Correct! The ARC is designed to fit into an AR15 mag. If you're running a gas gun, it's the obvious choice. If you're running a bolt gun, different story.

Reports from shooters who shoot a lot say ARC breaks bolts much quicker than the standard bolt face. Now in a bolt gun you have a bigger bolt with more support so it can handle higher round counts.

I personally dont worry about barrel life. Barrels are a consumable part. Folks who shoot alot understand. Most of the time the folks complaining about barrel life never shot enough to come close to wearing out one barrel. In todays world buying a chambered prefit is easy than ever. Just make sure you have a vetted smith do the work and have a solid action.

You don’t need a gunsmith if you have a precision action and a prefit. Barrel vice and go gage-done. And yes. Barrels are like brake pads and disposable razors. Whoever says barrel burner has probably never replaced one since they think it’s so unthinkable.

Definitely of all the Creedmoor’s it’s the biggest improvement over legacy offerings. 308/260 v 6.5, 243 v 6, 22-250 v 22 creed. IMO all the big 22’s are barrel burners so that’s nothing new. If I was heavily invested in 22-250 I probably wouldn’t run out to buy one though.

I think Hornady is just focusing on the gas gun segment more. It’s harder to make a cartridge that fits in a standard size AR15 platform than it is a bolt gun. The AR is also the most popular gun in the US. I mean, I jumped on the 6Arc train for sure. I’ve got a 12.5” 6Arc on an SBR lower that out performs a 77gr 223 from an 18” barrel, while still having a larger frontal surface area. It’s become my do it all rifle, anything from varmint, deer, long range, exc.

It really comes down to marketing and volume. They are going after the volume with the 22 ARC. There are very likely way more AR15 rifles than there ever will be AR10 and 22CM bolt rifles COMBINED. High volume gives a company profit. From a marketing standpoint, they must focus on only ONE new 22 cartridge. They are picking the high volume 22 ARC. It’s just smart business.

When Hornady decides to get 100% behind a cartridge it really takes off. The 22 ARC is the next super cartridge no doubt. Hornady is making brass, dies, cartridge gauges and load data for the 22 ARC and will supply tech support. The 62 grain ELD-VT should be a great combination for this cartridge and I see on Ruger's web site they will be releasing an American in 22 ARC. The future looks very bright for the 22 ARC.
@blueeyeddevil15 ай бұрын
The problem is, they don't always get 100% behind them, precisely because they are busy churning out the "next big thing," which they may or may not get 100% behind. I dig innovation, but you have to support what you come up with if the demand is there or seems like it will be. One thing is certain; if you don't properly support the cartridge, it definitely can't grow in popularity. They release five different cartridges in rapid succession and fully support maybe two of them once everyone commits and buys a barrel or rifle so chambered. How about just releasing those two and spending some of the money saved on fully supporting them?
@ronjones14145 ай бұрын
@blueeyeddevil1 Doing that doesn't make money, and the purpose of a business is to make money. Releasing 5 cartridges at the same time allows market signals, which take huge amounts of data to ascertain, to come to light allowing the manufacturer to give the market what it wants. There isn't anything else to understand.
@blueeyeddevil15 ай бұрын
@@ronjones1414 Money initially devoted to cartridges that aren't supported and consequently don't take off--despite obvious demand--amounts to a loss of profits because time, energy, and resources were dumped into them during the development (design, testing, tooling, manufacturing, marketing etc.) phases. One of the most critical parts of a cartridge's success, after you've generated demand, is supply sufficient to meet or exceed the growing demand. Demand doesn't grow in a vacuum. If you want a cartridge to take off, assuming you've done your marketing research and you have a viable design, you have to push it AND back it up with production. With too many irons in the fire that becomes impossible, and you essentially condemn your otherwise successful product to failure. It's called "overextension." Hornady is typically good at design and the initial-push marketing , but they often drop the ball when it comes to production support. 6 ARC is a great example. Demand was there and rifle and barrel manufacturers jumped on board early, but the ammo and brass (of which, to this day, only Hornady and Starline are producers, despite the cartridge being SAMMI approved going on 4 years now) never ramped up sufficiently to grow the cartridge. There were other factors as well, as there always are, but it's still a cartridge that no one is thinking about getting into anymore at this point. They've learned their lesson. The purpose of a business is to maximize profit, and to continue to do so. Simply making a nickel for every $10 you put out isn't a particularly good business model. Reductions in costs factor heavily into a given business's bottom line, and effectively amount to profit. And in case you haven't been paying attention, there are many people who are tired of the "cartridge of the week" from Hornady, particularly when they can't get ammo or brass for the last cartridge Hornady pushed and then decided to sandbag. That's called "backlash." There isn't anything else to understand.
@blueeyeddevil15 ай бұрын
@@ronjones1414 The purpose of a business is to maximize profit. And part of that is reducing costs. Devoting appreciable resources to cartridges that you later choose to sandbag, despite their popularity, precisely because you are overextended and can't keep up on the production side, is risky. It's essentially a battle between the marketing and design sides and the production side, and Hornady tends to favor the former. In the aforementioned example, Hornady may generate 5 cartridges and effectively support the most popular 3, all but abandoning the less popular (though still viable) 2, because they can't sufficiently support all 5 of them. They're overextended on the production side. And while that (obviously) can be profitable, it can also generate backlash and disappointment in the consumer base. Your pseudo-marketing babble made me laugh, though, so points for that. Apparently there IS something else to learn, to wit: no business in any industry devotes the significant resources necessary to bring a product to market for the purpose of generating "market signals" to gauge whether that product will sink or swim. That's what early market research is for.
@ronjones14145 ай бұрын
@blueeyeddevil1 your correct, they do this over and over because it keeps losing them money. Thank you for the education. Hopefully, their marketing executives will reach out to you.

