Yes, we all fall into those rabbit holes: dies, stamps, foil, ink pads and for me it's Tim Holtz. If Tim comes out with it I have to have it. Not going to do that in 2023 except for new colors of destress colors. One thing that I have started doing the last couple of months is when I watch a craft video and I think I really want what they are using, I make a note about it or put it in my shopping cart and wait at least 24 hours and see if I still feel like I have to have it. The fact is, I don't usually want it the next day. It was cute but i would probably forget what I wanted it for over time which means I really didn't want or need it in the first place. I am turning 77 next month and I will not be able to use half of my stash in my life time. So I want to just do what makes me happy in my craft room. Thank you for helping me feel like I am not alone out there in crafting neverland. Here's to a great new year. Pamela in Texas

Love you!! I am turning 69 this year. Maybe it is our age that brings us more to the reality of things in life. We should spend MORE of the precious time we have LEFT to create!!!! I have a saying on my art studio wall "I want to make beautiful things - even if nobody cares!" that about says it all :)

I am almost 75 and have so much stash of several crafts. I love counted cross stitch, card making, knitting, sewing ….the list goes on and on. I will never use it all. Trying so hard to limit my purchases. Watching Floss Tube, Pinterest, You Tube definitely can tempt me to buy more stuff….I love seeing all the beautiful creations. Wishing you well in your journey.

I certainly can relate to that!!! I’m 70 and I keep asking myself, “when am I going to use all these stamps and products??? “ Or, “I hope I live long enough to use all these stamps and products!!” I waste precious time categorizing and labeling all my stamps, dies, folders, etc. I want to stop the madness and just create and have fun!!! A goal for me in 2023! ☺️

I so feel you, Christina! This cracks me up, because I see who I was in your resolutions. I could have bought a 50-foot yacht with all the stamping supplies I’ve bought! I used to have six 6 x 3 steel shelving units FULL of just card-making stuff, and I’d get more cute, cute stamping stuff from - - - all the sites. If Simon Says Stamp and Stampin’ Up sold stock, I would have been president of the board of directors. And I have literally said, “I’m not gonna buy another Distress Oxide/Ink!!!!!! . . . . (Unless Tim Holtz comes out with a new one) . . . “ And of course, he comes out with new ones! And then I had MORE ink pads. That’s the game they’re playing. They want all your money! It’s INSANE! Again . . . Maybe I could have bought a week in San Tropez with all the stamp sets, etc. The Want Monster had me in its thrall. I had two walls of my house full of stamps, inks, dies, stacks of 12 x 12 paper pads, I hardly ever/never used-things I didn’t even remember I had-duplicates, things bought on impulse, all of the things you describe. Children are starving in Sudan, and I had four identical $25 Easter Bunny stamp sets from scrapbook.com-one of which I used exactly one time. What was WRONG with me? I am not kidding-this is seriously a shopping addiction. No joke. It’s hoarding. I’m so amused by, “I’m not gonna buy xyz! . . . . . . UNLESS I want it.” I was there! I used to do that. “I’m not going to get any more stamps . . . [Pregnant pause while glancing at Stampin’ Up catalog across the room] . . . EXCEPT FOR . . . “ I took a hard, tearful look at myself, and a long look at my shelves and shelves of aspirational hoarding. And I gave half of it away. Stampin’ Up sets, Gina K Designs stamps. Inkadoo wooden stamps. Spellbinders dies. I don’t say, “I’m need to buy xyz to complete this project.” I say, “How can I solve this design problem with what I have?” I’ve gotten ‘way better at fussy cutting. I’ve found ways to extend the lives of my ink pads. I’ve started using colored pencils and watercolors that I already have rather than going out and buying more $7 or $8 markers. I don’t hoard anymore. It is so freeing! Use what you have! Good luck!

Wow. You inspire me. When I moved across the USA, I purges 90% of everything I own but purged nothig out of the "art studio". It is a source of comfort to me, and I have been using it up because I put a buying ban in place 3 years ago. Man, I so hear what yiou are saying about buying and buying. For 8 years I did more accumulation of supplies than actually creating with those supplies. That has stopped and I don't watch any YT video that tries to sell me more stuff. The cost of stamps and dies now days makes me cringe!

I was chuckling to myself as you confessed resolutions for bad habits I am also guilty of. What happens is I watch a great how-to video and just have to order the things I’ll need to make it. I spend too much time watching videos and then online shopping and never get to the crafting! My resolution is to start rewatching those videos and use all the great things I have already purchased! Happy New Year and as one of my favorite demonstrators loves to say, “Happy Crafting!”

