So, you need travel packing tips and hacks to become a better packer? You've come to the right place! After 2 year of full-time travel, we have so many packing tips for travel in 2023 to share with you! In this video we cover our most recommended travel items, how to pack minimally for a trip, and share with you some travel packing hacks we've come up with since becoming full-time travelers.
Whether you are wondering what to pack for vacation, looking for some packing essential for travel, or want some one bag travel packing tips, we've got you covered! We could seriously talk for days about packing for travel, but these 22 travel packing tips and hacks are our best way to share lots of knowledge with you in a short amount of time.
If you want to see a longer video covering all things packing for travel in a carry on, check out this video: • What to Pack for Trave...
What we pack for travel and how we pack for travel has changed quite a bit since we began full-time travel in March, 2021. We started out by traveling with only carry-on luggage, which was amazing for costs and kept us in the mindset of minimalist packing, which can be hard when you are traveling full-time! We would have loved to continue traveling with only carry-on luggage, but there's a lot of gear to lug around when you have a KZfaq channel, and our backpacks were soon very overpacked. Although we are no longer traveling with only carry-on luggage, we learned so many great minimalist travel hacks and came up with awesome packing tips during our first year of travel with only carry-on luggage. These packing tips and hacks are the reason we can carry so much filming and editing gear around (seriously, it's a lot!) and still only have 105L of backpack between the two of us!
It's no small feat figuring out what to pack for long term travel or even what to pack for vacation, and we really hope you find the packing tips and packing hacks we share in this video useful as you plan your next trip. If you are looking to stop overpacking and learn how to pack minimally for a trip, these tips and hacks will help you do that in time for your next vacation or gap year :)

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico and in March 2021, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and began traveling the world! We never thought we'd be making travel vlogs on KZfaq, but after realizing that we had a unique opportunity to share our adventure and make the world feel more familiar and inviting to anyone watching, we took the leap and picked up the camera! We hope our videos show how wonderful, delicious, and friendly the world can be.

Totally agree on the importance of packing shower shoes! And great tip on using the space inside your shoe for storage. Another thing we do is wear our bulkiest shoes, which are our hiking shoes, on travel days.

All sound advice and definitely helped me with my three week trip to Ireland last month. Many of the items you listed here and previously such as the clip, soap bag, alternative material clothing (Appalachian Gear), reusable tote and functional souvenirs are practical and worth the price for some like the Appalachian Gear that was a bit more pricey but so worth the cost. Some items like the clip, shoe bags, and reusable tote I use even when I'm not traveling because they are so useful anytime. Thanks for the tips and hacks, they definitely helped me prepare for my extended vacation in a region with rotating weather patterns.

Great list! Sums up a lot of what I see on r/onebag haha. A few small things I do: 1. Carry compact roll of duct tape (or just wrap some around a pen) for emergencies like a tear on your backpack. 2. I bring some dryer sheets and put one in my packing cubes from time to time to keep things fresh. 3. Dry laundry sheets/tabs work great for hotel laundry. 4. In a pinch, shower caps work well as a shoe cover. 5. Samsung SmartTag or Apple Airtag are great peace of mind to have stored in your bag so you can always track it (whether or flights, buses, or whatever).

Great advice and thanks for sharing. We've heard a lot of people talk about airtags but we've never used them ourselves. What's your experience been like with them? Worth the money you think? We are super curious haha 😄

@@nicoleandmico I use Android so have only used the Samsung SmartTag but for $20cad, it's great for peace of mind. I typically travel carry-on only, but if I ever check into a hotel early or have to put my bags on a bus, it's nice that I can easily track it. I've been using it for over 5 months now and battery is still over 80% so I can just hide it in my bag and forget about it. One small consideration is that for these tags to work, they rely on other people's phones around the tag to ping the location. Apple is huge in North America and some other areas like Europe and Australia, but I've heard the tags don't work so well in less developed countries as there isn't enough iPhones around to ping the location, but YMMV.

What alternatives to Merino wool would you suggest for SE Asia? I do want to get a Merino wool bra maybe lots of Linen...? We are going to be in SE Asia for about ten months then Japan April/May and I am just so lost on what to bring. We have been in Europe so we are not keeping essentially anything, so starting from scratch. I think I am going to have a few Linen capris made in Hoi An, so I pack less. I also LOVE my compression sack as we are a family of 3 who travel fulltime with 40L backpack per person. My nine year old refuses to get rid of 5 stuffed animals and the compression sack is a life saver!

We used to have the Sony ZV-1 which is a compact camera. Amazing camera for the size and great for travel. We upgraded to a bigger one so that we can interchange lenses but without KZfaq I think we would have just stuck with the ZV-1 😊

Thanks for all the helpful tips! I have a question you might be able to help me out with. I'm going to be doing some international travel and want to take my Osprey kyte 46 backpack, but want to be sure it meets the size requirements for carry-on. It seems like it should. Do you have any experience traveling with this or a similar backpack size as carry-on only?
@nicoleandmico
@nicoleandmico 6 ай бұрын
Hey there! The biggest backpack we've traveled with for carry-on is a 38L which we had no issues with. However, in our research it seemed like generally anything over 39 or 40L is too large for carry-on. You could check some airlines dimensions requirements for carry-on sized bags, but you will want to keep an eye on weight as well. I think with a 46L, it will be tough to be under the weight and dimensions restrictions unless you aren't filling the bag (which could work!). We hope you are able to find a solution!

Thanks for your response! I am seeing just a few people on line who have said they successfully traveled carry-on with a 45 or 46L backpack, but much more of the info I'm seeing on-line makes me question it before I head to the airport with mine! Thanks again, really appreciate your straightforward and helpful travel videos!@@nicoleandmico

@@melissaellison5933hi. I don't know if you've done your travels but am here for some input. I've flown several times in SE Asia using a 40L backpack as carryon. If you're using a 46L one, as they've said, don't fill it to the brim and check the weight limits of the airlines which you'll be using. Many airlines in Europe & Asia have weight limits - may be 7 kg or 10 kg, depends on airline. Take note also of the liquids/ gels rule if using carryon only. If you're travelling to SE Asia or a hot climate country, you could always buy clothes from there & you'll be supporting the local economy. Safe travels.

I've never been a fan of compression packing cubes. It's so annoying to to have the tapered edges and not maximize the space of your backpack. I overstuff my packing cubes instead and not leave ANY space in it. It kinda acts like a compression pack this way.
