TOPIC: WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TREASURE?
First Reading: Sirach 48: 1-14
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 97: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7
Alleluia: Romans 8: 15bc
Gospel: Matthew 6: 7-15
Who does not long to discover a hidden treasure”? The human heart was made for the happiness and security that treasure promises, as well as the joy it brings. But one fundamental problem presents itself: to what kind of treasure should we entrust our hearts? Jesus warns us to be wary of the false treasures that are at our hearts each day -- earthly treasures of fine clothes, wealth, power, position and possessions. Each of these treasures is fleeting and can, and will, be taken from us.
Jesus offers us the one treasure worthy of the human heart, the one treasure that will not betray us, the only one that can accompany us through the grave and across the threshold to eternal life. That treasure is the person of Jesus Christ Himself and all of the good actions and deeds we do for His sake. Living for Jesus alone, loving Him above all else, giving up our lives, our very selves to Him, constitute the only treasure rich enough to satisfy the human heart.
This is the 1516th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Jess Ferrer, Head of the CFC Migrants Program, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives. This video is also available on Couples for Christ’s Facebook page. In You Tube, just type ONLY BY GRACE REFLECTIONS]
