I guess it doesn't sound like such a difficult task, but there were a few rules involved here:
1) The locations for each meal were chosen for me by my Patreons.
2) I had to eat breakfast items for breakfast, lunch for lunch, and dinner for dinner.
3) I could only spend up to 2000yen for the whole day.
Did I make it? Perhaps I should have also set a calorie limit... :(

I struggled with breakfast when I went travelling around Japan last year. If we ate at all in the morning it was always a couple of 7/11 sandwiches and a coffee. One hostel in Kyoto had a bar where you could get scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, ham and toast etc in the mornings which was a god send. There were a few hungover mornings when I could have murdered an English breakfast.
@CriticalEatsJapan
@CriticalEatsJapan 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can always count on the convenience stores, but you're not gonna find a western breakfast like that so easy. Usually hotels have fish, soup and salad, so that was a good find!
@JamaicanMeCrazy86

Critical Eats Japan It was a struggle and we were trying to avoid eating any western food as much as possible, didn’t have a single McDonald’s or KFC etc. There were a few mornings where I really could have broken that rule! We were lucky with the Kyoto hostel, great little bar downstairs and the food was very convenient.

Fun video! Here in the Seattle area (and Oregon too, I believe), we have Uwajimaya, which is an Asian Grocery. They have a deli where you can get Onigiri, Sushi, Musubi and an assortment of different bowls or bentos. I don't get in there very often but last summer, I stopped in on my way home from work and picked up a few things to try. My favorite was a cold noodle salad very similar to the bowl you tried in this video. I took it to work for lunch and it was so fresh, refreshing and tasty. If you ever visit the Seattle area, be sure to visit their flagship store in Seattle - it has a food court, a huge housewares section and an even bigger bookstore. It has a much larger deli and bakery than the store that is most convenient to me and I can (and have) literally spend hours there.

Great! That does sounds really awesome! When I lived in Vancouver I used to hit up the Asian market from time to time, but I really didn't know much about the stuff there at that time. Also Circle K and am/pm used to be around too now that I think about it...

The cream cheese pancakes sound pretty good! Might be nice with a can of coffee. And I’m with you on 7-Eleven’s French toast not being all that great. Compared to Family Mart’s maple French toast, the 7-Eleven one is bland. Hope we can see a return to that Daily Yamazaki to see its baked goods and soft serve. 🙂 That’s a chain I haven’t seen or heard much about.

That is good to know if I ever do this again. I was kinda hoping to get the Daily store for breakfast because of the baked goods, but I left the decision up to my patrons so had to follow through with it. @@CriticalEatsJapan Of course I put ketchup on scrambled eggs as well. I guess we consider french toast to be more a sweet then savory food down in the US.

I ordered some Japanese candy off of Amazon yesterday. It's a variety pack, and I'm looking forward to getting into it. There's a name for it, and it begins with a "D". I can't remember what it was, though.

Do they ever put syrup on pancakes or French toast ? I thought it strange when you said Pepper and ketchup on your French toast. I’d say pancakes looked best

In a restaurant or at home that's pretty standard. These were just portable packaged versions. Try savoury french toast sometime ---it's the way to go ;)
