I kind of agree, but my black on black hides the plastic well.. but considering it’s out there to help reduce fender paint chipping, I think it’s a smart move.. im absolutely in love with my ‘23 premium.. dealer had one well equipped and I walked out at premium MSRP

Not even remotely surprised tbh, I've seen some 22's put down 260whp+ on factory tune. People shouldn't be salty about the new wrxs putting more power down, if they weren't then subaru wouldn't be improving which would be counter productive.

The car itself is a great car, way better than previous gens, what people are complaining about is all the plastic trim all over the car would look a lot sleeker if it didn’t have all the plastic trim on it.

This is exactly why I keep trying to tell people that it’s not a huge deal they killed the STI. Yes the STI was a bit more raw but if you look at what the cars are doing in the real world as far as performance not numbers on paper, but actual real world performance, the WRX effectively fills the market slot, performance, and price wise that the old STI did and the new 2.5 RS is filling the slot that used to belong to the WRX the only thing that the WRX really needs is optional Brembo brakes, if they put that on…

@@reign5000 i've just seen a lot of people make comments about how they should have spent the effort they did with the WRX on a new STI instead but with the EJ still. I personally wish they'd revise the EZ36 but am loving the FA24 platform. If subaru can get their shit together with the RTV issue though, that would be great.

They launch hard but die fast. My 2015 makes 301whp/350tq. I can best my friends stock scat pack to 100mph but he pulls hard after that and edges me out in the 1/4 mile. From a 40 roll it's a total joke because as soon as I start shifting into 3rd i start getting gapped.that ZF8 speed is just too fast.

These 22's are impressive. So many haters it's funny guy remember when we see each other we do the subie wave. Anyways in our local subie club we have a bone stock 22wrx and 2021 sti and they raced from a dig and the sti won by 3 cars. From a 50mph roll on the highway the sti barely won. Both guys know how to drive and both had ca91 octane with 1 gallon of e85 mixed in

Can confirm, I raced my friend's 21 STI in my 22 WRX, he's got less turbo lag and better low end, he can beat me in the city easily, but on the highway he was barely pulling on me. Now it's very tempting to tune lol. Both are bone stock except exhausts, both running 93 octane.

I was thinking about getting the new wrx but I love my 2019 sti limited plus they now stopped making them so I will keep it and get the wrx later down the road but the body is nasty looking I hate but the low rpm get up is good from what I have seen

@@HeavyMetalWRX People bitch about the SPT without touching it...people bitch about the looks without seeing it..they bitch about the interior without sitting in one and the reviews by the internet morons...I watched rwo recently where they all but admitted they were only complaining. I have never in 40 years of auto enthusiasm seen a car treated so harshly. A giveaway? People acting all shocked at the look when it looks almost exactly like the VIZIV concept cars on the car show circuit since 2017. That alone is a dead giveaway they're not real Subaru guys. Many never heard of it! I think many buyers are children. Would KILL to see the average age, what experience they actually have. From what I see, vast majority had a single (used) WRX or STI and because this car is far more refined, they have zero objectivity. My two cars I sold this summer prior ro my WRX GT arring included a "sportwagon" Outback XT and 600 hp STI...previously, over 40 years? Too much to count. The WRX GT is phenomenal.

@@Tomas.X I did some research and according to JD Powers the average age of the WRX owner as of 2019 was 36. I agree that auto journalism , especially online and on KZfaq, has come down to doing hot takes that Garner views. I understand that but at the same time there was so much positive left out of these reviews , especially compared to previous generations. I still don't understand why no one is doing what I'm trying to do ( bring vs VA WRX and STi. Vids). Other channels have the financial and logistical headway to make it happen and bring this to the community.

Trading my 2020 in this week for a 23. Excited and scared. The rtv issue seems to be ironed out on the newest models but we will see. Won’t be modding this car at 2k miles like my last. Gunna wait a little longer to make sure everything’s good. That said, can’t wait to start modding it. I’m already ordering everything so that when I’m ready I’m ready.

