I install flare fender on our Can-Am Defender. Without it, the mud gets inside and that is not convenient at all! Especially on my coffee mug!
Need the template and instruction?
www.instructions.brp.com
Then search part #715006001
The template:
brp.secure.force.com/consumer...
0:00 Introduction
0:43 Why Fenders
1:18 The front wheels stick out from the wheel wells
2:50 Dimple location for screws
3:43 Unboxing the parts
4:56 The aluminum lateral protection issue
7:05 Where to cut → the template
8:55 Tracing the cut
10:22 Cutting the rear flare
11:43 Dimple does not match... What to do?
13:30 Using the screw will be painful: using bolts instead
14:38 Unlatch the gas cylinder for better access
15:12 The front fender: missing one dimple?
16:27 Screwing the front flare
17:55 Quick view of the whole process
18:50 End result
This HD10 Mossy-Oak Edition is equipped with lateral aluminum protection, so part of the fenders need to be cut to a specific pattern
Instructions are available online for that installation, so are the templates for it.
Nothing like seeing it in real situation, as opposed to instructions on paper.

Worth watching the entire video just to see the inside of front fender well and where to drill from the inside out for the front-most screw. Cutting the rear fender to fit with rock sliders is also very helpful. I got fenders first, was ready to install, but then found the template to modify to fit rock sliders. They were already on order. Thanks!

Salut Joe!!! Nothing is easy eh!!! Even when you buy the kit from the dealer you still have to stick handle some to get everything to line up. Turned out nice though. Those flares will make a big difference. On my Can-Am 500 XT ATV I had the same problem with the dirt and mud flying up and getting all over me. I got the flares and no issues after that!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!

Talk about 'forcing' you to spend more money. The manufacturer already knows that fender flares are pretty well essential on their machines, yet they make it so that you have to pay for what should already be on the unit when you buy it. They've ( the manufacturer ) been doing this for years and yet we still 'happily' spend more money to finish off the ATV so we can ride it without getting totally messed up! You did do a good job here Joe, and I know you will benefit a lot for this addition.
@FromSteelToWood

@@FromSteelToWood I happen to know that that is about right,.at least the profit percentage on accessories is considerable higher than that of the machines. ( at least it is at a dealer near me !! )

@@FromSteelToWood Accessories having a larger profit margin is one thing, but items such as 'fender flares' which are almost essential, should have been standard equipment and installed on the machines during initial assembly, in my view. However CanAM is not alone in using that method of extra profit.. On anothe note, those flares you installed make your Defender look nicer too, don't they?

Good morning gentlemen. Joe since you found the dimples I am surprised the screws are not self tapping which would eliminate the drilling steps. If you have some tubing maybe some brush guards could be fabricated to act as guards for those “Did I do That ?” moments.Save the yellow paint for the “Beep Beep” plow markings. I am happy you felt qualified to do the job by yourself. Maybe the company will send you a certificate of approval. 65 degrees here today. Found “AK Dad” live stream the other day. Had a quick live chat. Cheers to both of you.
