22 TOTAL RACES AND A MURLOC NECROMANCER! | Azeroth At War Open Beta | World of Warcraft

Mcdoubles back again with a brand new video and today we're going to check out Azeroth At War's new open beta and their 22 total races and custom Necromancer class!
It's been a long time since we played Azeroth At War, at least 6 months as of this videos upload date, and they have definitely come a VERY long way since then. In this video we'll see custom starter zones, fleshed out racials, and my personal favorite - the Broken starter zone - that may actually garner it's own video in the future!

It isn't JUST the fact they have custom races, any private server can do that, but it's the fact that they're going through the extra effort in adding in custom animations for said races and making it so armour can actually show up on them that's very appealing IMO.

@@nikolaikalashnikov4253 Blizzard losses more closing it than letting them operate. -Turtle WoW has around 5k+ in a week. -Azeroth at War is in development. Them don't represent a big problem for Blizzard, compared to Nostalrius a decade ago having 800k online.

That's what I thought WoW looks like in terms of races, when in 2007 my friend said "dude, there's game, it's like WC3, but RPG and you can earn lots of armor and weapons for your character in it". And thought "What?! So I can make a naga or abomination and wear custom armor and weapon on it?". Well, it turned out not one to one what I thought, but was enough to play WoW from TBC to this day

We went from not enough good WoW to too much good WoW there are not enough hours in a day for me to play all the cool versions of WoW i want to. Thank you so much for highlighting the interesting stuff

Theres always been good private servers around since Wrath Retail. People just didnt make them so public like they are now. You typically knew someone who played them or heard tale of them and did some research. Lv255 servers were all the rage. Blizzlike servers have always been around as well. And same with these custom servers, theyve just gotten insanely better over the years.

@@troublemakerbros4267 I was doing private servers during TBC Retail lol. I would go there and practice on Illidan before my guild got into Black Temple and there were a decent amount of "arena only" servers back then too. I think I saw an ad on "WoW Jutsu" leading to the "Top 100 Servers" lists.

Damn lol. Isn't this the truth. I wasn't feeling WotLK so I didn't play that. Did a few HC characters, playing SoD, periodically return to Classic Era, started a HC self found character and now I'm getting the itch to level my paladin (which I never ended up playing in TBC or Wrath after grinding to 60 during tbc prepatch) in prep for Cata. I hopped on YT instead since i have a busy 2 week stretch coming up and I'll save the next adventures for when I return. What a time to be alive. Really enjoying swapping between all versions depending on what I'm feeling.

Man, the worgen and broken "campaign" starting zones are just how I fantasize I would make them if I were to, actual chills. I would not let people choose starting zones though, and you'd unlock racials during the starter zone questlines. Very interested in seeing how the server shapes up during the coming months/years.

Kind of a missed opportunity with Gunther, whose whole thing is that he thinks he's the only sentient forsaken and everyone else is a scourge drone. It would be funny if he was gathering an army of murlocs to lead thinking he's all alone in the world.

Not sure who caught it, but when he was showing the blood elf, it lists sub races "Dark Elf" and "Wreched Elf" they just dont seem to have an option to pick them in the beta.

The way the AaW devs added in the broken race is so genius. As a lore nerd, I couldn't agree more with a better starting zone experience.

23:47 This gave me chills! This is straight up out of the short story, "Unbroken," by Micky Neilson, which was later canonized by Blizzard. This is really close to what it would've been like to see the fall of Shattrath back then.

For Necromancer, I think they should start with just the basic skeleton

I strongly disagree. The necromancer is a powerful mage who studied death magic instead of the more wholesome way of the arcane (mage). A necromancer COMMANDS skeletons, and is most certainly not one themselves. Name a necromancer in any game that is dead themselves? Skeletons are reanimated BY necromancers. So unless you want the lore of your character to include being dominated by another, more powerful mage…you should be a living being, and not a skeleton. Don’t even reply because I just destroyed you with logic. Bye bye! 👋

The “Broken” starter zone was HYPE, I wonder if seeing clips of hyper content put at the beginning would capture zoomed attention we all have now better. (I’ll always watch anyway, no worries!)