Faster, and only 12-12.5 PSI. Bump that to 19-20 and it's going to feel like a whole new car. Not sure what this little turbo is rated for but that feels like a safe range. Anyone else get the feeling they under-tuned it purely for EPA ratings ?

As a 2020 sti owner，I do drive a 2022 wrx，to be honest the second gear feel as fast as STI，but after 70mph go 3 and 4，sti is much faster，2019+ sti do faster than previous gen，and this 18 sti limited is heavy AF😅

I agree completely. I’m in a 22 WRX GT…and even with the CVT, this thing seems nearly as quick as my ‘15 STi up to highway speed…which is where I feel the STi is just getting started, let’s face it. However, this ‘22 is an all around better car than my STi, hands down.

Flatiron tuners just did a dyno test with mild tuning. The 22 WRX FA24 makes much more power than the STI with stage 3 tune and bolt ons.

Right but this is not an ego test. It's more a bro science way of seeing how much better the new engine is compared to the STi. If you try to roll race a VA WRX vs VA STi it loses by quite a bit. This is to help the community understand that it's more than just a +3hp gain over the previous gen.

That’s not even the point of the race ? That’s the problem with most people like you, especially ones looking for attention from others and simply even if that means having a “fast car” first these cars aren’t fast, never were made fast. They’re quick and speedy little cars, but fast ? No, and second people love Subarus for more than just “fast” FYI, people love cars for a lot more than that and I’m one of them. Their technicality behind them, the way the EJ motors function, and the reliability and fun Subaru brings to the table. Then you get Mickey Mouse users who add whatever they see TJ Hunt or the next KZfaqr add to their car without an knowledge not knowing anything and then complaint blatantly about how the “manufacturer” is bad when the person is just mechanically inclined.

Unless you put a 3. Xr or 3.5 blouch turbo. Then they do ok at drags. I got a gt pumps turbo and run 12.200 seconds on e85. Switching turbo soom to blouch 3.5

Stock STi dynos at 250-260 to the wheel. Stock 22 dynos for the same. With that knowledge it's not that surprising. It's a 1 year old engine vs 30 year old engine. I know its hard for STi owners to accept but everyone always said the STi wasn't made for straight line speed 🤷‍♂️

Why is this considered a “fair” race. Sti obviously fucked up a shift. No car that is heavier and has less horsepower will be able to do this. No exceptions

He may have shifted slower there but he did not fuck up the shift. I have a full video with him on my channel and we are meeting again for another set of races. As for your claim of weight the WRX is lighter than the STi by a few pounds ( premiumnwrx vs limited STi). As for power the STi did not make 310 to the wheel, that's to the crank so it's much closer to the WRX which is making somewhere between 250-260 to the wheel. I know that many people who own STi really don't want to hear this but the car is a BETTER WRX and is closer to a STi. It makes sense since whenever a new STi comes out it'll be better than a 2022 WRX l. Why don't people understand this. Generational upgrades are a good thing. This video wasn't meant to push egos , it's for science. 🤷‍♂️

Check out prime motoring, they've been working on the FA24 platform for years and have applied a lot of said knowledge on their 22 WRX. They made over 500whp on the stock motor swapped into an XV.

@@straitupstaticx no dyno overlay needed really, if you look at a stock 2020 sti dyno sheet, the boat comes in until 4000 rpm. With the 2022 wrx you’re getting boost from 2000 rpm until 5000rpm and of course horsepower takes the power until redline. At the end of the day the EJ engine is built stronger internally but the FA24 responds better to bolt ons and base maps. The JB4 and Cobb base maps have shown that.

Makes for a great daily driver, Subaru engineer event explained why that it's the first WRX built on SUV platform using the Forester and Crosstrek chassis, so very comfortable and quiet like a SUV, downside is handling isnt good since it uses the SUV's electric power steering and electronic brake vectoring with no LSD at all in front or rear.

