@@rkt81 The BIG PUSH has been for the country to move over to electric vehicles. That's been ongoing for a decade. The government is already in consultation over applying road taxes to EVs at the moment. How long do you believe EVs will go without being taxed, to provide funds to repair and maintain the roads? How long do you believe that charging an EV will go without a form of "Fuel Tax" for every time you charge up? It'll be "justified" by claiming more funds are needed to build more charging stations (forgetting that we haven't got the generation infrastructure to cope with demand). Horses/Cattle would be no different. A migration across to animals for transport would be straight on their radar, if you could convince the animal rights vegans to join in and not protest your every journey for animal cruelty.

Scientists who challenge the view of this young man's climate hysteria are simply not being heard in one of the most corrupt eras we have ever lived in - the full truth of which is just emerging and when it does, those who have been living in ignorance over the last three dreadful years will get a very nasty shock indeed. P.S: I live in the countryside, birds did not fall from the trees in the last hot summer and apples certainly didn't cook on my apple tree - they were just very large by autumn. 1. 20mph means driving in 2nd or 3rd gear, mor engine revolutions for less forward movement, this is worse for emissions. 2. The reason for the 20mph limit is to make cycling appear as the faster option. 3. The planet maybe warming (again), however there is no climate EMERGENCY. 4. Nothing cooks at 40 degrees this barely warmer than your skin temperature, it is also 310 degrees too cool to start fires. 5. If the UK was removed from the planet today, it would have NO effect on the climate at all, we are a tiny island and China alone is increasing their CO2 output by many more times than our total every year. 6. If we have a cold summer this year, global warming will be blamed.

I think Mike Parry is right. Most cars do burn slightly more fuel and produce more pollution at 20 mph than 30. Although there is more air resistance (drag) at 30 mph, this is more than cancelled out if the car can engage a higher gear at that speed, and there is less internal friction resistance from the engine to overcome.

So the question was about whether 20mph limits are necessary but he just went on about how you don't need a car in London. No mention of shorter stopping distances or reducing collisions or injuries from people being hit. He basically admitted it is just a ruse to dissuade people from driving altogether. Such a weird coincidence that the solution to every single problem is for plebs to sacrifice their freedom.

Agreed yes some 30mph zones should never be turned it 20mph road zones and most should have the higher limit kept between midnight and 6am except the period off New Year’s Eve/day as almost no traffic and/or pedestrians around during those hours on the other 364 days at those times …… however going back to your point if it’s an 30mph road that becomes / produces stop-start traffic at least 4 hours during the day then a 20mph limit is actually better as road flowing traffic capacity is higher before it becomes stop-start and all cars will at least be on the move instead off producing pollution whist stationary …… my only gripe with these 20mph roads is needless road bumps and lack off flexible speeds for different times off the day / lack off variable speed limits… many German roads by schools have lower speed limits at appropriate times and higher normal speeds for the rest off the day.

That kid reading from the script by his side made me laugh. He seems to have a narrow point of view repeating the same thing. 20mph around schools and other sensible places I think is great. But it is clear that some of these places with a 20mph speed limit are a source of revenue. There need to be rules that prevent people being taken advantage of.

In my area in Scotland they introduced 20mph during the pandemic to 'encourage people to walk for exercise'. After the lockdown ended, they kept it citing that it reduced road deaths despite there being none in the area. It was about control. The point that Mike and the young child missed is that for Mike to get into central London by public transport for 5am from Surrey he'd have to leave home at about 9 or 10pm the previous night as there's no public transport at 4am in the morning. I used to start work at 1-2am, it's a 7 mile drive, I couldn't use a bike as there was a thing called the river Thames in the way and it's a 20 mile trip via Tower bridge. No public transport to get me there at that time of day.

No, it doesn't because if there was more traffic on the road then you would likely to be travelling at less than 20mph so it would be unnecessary to have the speed limit anyway, it would police itself. Which makes gaining revenue the main objective. It also distracts people from paying attention to the road because there attention is spent on the speed camera rather than any potential hazards.

Oxford have had these for 15 years and they were ridiculous then too. You don’t want to be walking around parts of London late at night and become a stabbing statistic. I’ll tell you something else E10 is worse for the climate than E5 so why were the fuels switched? Do you mean better? I loved that hot weather. Booked a few days off and sat outside, lovely. On that hottest day of the year I originally planned a long walk but strikes meant one friend couldn’t use the train on that day.

Here in Wales (yes we do exist) the Welsh government want to introduce a blanket 20mph limit in all areas that are presently 30mph. If your driving through a housing estate with narrow roads, schools, shops, parked cars etc then I get it but main arterial roads through towns, villages and cities the lower limit is to prevent hitting pedestrians that persist in walking into a live traffic lane with their face stuck in a smart phone and their ears bunged with ear buds. A blanket ban on anything just shows a lack of intelligence to deal with a problem thoughtfully.
