I'm actually starting to learn about Berlioz and as a big Liszt fan, it's quite funny to hear that Berlioz admired Liszt. I'm starting to look at musicians more so now as actual people. I know how stupid that sounds but I use to think that the way they acted while playing represented them outside of playing. And I understand now that Liszt wasn't a vain virtuoso pianist, but a generous man who loved music and was damn good at playing it.

He was far from vain. His nurturing efforts to many of his contemporaries pulled them out of obscurity and let them rise to their fullest potential. He did that at the cost of his own life and fortune and his undying support for Wagner eventually hastened the ruin of his own reputation.

A little known fact: Franz had two lesser-known brothers by the name of Grogh Siri and Lon Drey who took care of the cooking and cleaning so that Liszt could practice all those hours.

not according to Alan Walker who is the definitive study on Liszt...twenty years dogging his footsteps. Also David Dubal, who has been a source on Liszt since the seventies, professor at Juillard. Adam was Franz Father. Liszt an only son.

Great video! Very interesting information about Liszt, who is one of my top three composers of all time (right up there with Chopin and Beethoven). You are the only one who continuously produces videos of all the great classical composers, plus guidance on how to read and play many of their most famous pieces. There is one mistake in this video - Liszt didn`t have any children with princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein. He only met her a couple of years after his relationship with the mother of his children, countess Marie d`Agoult had ended.

look at any random videos there is a good chance there is some dislikes its pretty normal. 3 dislikes compared to 157 likes is almost no dislikes so this is pretty good. So its probably not necessary to make it a big deal.

I find it interesting that there are people that consider Liszt the greatest pianist of all time, yet he broke strings when he played and took the liberty of altering pieces by other great composers to his own "tastes" and "sensibilities". Is there any pianist in modern times that would be lauded for performing in this way, let alone be called the greatest pianist of all time? I believe even Horowitz would have been ostracized for having played in this way. Anyone can played hard and loud. Playing softly, and with control is a whole different ballgame. I realize that the pianos of his day were very different than the modern piano, but still..........

1:35 What the hell could Salieri have taught Liszt? Salieri wrote mostly operas and choral music, never piano Liszt only wrote 2 operas and aren’t even famous works

i didnt like the music of Liszt if he had any .A formula one racing car going nowhere just running whos faster is the better musician. Listen hours and hours of Chopin yet I cant recall if I started a piece of Liszt and finished it. virtuosity and technique a form but no essence Liszt is empty of musicality and he knows that. How come young Schubert can compose small pieces yet all time masterpieces Ave Maria and Serenata and him ??...................

Virtuosity. The true virtuoso..root latin, is the bearer of Truth, which he demonstrated all his life. I think you better stay with something you. are familiar with, like race cars, since you know very little about music. If you are truly interested in a very objective lesson of music, read Alan Walkers three books, or you can Google HIs lectures at the Library of Congress.