This video made me smile, it made me smile because we all can relate to just about everything you said at some point in our crafty journey. Impulse buying being huge when watching hauls. I am looking forward to your "no more organizing, reorganizing" rule. You have a lovely craft room, but would love to see more video projects from you and nothing is perfect, so definitely give yourself grace on not having to have everything perfect. For me in 2023, I will be just shopping my stash and using what I have! Happy New Year! Hugs, Brenda

Christina, I agree 100% with you. If I made projects everyday for the next 20 years, I wouldn’t use up all of my supplies. I know I will always want some items (thanks, Tim 😀) but I am not buying things unless it will be used a lot. Also, I reorganize a lot, too. I do enjoy organizing, but there is only so much time and I’m using mine up moving stuff around. Hugs to you and happy New year! Mandy

my favourite trick for impulse buying is to window shop and leave stuff in the basket. if i return a few months later and i still need it then i may checkout, but 99% of the time, my taste has switched to something else and i simply delete the items (it’s such a buzz, try it and see 😆)

Great job Christina! I went nuts with buying crafts these past few months. I have decided, too, rather than buying more, use what I have and if I see a video with something i don't have, figure out what I have I can use as a substitute. I also am letting my card kit subscriptions lapse as I am not using up the supplies I already have when I use the kits. I recently reorganized my crafts supplies and there was no reason for me to buy anything these last few months. So 2023 will be a no-buy year for me as well when it comes to crafting items. In fact. I put a note on my wall next to my recliner (where I make all my craft purchases online) that reads: Craft tools, storage, supplies NO BUY Substitute, substitute, substitute

I really admire #6 and hope it brings you some ease. The amount of time and energy that must go into sharing content on KZfaq kind of blows my mind. I’m so appreciative of those of you who continue to do it and 100% believe in extending yourself some grace… Those of us who are watching are not looking for perfection, at least I am not, I am looking for someone who enjoys what they’re doing and that usually instills in me a motivation to get crafting and enjoy it! I feel that a good practice for all of us (especially me) is to use the products more than we buy the products. I find that I spend far more time shopping than creating. That needs to change in 2023. The doubling up on product definitely has happened to me so I photograph everything I have on my phone and check it before I buy. I haven't bought duplicates since.

I have just bought my first die cutting machine and I was surprised to hear that you won’t be getting dies that you’ll only use once. I have been scouring websites and stores, looking longingly at all the lovely dies. I noticed, however, that many YT crafters say they buy stuff they never use or only use once. Because of that, I promised myself I wouldn’t do the same and am limiting myself to only dies that I can cut on my little sidekick and only those that will be useful for the cards I sell. Thank you for reinforcing my resolve. Btw, I definitely think you should make another video like this next year. Many crafters need to hear it. Thank you!

I felt this in my soul, lol. I am guilty of the repeat buying and having supplies I have yet to use and continue to purchase more things. There was a meme going around that says buying craft supplies and using them are two, separate hobbies and I agree! I’m going to work on creating with what I have and controlling my need to collect things. Another passion I have are eyeshadow palettes and I really slowed down last year by not watching haul videos or palette reviews right away. It helped me to think about if I really wanted it or was I just falling into the hype of it. I’m going to apply that same tactic to crafting supplies. Thank you for sharing! Here’s to less things but more productivity in 2023!

I have racks, baskets, and what not stuffed with (design) papers, dies, stamps, stencils, inks, blenders, and you name it. I've got enough stuff to last me several lifetimes! Hi! A few months ago I went through all my stashes and thought wow, I never need to buy anything again. I put it all onto a spreadsheet per craft type and will “shop” from my stash first. I think it is the “fear of missing out” that had me buy a fair bit of my stuff. I unsubscribed to a bunch of emails so I am not tempted. Also not watching unboxing or haul videos because I would click on the links and go nuts occasionally. A lot of what you aren’t going to do makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the pep talk! Great video Christina! I have buckled down on card supplies tremendously in the last six months. I have enough stamp sets/dies to cover almost every occasion, enough cardstock and all the coordinating inks. I got totally invested in just one company and bought all the things. Its easy to do. As for my cricut, I started exploring vinyl projects more this holiday season. I know I am late to the vinyl project game. I still have the original cricut explore machine and was so tempted to upgrade, but I can't really justify it since I don't use my cricut but about one time a year. The one thing I did buy during the holidays was the tape runner adhesive. Hobby lobby had some packaged in their Christmas party stuff as "Gift Wrap Tape runner" I picked it up for 60% off, its literally the same stuff you use for card making. It was actually cheaper in the christmas section than to go back to the card section and buy a package from there. LOL! So I am good on adhesive for a while!

Christina, I can so relate! I don't know how many times I have found items I thought I didn't have. I too have put the cabosh on buying dies, stamps, and adhesives! It is just ridiculous, and embarrassing as to how much money I could have saved. I have several bins stored and it's like Christmas when I visit them. I can so relate, and I am glad I am not the only crafter that has this issue. I have decided to use what I have in 2023 and go from there. Thanks for sharing!