Now with Peterson and AD making quality brass it’s really makes it nice. I think one difference at least for me is I run heavier bullets through my 22CM. Where I think the Arc is probably for the folks in the middle not as heavy bullets as well using the Arc in auto guns. Considering the difference in energy between the Creedmoor an ARC to me comes down to do you want to use an AR15 or a bolt gun. This is a bit of apples and oranges here. The 22 creed is a magnum by all accounts. The books don’t do it justice, I don’t shoot anything smaller than an 85 grain bullet in mine. I use rl26 and send the Berger 85.5 at 3350. If you look at the 22 Grendel which is what the 22 arc is going to be, it’s not the 6 arc necked down. They will be using a 6.5 Grendel case which is a little different than the arc case it doesn’t compare. You will be lucky to get 2900 out of the big bullets using the Grendel

22s are varmit cartridges . They are fun guns . Low recoil , accurate , and normally fired far more often than standard hunt rifles. I would much perfer the 22 ARC over the 22 Creed for greater barrel life and less cost in powder for hand loading. I would perfer the 6mm versions of both over the 22 versions. Higher bc and bullet weights for deer hunting. Simply greater versatility with the 6mms.

The most expensive segment of bullets are often the high bc heavies. That makes the 22-250 cheaper than the creedmoor with its simple light bullets. But its range is limited. I find the 6.5 grendel using light for caliber bullets to also be less expensive and not consume a lot of powder.

They both are nice improvements on the lineup of options. But i dont think that the 22 creedmoor needs that much advertisement, it will sell itself in time. Hornady made 22 Creedmoor ammunition for Horizon through a special project. Hornady will make a run of a cartridge if a distributor places a big enough order, and they have machines available. I would guess this is a similar arrangement to the 6mm GT ammo that they make for GA precision. They are not promoting it because it is not really their responsibility to. Also, there were problems when developing the ammunition. Mainly, Hornady said they were not able to achieve the velocities that wildcatters were getting, and Horizon admitted that some of the loads they were using was over pressure.

The 22 crreedmore was designed to shoot heavy per caliber bullets at high valoosities. It's a legitimate +500 yard cartridge. For punching paper, it would be hard to beat at 1000 yards. People who are shooting that far don't generally need more support. Compared to the overall shooting population, it's a small group of people, and Hornady is not going to make much money off of them. That's especially true since those people do not waste their money on Factory ammo or Hornady brass.
@robertmajors17375 ай бұрын
Id almost bet money that the lack of marketing for the 22 creed comes down to r&d costs. They probably have very little time and money invested in the 22 creed, and quite a lot tied up in the 22 arc. The answer is an easy one as Hornady has become a totalitarian ammo oligarchy and the 22 ARC is clearly the revenue maker simply based upon the number of the MSR/AR 15 platforms out there, which garantees the end user will naturally utilize much much more ammo volume and in particularly money for the sales only driven Hornady company. I"ll also wager that there may be a military option in the buisiness recipe.