The WRX isn't built on an SUV platform. It's on the Subaru Global Platform which most models regardless of body style are built on. In fact the first car to be built on that platform was the Impreza and the SUVs joined the Impreza later.

Cant wait for feedback from reputable tuners to see how this new platform handles the closed deck built motor application specifically the 500-650whp range on ethanol and pump/meth injection. A lot of people are focusing on my friends driving. What is important here is the generational difference between the new and old car. Even if he did better and was .marginally ahead a new WRX is keeping up with a STi. Even if the STI got a car length it's still a better spot than a 21 VA WRX against a 21 VA STi would be. It's to show how far the WRX has actually come and less an ego about winning or losing.

@Heavy Metal WRX easy. Take the engine off a 22 and put it in a older Wrx. It might be faster but it's still ugly af. Honestly I'm not surprised u beat the STI. If anything I'd be upset if u lost bc that would mean Subaru didn't improve at all

Neither of the cars are modified in this video. No access ports, no flat foot shifting. The 2022 WRX doesn't even have launch control or flatfoot shifting even when tuned. This was stock for stock as the video title suggests.

@@Ryan-719That’s him hitting the rev limiter since redline is lower plus the throttle between shifts are much quicker than before since there’s no rev hang like on the VA.

In case anyone has never done a real dyno on the sti they come 240whp that’s sad asf i went to a stage 2+ and made 380whp 400t on a conservative tune stock turbo

Kinda blown away... my 21 STI bone stock would hit 17.5 psi often and when really pushed she sits happy @21psi completely stock besides the tune FROM STI. She sits 345hp 360tq bone stock 😅 and hear roumer stock trubo BARELY makes 350-60 maxed out. So I'd LOVE to see your mod list and know your dyno as factory turbos barely can support the CFM...

Nice video my guy, both are beautiful subies. Though I am curious on how that 22 WRX started to pull in the STI. But to be fair Im guessing the FA24 was built better than I had originally thought if so the FA20 is like a completely different phase for the car. It's still pretty cool. Low key though I honestly want to put my 12 Hatch WRX against the 18 to 20 WRX VA stock and a 22 WRX VB completely stock. I think my Hatch could match the VA nicely but the VB I would be a little more nervous if this video has anything to show for hehe

The FA24 is so much better than the FA20. The stock tune is incredible and the gearing is different. That's probably the main reason the car kept up. I need to redo this video because, it's true, the STi could have shifted a bit faster but really even then both being side by side in the same gear tells a lot.

@@HeavyMetalWRX Well my guy I hope you do find an STI stock or close to stock considering almost all STI's are modified to all degrees. The only thing I could I can think of where the STI would have an edge is it more aggressive oem tune and it's sharper shift points. How big of gain will the STI lead I couldn't tell you, I really look forward to it. I will be honest I have never been in or driven the 22 WRX. I've ever really driven the EJ platform, My WRX and an STI both stinkeyes. I can say I'm pretty comfortable with them. I have driven FA20 WRX but it was a test drive my time in it was too short for me to even have input. All I can say it felt very nice, Hands down the VA chassis has the best interior design that's it. I hope to see that video soon keep up the good work bud. (Note: Just in case I want to add I do not own or had an STI, only driven it was a Stinkeye like my hatch. Just wanted to make that clear)

I had an 2020 sti, then a 2021 wrx , now have the VB. It's much better than either of the previous models. Just get the limited trim. I didn't understand the reviews either after test driving one

@@lucian7182 disagree. But I guess you are talking about the steering. Aren't they both a similar electric system? They should have put modes. It needs sport mode. I know they are a pain but I do miss the hydraulic power steering of my blobeye. Can't they make a hybrid system? This is my first electric power steering car. Can't they make it have any road feedback?