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G video Christina!!! Ironic how so many of those #23 items are listed in my 2023 journal of changes in my crafting I want to implement. THankYou for this list!!! Just hearing you speak them, up lifted my thoughts. 🥰 I’m super charged and ready to craft with what I have on hand.

Love you sharing your crafty resolutions like this. :). The last time I culled down my art studio, I noticed I was donating a BUNCH of things that had the clearance stickers from Michaels still on their unopened packaging. That makes it a lot easier for me to resist temptation.

I agree about adding extra quantities in the cart. I got an order that had 3 of the same dies 😮. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck on making positive changes!

You have been in my craft room too!! If my crafting space was as organized as well as yours I wouldn't have to keep getting it in order. Thank you for the video, really eye opening to the things I want to achieve as well.

I agree with you about the stamps and dies. I have so many that I have used once or not at all. I will try to cut back on lots of craft supplies.

I am an incorrigible fabric junky. I can’t go past a thrift store without taking home every shiny, glittery, sequin covered piece of clothing in the place to cut up and add to my stash for making collages etc with. I’ve had to by so many rolling shelf units to hold all my bins of fabric that I have had to rent two sea cans to put them in. I thank you for showing all your supplies you have a acquired that are still sealed in their original packages. I thought I was the only person that did that. Every time I see a new video showcasing a paint or other art supply that I don’t have yeti have a compulsion to buy one in every colour to add to the stash of all the other things I have every colour of. I am 71 and I have been collecting art and crafting supplies since I got my very first job at age 20 in a craft store. Every time I bought something I didn’t use I told myself I would have the time to use them when I retired. I have been retired for 10 years now and I have bought more new supplies in the last ten years than I used in that same time. Is there a support group for artists anonymous? I’m serious about that. Every time I push PLACE ORDER on Amazon I should get online and talk to another member to convince me to hit DELETE instead.

Oh my goodness, I can so relate to what you say. I am going to make my own list and print it out. I can see by the comments, I am not the only one buying in excess with craft items. this makes me feel not alone and I have more resolve to keep on track with my spending habits. Thank you

This was more than thought provoking, I am currently doing my kon mari of my art room and have found so much excess of many of the categories in your no buy list. I also just canceled all my subscriptions but one. I am guilty of impulse buying after watching hauls. I have more supplies than I could use up in a lifetime. I especially agree with the die and cutesy ( these often never even get used) purchases and usage. I am going to try to sell and or donate items I don't love, use frequently, or haven't used in over a year. I do mixed media also . TY for confirming my resolution for 2023.

I agree with you 100%. I do fine art and crafts, so you can imagine that I have tons of supplies. Recently, I have tried to ask myself the same questions you have, sometimes I do good, but I need to improve. I gave away lots of holiday craft supplies this year, and I still have an adequate stash. I too have purchased duplicates and more, because I could not find the original purchase, or forgot about them. Yep, I too have way too many storage containers too. I gave away my big kick years ago, since I have a Scan N Cut that is adequate. I am retired, on a fixed income, so I must reduce my shopping. Hope you just do a 5 things you won't due, in 2024, that would great as well. Happy crafting and happy New Year.

Love this video and you must be a mind reader because most of your 23 things are things I have been telling myself over the past couple of weeks. I'm going to focus on using what I have and try not to buy more. I too have fallen into that dreadful spot where I bought duplicates or added the same item twice to my cart and didn't double check before checking out. Such a waste of money!!😡😤 I have found lately that I have so much stuff that I feel overwhelmed when I try to craft. 🥺Thanks for this great video and Happy New Year!!

OMG… I am right there with you, I don’t make videos but boy can I relate with you as far as not purchasing so many crafting things also making duplicate purchases and getting sucked into the impulse buying because I watch haul videos!!! We have so much in common that I am saving your video and will rewatch it as often as necessary to stop the spending and having my apt overrun with crafting supplies… I could almost fit being a “hoarder of craft supplies” it’s pretty sad… I’m going to use you as my guide to cut back on all the extra things I buy throughout the year! Wish me lots of luck 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻and I’m a new subscriber to your channel 😊Hugs from Hershey PA

You came up on my HomePage on youtube this am. I have been trying to do a "no buy" all year as a sort of resolution for 2022. Overall, I did cut WAY back on my purchasing, but I didn't go full tilt. I'd say I made it about 80% though. It is amazing when you get off purchasing sites, for the very reasons you mention, and force yourself to use what you have! My "shop from my craft room" approach this year has opened up new ideas and more creativity than I thought I had ! I also went through stamps that hadn't been opened yet (far too many.....) It actually made me feel less guilty when I did purchase because I found I purchased only what I needed - adhesives, ribbon, and the typical "consumables" of card making. Quite liberating, actually. I've just subscribed and I'm looking forward to your projects !

