It's so good to be in Gisborne! We've both been here in years gone by, but never for long and without really getting a feel for what Gisborne is actually like. There's some amazing wineries, a handful of really cool cafes, beaches as far as the eye can see and some amazing accommodation as well.
In this vlog we travel around the city ticking off some of the best things to do and see, namely a few amazing beaches!
- Waikanae beach is where we took a walk, making friends with the dog
- Wainui / Okitu beach was where the surf was at
Food at Flagship eatery was boss level greatness

Those sunrise shots were from the Mount Hikurangi sunrise experience provided by Gisborne Tairawhiti tourism - sadly they're not operating at the moment so our tour was canceled, it's a shame, because there is a rich Maori heritage in Gisborne that we would have loved to explore further. The other great thing to do is (or what have been, also canceled sadly) is the Waka experience, that would have been another way for us to see more of the cultural side of this awesome city! Crumpets are big in the UK & Ireland as well... As a Kiwi who loves them, that doesn't look anything like a crumpet 😂 The holes are what makes them!

As someone from Manchester, UK it is definitely a 1st seeing a crumpet looking like that, but as long as it was indeed as floofy as it looked then awesome! Eating out during a bit of rain spit was a familiar sight though haha xD

Excellent itinerary! The breakfast looked fabulous. But for me the pinnacle was to stay overnight at a vineyard so that you could enjoy the produce. And that cheese board.......😋😋

when i visited Gisborne i thought it was pretty ordinary except for the parks and the wharf. Thanks for your show as i was wrong it looks like a great place, alot which i did not see

We hear you though, it's a pretty slow city so it would be easy to just kick back and not see it for what it is. We were lucky to get lots of great recommendations before visiting so kept pretty busy and enjoyed it

The crumpets at Chuffed in Auckland CBD are like that too! They’ve changed the menu though, they used to serve them with poached pears and it was the best brekkie!

I like the "milky" coconut and the "milky" soy - I only just discovered them, now that I've had to go dairy free. But then again I can't do coffee now so I don't know what they are like in that kind of drink! It's an acquired taste DF, if we had it from day one of our lives, we probably haven't had ordinary milk...

We have crumpets in the UK, but they're full of holes, even when you look at them from the top. NZ crumpets look so different, but similar to yours, they feel dense and fluffy. Never thought to have cream cheese with them though - now I'm curious! I was loving he mid century vibes from that cabin about as much as you 2 - the pink tiles in the bathroom were 😍😍

Crumpets are actually like that here (we should have said that in the vid based on the comments haha) we have the crispy flat bottom with the holes on top as well, and a lot smaller!

Those crumpets are nothing like the ones we have here in Australia. I’ve never seen anything like the ones you ate. Great video. Gisborne is one place I haven’t been able to visit but will one day.

Pretty sure you guys have the same normal style as us - flat crispy bottom, fluffy top with holes? This was a mega crumpet, probably why Stace was dreaming of them for 6 months haha

Watching whilst traveling, currently in Dubai, have been here 9 nights and leave Friday 4/3. Then off to Malta for 34 nights before returning to Dubai for another 8 nights, then off home to Hervey Bay QLD Australia. Trying hard to follow you guy’s as we go via chrome cast. I'm Scottish and that's not a crumpet. Next time in UK , get crumpets from a supermarket. Toast them both sides then put cheddar cheese on top and Toast again. A joy.

Beautiful area, even with the overcast weather! That breakfast looked amazing. I agree with your sentiment regarding Oat milk. Not for me. We have a Pacific Coast Highway here in California as well. Hoping you guys take a drive on ours as well someday.
