I have been working on an abalone shell looking pour for months. My best results have been similar to this one you just did. The big difference is I went with a dirty style cup and a ring pour method. I tried using silver and it always seems to create less than stellar results. This adventure was started with another painting that had a spot that looked like abalone. So my quest has been frustrating at times but I have some pretty "fails" that most would be thrilled to have happen. Layering the colors isn't working where the dirty style is to give a more random mix of colors next to each other. We have pretty much the same color palette. I have found that the leaf green metallic can throw a goldish hue out randomly and I think it due to it and purple mixing slightly. I'm also using black base and metallic black and regular black. Tried silver as a base........nothing good came from that. Tried adding a custom metallic white to get that mother of pearl but it tends to go muddy or take on any color it touches. I'm thinking the straight pour method with random wiggles and swirling like you did will get the more organic looking results and keep away from the ring look I've been getting. I wish I could get the mother of pearl color to fall to the background or lace around the other colors without it tinting. I find the irridesant medium from artist loft with white metallic and a cream white or silver makes a great mother of pearl color but the blending issue kills it when it takes to many other colors into it.

Yes. Abalone has a more silvery sheen. Grays with colors you used should be good. More pink. Love it. Can't wait to see....👍🙋 This one is gorgeous too❤️👍🙋
@kerravonsen2810

I think it depends on the species of abalone. Some have more greys and pinks. Others, like the New Zealand Paua shell, are more blue/green/purple.

LOVE IT. !!! I especially like that same area in the corner with the lighter colors ...that one be one bad azz pop painting if you could get the entire canvas to look like that area !! I cant even imagine how beautiful that would be. I love it the way it is now but just have extra extra love for that corner area. !!! Cant wait to see how it dries also. Congrats in a great pour. I do have a dumb question being still now to all of this if you dont mind answering... what is the purpose of pouring the colors from higher up vs making the little "V" shapes & such that you made to disperse the colors. I know the higher pouring makes the color sink down into the rest of the colors but is it basically for the same reason or something else ?? I've never seen anyone really explain the reason for pouring from up higher ...and thank you for explaining why you made the "V" shapes... and thank you also for sharing your time talent & knowledge with us & all the effort that goes along with it .... its truly appreciated. !!!! Thank you !! 😁😁😁😁😁😜😜😜😜😜😜

Hi Gina, another great piece as usual. I'm wondering can you paint over pieces that you don't like or do you always have to use a new canvas? I'm just starting out and some of my first stuff is not very good and was wondering what to do with it. Thx again for all that you do for us fans