Really enjoyed this video! I could identify with so much of your list. This past year I organized my basic shape dies to make it easier to found the one I wanted. Discovered I have 11 different sets of rectangle dies. Squares, circles and ovals are almost as bad! Paper and stamps are on my no buy list for 2023. Plus most dies. I have a few very specific word dies I want to round out my correct dies. I am considering a new die machine in 2023. Maybe a video on your favorite? Oh, and I just just subscribed.

#12! I keep an inventory only computer of stamps, dies, inks, paper pads, ephemera, stencils, marker colors, etc. so I don't buy duplicates. Because I have definitely done that! And also #13--ordering 2 of the same thing without meaning to. #22--love it!! I love storage containers. Thanks for the fun!

I love this video!!!! It’s nice to know someone else accidentally buys something that the already have. I have totally changed my style of card making. I’ve been selling most of my cutesy images and matching dies because I’m not a good colorist….even with my Copics. I’m selling them also. This is a great video. Thank you!!!! Happy New Year!😻🎉🎈

Christina, thank you so much for your honest confession. sometimes a lack of resources inspires creativity… necessity is the mother of invention! perhaps a simpler rule is to say: I will not visit any crafting website or shop until i have used each item in my stash to create something! It may sound harsh but i had a similar problem when i was younger… i bought lots of books that i wanted to read. needless to say, i didn’t finish many of them but had to cart those books with me for 20 years. i ended up donating them to charity! i only wished i did it sooner! recently i discovered junk journaling … it’s a fabulous way of using what you already have 😉 good luck with your endeavour 🍀

I needed this today. I’m going to really take stock of what I have and if I can get things counted, I will know that there are many many things I don’t need to buy in 2023. Otherwise it takes more time to label and put away items. I also need to get rid of items that I don’t like anymore or haven’t used in 5 or more years! Thanks much!

I agree totally with your list for myself. I’m not filming at this time because I don’t know how to. Maybe in the future. I don’t need to purchase anything else. I can shop in my own craft store, which is my craft phone. Too much time taking keeping things organized. Happy new year and more blessings to come.❤😊

H, I just found you and I like you! I clicked on your video not just for the title but the abbreviated length. Sometimes, I only have a few minutes to invest and the time plays a huge factor. I appreciated your honesty and it was like you were really talking TO ME!!! Apparently, we cardmakers share the same afflictions! I am going to adopt and adhere to many of your restrictions for the exact reasons you shared. I am subscribing to your channel event though I have yet to see any of your creations. I think you are spot on in your thinking so I can only imagine your creative approach is just as great! Thank you for taking the time to share and, again, I like you just the way you are!

I love this video, you have named a few things that I do. I have a binder that keeps track of my paper colors, inks, refills, markers, stickles, liquid pearls, embossing powders, deco foil, and glitter mist. I also have binders for my embossing folders, die cuts, Christmas stamps, everyday stamps Scrapbook Dazzles, and HOTP Dazzles (Christmas & every day) Then I have a ten-draw system that holds all my foil, vinyl, and glitter scraps. I now keep a list on my desk of items I need to order when I run out and make an order when I hit about $100 to save on shipping.

Great video! Ah, yes...the rabbit hole of rampant craft consumerism. I know it well. I have a friend who struggles financially and loves to craft. She is so pleased when she receives my "over abundance" and it makes me happy to see my silliness go to someone who uses and enjoys the products.

Thank you for sharing. I never considered myself to be a magpie...but I am. I don't have a craft room or craft area but products secreted away in multiple locations around our tiny flat. It is not just the products - it is also storing the made products at the end. I gave away about 1000 completed cards over that past couple of years - it has not made a dent in the space. Xxx Happy New Year to you.

This is so great! I know we can all relate in most of these areas!!! My weakness is that same daily browsing of my 5 or 6 favorite sites and I am really impulsive about whatever they introduce. And especially those favorite KZfaqrs who get free product and are often paid my companies to design products, and if course I love all their ideas and what not think I have to have whatever they’re using. And all the KITS. Ugh it’s such a weakness. I’m trying to have the mindset of, I have to really LOVE it to get it. Like can’t get my mind off if it. And I need to get in there and use all these unopened products and kits and actually MAKE. Thanks for a great video and many laughs! Have a wonderful 2023!

Great video -I've been watching your videos for a years and I always enjoy them. 1 -No more impulsive buys -I've been going through my craft room and throwing away items -I have bought so many items intending to do a project and never made the project. 2- use the stuff I have. I have paper that's been sitting - and I don't want to cut it because they are to pretty. I just bought some items and I already the same items already. 3 - Craft more. Crafting makes me happy - stop getting caught up watching videos/movies while crafting or caring what others think and just create.
