Love this. I think I would seal the light coat before using vinyl. Then put vinyl on and do dark. I gave mine a thin coat of epoxy then did my vinyl and dark layer was way easier and vinyl did not pull up light coat.

I figured out my problem. I used cheap alcohol ink. But it still did ok. I'll keep that in mind too

Once you do it , it will not intimidate you at all. It is as simple as it looks. Give it a shot. My husband even did a UPS one for someone and it looked great.

@@SCARYHAIRLADY thank you, I actually tried it and my mistake I did not spray paint my tumbler so the light woodgrain lifted with my stencil peel up 😕 so my flowers are white as it was a white tumbler. But it wasn't to bad my flowers are white instead 😂🙏

I paint mine white,do the light coat,apply vinyl design,paint white again,do dark coat then peel vinyl...it works well for me...I usually seal the final alcohol with clear sealer before epoxy...this is a pretty design...

Yep that's how I do mine minus the second spray of white. How do you think that extra spray of white compares to leaving it out? Just curious. Thanks for sharing

@@SCARYHAIRLADY it doesn’t blend with the 1st lighter coat..it lets me do the 2nd layer of inks as dark as I like and it is neater when pulling the vinyl...I just like it better

I get most of it at vivid vinyl But I just usually search it and see where I can find good prices But don't get permanent get a peelable one.

So I did one just the other day and all went well until the end when I epoxyed and got some bubble looking spots was curious if that had ever happened to you and how to avoid it?

It has and either I had some oil from my hand on it or the spray I put on it was not right. I have good luck with kamar varnish. Also if you don't have your epoxy TOTALLY mix then there will be spots. There is a lot that goes into these. Good luck with them.

I think it's easier to add thin coat of resin and then add vinyl, that way when removing vinyl you won't scratch 1st layer of ink.

Do you wait until it is completely dry to add the decals, and dry to peel them off?

it dries so fast that it is dry when I add the vinyl. Then I do the second darker coat of alcohol ink then I peel it off. I do this on one cup/tumbler at a time. If it sits too long the sticky on the vinyl will put more alcohol ink off. So I do this pretty quick.

I basicly use a kitchen torch. Nothing fancy. I do like them over a heat gun.

I use a cricut from time to time; wouldn’t it be a lot easier to weed that design on the backing first then use the transfer tape? Am I missing something?

It sometimes depends on how easy it is to weed. I do both ways I have found that if I put the cut to a higher or set it up for a thicker vinyl it weeds easier. So I just do it differently for really no particular reason sometimes

Just come across your great tutorial. As you will be aware, alcohol inks are notoriously quick to fade. Can you let me know please how you stop the fading?

You can spray with a uv protecting spray. But honestly I have not had a problem with it I have had one for a couple of years now and it is still dark. It does not sit in the sun all day and when not in use it is in the cabinet. So maybe that is it. But try a uv protectant.

The Kamar varnish stops any more action of the alcohol inks. If I put epoxy on it without kamar it would run and be a solid color. Kamar stops alcohol inks. I do it on my paintings and cards. You should try this . You will be amazed at the results. have fun.

These are really stiff boar hair like brushes. they create the best stroke marks.

I bought it on Etsy. There is a way to find a design and make it a SVG from your cricut. I had to watch a video. Anyway. I just bought it and resized it on my cricut and cut it out on removable vinyl. Have fun with this.

i have tried this exactly (made it along with you) and 2 cups failed. 1st i know what went wrong, second i dont know. I went to add the clear coat and it all ran. I am crying i am so upset and mad! tips???

Oh no. Yep. I had a UPS Cut go wonky on me and it is disheartening. Ok Let's start with clear coat. Is that the clear acrylic or Kamar Varnish? The trick to that is don't spray too close or get too wet. It will reactivate the ink. Keep the can about 12 inches and do about 2 or 3 coats. Spraying too close can have a cool effect but not on this. After it is good and dry then put the first coat of epoxy on it. This is also something to keep in mind....Keep your hands off of the tumbler. The oils on your hands can cause havoc. I try to only handle the mount that the cup is on. Most of the time it will be fine but that one time it will make the epoxy develop holes or places the epoxy separates from. I hope your next one is perfect. you should be able to wash this one down with alcohol and start over. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck.

I used the Rust-Oleum clear coat..I found I was too close to the cup, which made it run. I will strip cup and give er another whirl.

These tumbers are double sided stainless steel Glasses that you drink out of. It will keep drinks cold longer or hot longer.
