In this lesson, we shall solve questions on capacitor basics. We shall solve questions 5 and 6.
A capacitor is a passive element that is designed to store energy in its electric field. A capacitor is made up of two metallic plates separated by a dielectric material (insulator). The two metallic plates are spaced by a distance d.
The physical dimensions influence the capacitance of the capacitor.
The capacitance C = εA / d, where
ε is the permittivity of the dielectric material
A is the surface area of each metallic plate, and
d is the distance between the two plates
To obtain the current voltage equation,
We start by considering the equation q = Cv..........(1)
The capacitance is also said to be equal to the ratio of the charge on one plate of the capacitor to the voltage difference between the two plates.
The video describes the various steps and the formulas we are going to consider to solve questions in the subsequent lessons.