Hornady is a business, they need to make money on a variety of products. The .22 creedmoor already has non exclusive brass, dies and alot of load data. The .22 arc is exclusively hornady owned, no one makes dies, load data, ammo or brass but hornady. They've employed this strategy many times in the past, take the .204 ruger they helped launch. Its really no different than a .20 Practical (or a .223 rem necked to .20 cal), but hornady (for basically no reason other than they control the means of brass production) elongates the case, moves the shoulder and makes it so you cant just resize .223/5.56 to make .204 ruger. To this, note the location of the shoulder on the .22 arc (its not just necked down, its pushed forward).
@Cannonballer955 ай бұрын
The parent case for the 22 arc is the 6.5 grendel, not technically the 6mm arc. The neck is pushed forward on the 22 arc compared to the 6 arc simply because the 6mm high BC bullets they were targeting have long ogives, and to get proper seating in the neck, the cartridge would be too long for the AR with the original 6.5 grendel headspace. That's not a problem with 22 as the highest BC bullets will still engage with the neck with the original grendel headspace, I believe they are the same. I doubt its malicious or to control brass supply, you can simply neck down the already much more available 6.5 grendel brass down to 22 for the arc.

Horizon owns the rights to the 22 Creedmoor because they developed it. Hornady doesn't want to pay them anymore royalties than they have to, so.....................that's why they (Hornady) has gotten behind the 22 ARC more. It's their (Hornady) creation.

I emailed Hornady about 22 Creedmoor reloading info an they said since it's exclusively sold through Horizon they did not off any load data. Which I thought was kinda dumb considering you put your name on the box

There approvals vs marketing has always lagged about 1 year behind I bet itll be next years/this years market stick after they milk the 22 arc market

0 seconds ago OK let’s compare your 270 rem my 22 Creedmoor= You have to run almost 70 grains of powder I run almost half that at 40gr. If I run 80 grain eld .224. And you a 6 mm 80 grain at the 400 mark my bullets going 150 FPS faster and our elevation MA holdover is almost identical to your 4.5.. at 600 you’re only doing 1800 ft./s. I’m still doing 2100fps! So the longer you go out to quicker your expensive 270 Remington falls short compared to the 22 Creedmoor 270 Rem= more recoil, more powder, more expensive cases with the same amount of performance as the 1/2 price 22-CM!

What on earth is a 270 Remington?

You really should have the items you are talking about before you introduce them. I clicked thinking the thumbnail was the correct cartridge.

2 totally different cartridges, not really apples to apples comparison. the 22 ARC is more compared to 22-250 but out of a AR15. just like the 6ARC is not compared to the 6mm CM. just bc it uses the same bullet doesnt mean they are comparable, just 6.5 CM is not compared to 6.5 grendel. 22 ARC is NOT a 6ARC necked down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch Hornady youtube on the 2ARC you will get all the data and info you need about the 2ARC.

Chill... I said the 6 ARC and 22 ARC are different. It's based off of the 6 ARC with some differences. Are you now the cartridge comparison police? So what if they are different and not Apples to Apples. This was requested by my viewers to compare
@jjgriffin32755 ай бұрын
@@ReloadingWeatherby you said 22 ARC was necked down 6ARC, no it is not. why chill? im not cart police, if your going to make a video i would assume you would give correct info. i totally understand mis speaking. hornady even compares the 22 arc more so to the 22-250 so why not do a video comparing those 2 instead of why you picked the creed, ok your viewers wanted that comparison, even tho its not apples to apples like 22ARC vs 22-250.

@@jjgriffin3275 Well nothing gets past you lol. I realized as I was saying it that it isn't a necked down 6 ARC. Hence why I said 22 ARC and 6 ARC has some differences. Sometimes as a content creator you say things wrong. It happens...
