We share a same story. :) Have a vintage Citizen from my granddad, my dad was wearing it in an army training, and somehow it ended up in my drawer, like nothing special, and after few years I looked them up and I was surprised what it was, then my dad said it was from my grandad and that added more value than the real price of them. It really introduced me into watch stuff.

When I passed the Bar I gifted myself with an Orient Bambino. I know it is not even close to an entry-level luxury watch but for a new professional like me I just couldn't justify spending anything close to a $1,000 for a wristwatch especially when something like Orient and a lot of other watch brands offer great quality watches for less money. I get the craftmanship and heritage behind more expensive watches but I guess it's just not my priority especially at a time when the economy is only favorable to an incredibly small percentage of the populatuon.

I was offered a Seiko 5 Diver when I get off of high school and then all along my scholarship I bought various watches (another Seiko 5, a military One, a Citizen Promaster NY0040, a vintage Seiko Sportsman, a vintage Certina and a fun Swatch) and during all this Time I was lurking around the Black Bay 36, the old one with a Sellita and oyster bracelet, I will be graduated in December but in April, when I learned that it will be discontinued I got the last one of a Paris Store because it had to be this one, and after nearly 6 month I absolutely love it ! It suits my style very well, thus it’s discreet and only the people interested in watches notice it, i could carry it in all my adventures, I cycle to work and school every day, I do bike travel, I went to the sea with it and it’s very reliable and resistant. Of course its polished bezel catches some scratches but I bought it for it to be with me all the time and I know that every scratch was made by me, and will always remember me of this time of my life, the end of my studies, my first time living in Paris and everything, I hope I could keep it forever and I know that the Sellita movement will be cheap to service and repair if I need to !

My first actual watch was a Timex. I was in early High school. I don't remember the exact model, but it was close to the re-issued Falcon Eye. I remember being very impressed with the dial. The second watch was a Casio. Again, I don't remember the model, but it was robust and had good water resistance, which was important since I was heavily into Windsurfing. Finally, after university, I bought myself a graduation gift and went for a Seiko chronograph. I was already well infected with this sickness and never stopped buying watches. I'm an adult career switcher, back in school (medical). I enjoy watches. I actually got a Seiko SRPH29 and switched the strap out for a silicon one thinking it would be a great do-it-all in medical school watch -- washable, legible, etc. It's perfectly fine, but for some reason, I'm more often wearing my SRPE53 even though it's JUST on the big clunky side (though I can wear my humble SNK793 if I want something more properly proportioned). On days with clinical skills exercises or preceptor attire, I'll sometimes throw on something like a 1960s Timex Viscount (vintage Timex is actually my main hobby focus).

It is very useful for most students to have a watch without a screen. Ideally it would have some sort of timer/stopwatch capability, including a dive watch bezel. Phones are not allowed in tests, and being able to pace oneself in a consistent way takes some stress out of the process. Having to find the clock in each room, and figure out if it's accurate, is unnecessary when the student has their watch on their wrist. It is also helpful with time management when studying, again avoiding the distraction of checking a phone or computer for the time. Thank you for leaving in Teddy's attempt to say the old Timex slogan!
@acojo820510 ай бұрын
This just sounds like someone trying to convince their parents to buy them a watch. If a clock is in the exam room, then it’s accurate. A watch is a nice-to-have fashion accessory, don’t waste your money thinking it’ll have practical applications.

Hi there! On this vein, I'm a graduate student in a laboratory and have a love for watches. I've always been fascinated by the idea of watches being a tool that meets particular industry standards: aviation, diving, travelling etc. The Rolex Milgauss famously holds the title as the scientist's watch due to the faraday cage and the relationship with CERN. I was wondering whether you could do a feature on watches for scientists? Working in cell culture, I've found my Seiko SNZF15K1 helpful as the steel bracelet can be sterilised and the rotating bezel used to mark the time for reagent mixtures. Was wondering whether there are many watches specifically designed for this industry/field.

When I was in high school I bought myself a cheap Timex wristwatch because I thought guys with wristwatches were cool looking. But I didn't go for what my contemporaries were going for. Keep in mind this was somewhere around 1997. I bought a watch that was classic, affordable, timeless, and directly aligned with my stylistic sensibilities. Thing is though, I bought it with my own money. I earned from jobs and side hustles, and though it may have been cheap by your standards, it was a status symbol to me. Not only because I had a nice looking watch, but because I paid for it with my own money. I recently found this same old watch in storage, some 30 years later. I took it out, dusted it off, and I still liked it. It took forever to find what battery it took, and buy it, but the second I put that fresh battery in and fastened the casing, the old girl fired up like no time had passed. I own 10 dollar watches, and much more expensive, but the best watch is the one that tells time and never lets you down. And my 30 year old Timex looks like it's not letting me down anytime soon.