This is to showcase how old the ej25 is ( not that the STI is terrible). It was inevitable that after 30 years the latest engine would be as quick in a straight line as a STI. That's what is being shown here.

Theres tons of articles and forums out there on the rods being the weakpoint based on the J shape of the rods for fa20s and fa24s. doesn't matter how they are supposedly "beefed" up from factory, the shape itself is weak. there's no way youre citing an article that was published before the car even came out assuming that its the same exact engine as the one in the ascent right?

On paper the STI is faster because it doesn't need to shift a third time to 60 what's slows it down about a half a second which transitions also into the quarter mile. However from a highway roll where that is ruled almost mute assuming driver is not bad. This is the Superior motor,and I've had an EJ 05 STI with 612 HP. When I was full bolt-ons and I mean three times as many boltons as my buddy (but stock turbo and 93) hs 2016 fa 20 he embarrassed me with just a j pipe cat back intake and he wasn't even on ethanol yet but to be fair neither was I. With no other mods but a flex kit he then has about 100hp more than me on E60 when I was on 93. The EJ as it stands I believe is a better milder motor to build based on part of availability cost of building and also displacement is definitely a factor but the fa makes around 400 horsepower for thousands and thousands less to the wheels and an STI and I say from experience. Fa 24 is going to hurt some feelings.. I know my 20/20 WRX has already out cornered some extremely competent cars like BRZ Honda S2000... Look I'm not saying it's the best better anything like that I'm just saying from my experience the handling has been leaks better than my 05 STI even with full suspension bolt ons and also leaks better than my cousin's 2016 WRX with full suspension bolt-ons. And mine is bone stock

The competition is between the 22 WRX and 21 WRX. The STi is just a fu comparison as even the 21 STi makes only 270ish to the wheel. The 22 WRX makes about 258-260 to the wheel. It's an interesting comparison to do because of the new engine.

The WRX is lighter than the STI and is faster than the STI 0-60. The WRX also has direct injection so it can accelerate faster. But once people start modding them, there are more parts and bigger power gains in the STI.

Just got my 22 for 28k. Had a 2017 STI and I have to tell you it’s not missing much in terms of power when compared to my old STI. It most definitely is a better built car in terms of quality and overall ride feel.

The modes on the c.diff controls only increase throttle opening; Meaning in sport # it you can depress the gas pedal less for full throttle

Sti shifts like grandma. But fas have more boost at the lower rpm so it doesn't surprise me at first. If they ran for any longer the sti would pull ahead just because the boost hits later and the power curve is different.

With turbo cars there will always be some wonkiness. In a perfect world a 2021 STi hits the quarter mile in 13.9 and a 2022 WRX does it in 13.6. These are incredibly close times. The cars are incredibly close from a dig. From a roll it does become a bit different. I plan on doing a revised version of this video but I have been able to confirm as both cars are in their optimal boost range the 22 tends to edge out the STi. The transmission and geering here plays a massive role as well.

99% of STI owners don't track the car. I understand what you're saying but this was only to show the peak power potential of the engine against the old engine. The STI is a much faster car overall on a track and no one is really arguing that it isn't.

Top speed has nothing to do with the engine. That would be the transmission’s job. Almost any car can get up to 140 to 150mph provided they have enough room.

I'm not trying to dissuade people from buying one or the other. The point of these videos is to show the gap between the WRX and the STI has been closed generation after generation. And this generation is the closest it's ever been. Personally, if there was an STI that's what I would have bought and when there is a new STI I will be buying that. But the new WRX is so much more than it's ever been before and I think that reviewers really didn't give it the proper respect that it deserves.

I can't really tell here but it looks like the STI stayed in it too long before shifting and hit that nassssttty hole in power at the top end. Could've been shifting but I assumed the STI is the one making the all that noise. Stage one maps really make both cars so much better.

I owned a 05 STI years ago and now own a 19 STI and without question the 05 was faster and more fun to drive. The 22 wrx could use a diet tho they are heavy and expensive
