Song about the 20th Century Limited passenger train, including video provided by poatharchives. 20th Century was the premier passenger train of the NYC from 1902-1967. She traveled the "Water Level Route" along the Hudson River on her way from Grand Central Station to Chicago, she was a 16hr luxury ride! The 20th Century Limited was the originator of the "red carpet treatment" Song written and peformed by John LeBaron copyright 2011

Marvellously nostalgic piece combining beautiful music and video. I'm a UK steam fan that fondly remembers the great days but the appeal of steam and trains is shared Worldwide !

Awesome footage of one of America's Classic trains. I wish I had been born 10 yrs. earlier so that I could have ridden it.

I wrote Amtrak a letter in 1983 suggesting that they rename the Lake Shore Limited the Twentieth Century Limited which is a much Nicer & classier name for a passenger train. The fastest the Twentieth Century Limited ran between Chicago & New York City was 15 hours, 17 minutes in December of 1958. Today it would be nice if the Lake Shore Limited were renamed the Twenty-First Century Limited, run it on a schedule of 14 hours, 30 minutes, it can be done, the roadbed is in great shape, and some of the long station times can be reduced, and the shortest distance between the last stop before completing the trip can be shortened which can achieve that time of 14 hours, 30 minutes.

Christopher O'Rourke As nice as that would be, it can't happen for a few reasons. The Amtrak Lake Shore Limited doesn’t make the same stops as the 20th Century Limited once did and doesn't even completely follow the exact route. In the case of schedule changes, Amtrak equipment can move at high speed but circumstances won't allow them to. CSX owns most of trackage that the Lake Shore Limited runs on and management always gives priority to their own frieght trains rather than Amtrak's passenger trains. Because of this, the train often arrives at it's destination several hours late. People often call that train the "Late for Sure Limited".