Naga necromancer would indeed make a lot of sense. I think it's very cool devs take the time to use the same old private server tools and tricks, revamp them, give a lot of love, and produce enjoyable experiences like these, props to everyone involved with this private server

I kind of like the idea of the Worgen Starting zone, however I would like to see a server do a full departure from the set event Worgen Starting zone and have a worgen starting zone similar to Vanilla tirisfal glades where the Worgen are trying to recreate their society or form a new one after they were cursed.

there was a server called awesome wow, I think? that had full custom classes, talents, spells, armour, weapons etc. full sets and different zones and quests for grinding certain gear. it wasn't that popular but there was a few things in it that were really cool.

in terms of lore, murloc on the horde side kinda makes sense. in wc3 - Sylvanas' banshee used possession on murloc

Playable Naga is the dream of many people, and here it looks perfectly fine. I have no idea why the Blizzard is still denying to make the Naga race playable. After all those years they can made all the necessary animations.

Wouldn't be hard to turn a part of the Naga population into similar splintered factions akin to the Dracthyr where they have different beliefs and those beliefs make you favor one side more than the other. And regarding things looking like shit, man I don't want to hear it. We have had Worgen for practically a decade and now we have Dracthyr. Both them mfers look weird in armor in their true forms.

Nothing set yet, the current open beta will be going until Jan 5th. Testing mostly lvl 40 content with the next beta focusing on 60

duuuuuuuuuuuude, i wanted to play as a furbolg ever since I played that one blizzard-made wc3 map where the creeps in ashenvale have their own bases also, 4:14 i completely agree. custom shit is what made wc3 so good and it should be done in wow servers

@17:50 - pretty much. The devs should prolly look into gating the summons behind level/quests similar to the warlock. Warlock starts off with a DPS, so maybe the necro should start with a tank

It's ironic that the Warcraft killer MMO probably won't be some unreal 8 engine game at the end of the day, but instead Warcraft itself ran as a private server that wasn't afraid to innovate and give players what they've wanted for literally two decades.

the drenei starting zone was awesome but I really want to see the furbolg starting zone when they do, I think was a bad idea pay a month of season of discovery when free servers are better than the real blizzard (just play 10 days and Im tired of that its pretty bad)

i always thought the warlock should be able to heal others too. not just healthstones. i mean in the movie they had Guldan take life from an animal and give it to baby Thrall. Its all about taking life and deciding on what to use it. soulstones, healthstones, summons. so why not make it a bit of a healer class right ?!

The ONLY reason I don't think Naga should be Necros is their origin being entirely Arcane in nature with them being past Highborne etc. Plus I don't think there are any in Warcraft lore no? I could be wrong lol

Necro Naga seems plausible enough to me. There are some interesting lore bits regarding the dichotomy of arcane shadow frost vs holy fire nature. Arcane is the moon, shadow is the night and the night is usually cold vs holy is the sun/ or the light of the sun, and the sun is a big ball of fire. Considering that most of the writing doesnt really have to make sense, I'm totally okay with having moon-based arcane magic having similarities and overlap with necromantic shadow magic. Arugal comes to mind in this regard, as he was both an arch mage and a master of shadow

I tried to download the beta but it's already unavailable, even though it says it will be active 'til January 5th. What am I doing wrong? EDIT: Nvm figured it out. DOWNLOAD HERE button doesn't work, just register, and after then go to the "How to Patch" menu and follow the instructions.

I think the next step for wow pservers is actually to make a completely new world maybe not even warcraft related. As cool as having a bunch of new races is, they dont really fit into world as a player charactet race. There should also just be more work put into the models themselves as almost all non-original races are severely lacking in personality. Its currently just a gimmick rather than a well-thoughtout feature.

The question is, if you make a female naga how many weapons animate on them if you duel wield? The merloc starting zone looks like that old merloc rpg village.
