As always a very good video and very informative. I actually enjoy those lenses that allow you to change the F-stop so that you can adjust zone focus visually. Some TTArtisans have a problem at infinity - did you ever shoot it at full infinity and was the far-ground in focus?
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You know, I didn't have the presence of mind to just try it at infinity and see how very distant objects look. I'll have to test that!

Cool venue and pics - good choice for f/l. Reflection shot impressive. So few people about; what time of day were you there? Surprised at ramp (4 min in vid) - imagine skateboarders on it.
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 2 жыл бұрын
Haha, the ramp is so you can easily take your bicycle up. I think if you tried riding a skateboard down this ramp it would be a trip straight to the cemetery. It was the afternoon on a Sunday and this is a business district, though even on weekdays these walkways are never very crowded. Most people get into their office buildings via the underground passages from the metro station below.

I wish the TTArtisan 21mm f/1.5 lens was available when I purchased my Leica 21mm f/1.4 Summilux. Probably would have saved some money. My gosh, I just checked on the price difference and the Summilux is 10x more expensive. I can guarantee that it is not 10x better.

Seems like sharpness improves very noticably when you stop down from f/1.5 to f/2 - so maybe avoiding f/1.5 would be the best overall?
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 2 жыл бұрын
It does! But sharpness isn't everything. I would not avoid f/1.5. I like the effect of lenses like this. But sure, if sharpness is your goal then you have to avoid f/1.5, and I would say even f/2.

Quite near the Conrad Tokyo hotel... always amazes me in a city like Tokyo there are still places with few people walking around at certain times of day. So overall how do you rate distortion of this lens when composition has lots of straight lines?
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 2 жыл бұрын
That's right! I don't recall significant distortion off the top of my head. It does have significant lens flare thought!

Another nice one! One weird question: on the stairway featured around the 3:40 mark, what is the purpose of the flat section in the middle of the stairs? I noticed the woman walking up that middle bit and not on the steps themselves. And then of course you walk up the ramp as well. Is this a common feature of japanese stairways?

I had settled on the Voigtlander 21/3.5 skopar for Sony FE... But this is giving me pause. I'm at F8 or F11 about 95% of the time. I'm guessing this lens can't keep up with the Voigtlander in the corners but I bet it's pretty close for most the frame and F8. Did you experience much distortion? Thanks for the awesome review. Finally someone who shoots just normal good street!
@EYExplore
@EYExplore Жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you're really picky about sharpness then this lens may disappoint, but to me it had no issues. I never looked in the corners and felt disappointed. I don't recall any significant or distracting distortion, but also I don't think there is a profile available to remove it easily. Glad you liked the video! :)
@Project_2501
@Project_2501 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucas! In your opinion, does the true hyperfocal point/distance differ from lens to lense? Have you made any experience with that? For example: Infinity at f.11 for one lens and Infinity and f.16 for another. Or even that the hyper focal point is actually before infinity on a specific lens at for example at somewhere around 10m distance at an f.11? because at 5:03 you said you were actually going a tiny bit beyond infinity. My voigtlander 40mm that you also have deoesn't even allow me to go beyond, because the wheel stops exactly at infinity at most of that kind of lenses.
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 2 жыл бұрын
I think my statement about 'beyond infinity' was very vague. Apologies for that. What I meant was that instead of putting the infinity mark on the f/11 mark, I put it on the f/8 mark, which means I have plenty of safe-room 'beyond' infinity. In other words, I was shooting on f/11 but set my hyper focal distance as though I was shooting at f/8, meaning I had room to spare and I could be very confident that infinity is within the DOF I set. I hope that make sense! :)

We rarely see clips of Oscar Peterson going on and on about his piano. The audience wants to hear him play, not waving his hands in the front of a stationary camera, giving details of his Steinway. The focus in photographic content has slipped too far to the equipment.
