and you'll notice similar heating.

in the 5:27 u asked why the bullet isnt super hot. Its not cus what makes it warm is, mainly, the metal deformation on the bullet itself. Hitting the walls of the safes dont make that difference than bending the metal. One example of this is when u pick up a copper wire and start to moving back and foward, it will first get hot, till it breaks
@EdwinSarkissian7 жыл бұрын

what about the friction applied when the projectile shrinks itself?
@markserbu7 жыл бұрын
+Chris Albrecht what the hell are you doing? This guy, who is obviously not a native English speaker, is asking a simple question. Not only do you use (well, misuse) a lot of large words in your response, what you're saying is WRONG! Bullet deformation has a LOT to do with creating heat. Deformation takes energy, and the energy put into deforming the projectile comes out as HEAT. +Nicolas Piano, the correct answer is that the bullet is hot for three reasons. First, it was launched out of the gun by something really damn hot, burning gunpowder! Second, there is a lot of friction between the bullet and the barrel. Third, the bullet hit steel and deformed (or bent all to shit).
@beamngnation94947 жыл бұрын

why it's not hot? Metal gets hot only when it deforms quickly. The bullet was intact and not deformed, that's why it wasn't hot. Also the higher the metal density, the less deformation it has to have to generate heat. In other words .. a lead bullet would have to deform completely to get really hot, while a tungsten round would have to deform only a little bit to achieve same heat as the lead bullet.

@nobsherc6 жыл бұрын
if it's a large cube, the bullet will probably ricochet away, if it's a small cube, I don't know what will happen. tungsten is really heavy and hard, tungsten vs high speed tungsten will probably be marvelous thing to see in slomo.
@boogerisapain7 жыл бұрын
could you please shoot the tracer round and the practice round through the safe doors too just to get an idea of how much of a difference there is between the different rounds just so they each have the same amount of density to go through
@AustinMichael5 жыл бұрын
The tungsten round didn't go as far as the others because they turned the safes around and shot it right through the part in each safe where all the mass is which is the door behind the electronics. The first two were shot through the top and bottom which is just sheet metal.If that tungsten round was shot through the same bottom and top as the first two it would have cleared all of them easily.

The hard part of the projectile doesn't heat up much because it doesn't go through much deformation (being hard that is). The soft part deforms and it's kinetic energy is transformed into thermal, making it hot. It's 8th grade physics.

The Phalanx CIWS is basically a self-targetting Vulcan canon with a lot of ammunition on hand! I would like to see Edwin shoot a 30mm depleted uranium Avenger round from something that could handle it! The cartridges themselves are monstrous to hold--they look like miniaturized artillery rounds.
@7150285 Жыл бұрын
Lol you are misinformed. Those (are not) the 20x102mm Vulcan rounds like what you are thinking. Those are 20x110mm Hispano rounds that they were shooting. The red tip Mk244 Phalanx APDS Tungsten is from the 20x102mm Vulcan most likely correct, but they were shooting the 20x110mm Hispano cartridges.

The bullet that was not hot was not deformed. The deformation is what generates the heat. You can forge steel and it keeps glowing red just from changing the form (if the piece is big enough)
