Abroad in Japan

5 жыл бұрын

The Shimanami Kaido cycle across Japan's Inland Sea is the most beautiful place in the country. The cycle route across the chain of islands that span it, is the best way to experience it. Even if it's one brutal undertaking on par with Mount Fuji.

Honestly, I'd spent the first 1,000km journey across Japan looking forward to this day, and it didn't disappoint - even if it nearly finished me off! Thank you to Sharla for joining the adventure; may your legs rest in peace. IF you guys are coming to Japan on holiday, for the love of god set aside a day or two to cycle the Shimanami Kaido though. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. (But your thighs will).

I just realized: Its funny how I avoided Chris' channel for a long time because his thumbnails look like the regular clickbaits. However, after watching a podcast (Trash Taste EP), his personality piqued my interest; now im here. Also, during the podcast, they talked about clickbaiting. Anyways, what im trying to say is that, all of my preconception of this channel changed ever since I watched a single video. And I don't even care about the thumbnails anymore, because I trust Chris' channel. That of which he mentioned during the podcast, about how he wants to build trust with his viewers. And if ever you're reading this Chris (which i doubt would ever happen), I could testify that your intention connected with me. That sounds kinda weird; but, y'get the point.

@@9BlackBetty2 I'm Dutch, by the way. In Amsterdam more and more shops switch to English. But only in the streets visited by many tourists. Older people don't like it, when nobody can speak Dutch to them, in a shop. The young survive, but it's a strange idea that Dutch might dissapear in some streets in Amsterdam. Helping tourists in English is okay, but completely switching to English is a bit awkward. And it could affect the Dutch language really fast.

Just completed this yesterday. It was one of the best things I’ve done in Japan. Cycling across 6 bridges. Took me just over 6.5 hours with 5-10 min rests every hour and plenty of stops to take pictures. I was tired at the end of it, 77 km from Onomichi to Imabari. I’d do it again in the future if I ever come back to Japan for sure. I’ll probably rent an electric assist bike to make to easier

@LostUndertheSky
@LostUndertheSky 5 ай бұрын
@@rmc23 I started in Onomichi. It's such a beautiful small port city to explore. I think it's one of the prettiest cities in Japan, so much charm and character. Don't miss out on doing the temple walk up the hill, the shopping arcade, the cat alley, and try the local Omonichi style ramen. I stayed there for 3 days. 1 full day to explore Onomichi. The next day, I woke up early, rented a bike, and started cycling by 830 am, but I suggest doing it earlier by 745-8 am. Once I got to the town of Imabari by 3 pm, I dropped off my bike by JR Imabari station, and took the bus back to Onomichi. I didn't stay on the other side, but if you're planning to stay the night at Imabari, probably look for a place close to JR Imabari station. I highly recommend it, but also check to make sure the weather is good and not raining on the day you plan to do it. 1 full day to explore the town, and 1 full day to do the cycling route, and the next day leave.

Wow! That scenery is stunning, and despite the Philomena Cunk style "profound" bridge quote, I actually did find this video to be very inspirational. It's amazing to see how much you and your entire life and career have changed since the weight loss challenge videos with the cgi jet crash. I have wanted to go to Japan for a long time, and my Japanese is quite good after studying for 4 years, but I'm busy with studying physics in college and any chance of going before I graduate is quickly fading. But these videos give me hope, and remind me that beautiful experiences like these can take years of working to improve yourself and make your own opportunity to get there.

I took a Shinkansen from Kyoto to Fukuyama, followed by a JR line to Onomichi where I rented a road bike from the Giant store. I had to rent it for 2 days in order to leave it in Imabari the next morning, but it was so worth it. Thanks again! I never would have known about this without your video. BTW, I hit up Himeji on the way back. That was something special as well. To anyone wanting to do this: you can buy a bus ticket back to the other side just in front of Imabari Station. Take care.

As a Japanese, I recommend this Shimanami cycling course, Kumano-kaido hiking (from Yoshino or Koya-san toward Kumano Nachi shrine) course and Kamui peninsula of Hokkaido as the 3 best places to visit in Japan. Especially in Kamui peninsula, I was so so so moved by its ultra beautiful aqua marine transparent blue sea and the history of Ainu, as well as super delicious sweet sea urchin if you like.

Hey at least you seemed to stick to the easy route(blue line). I wanted a scenic view of the ocean so I did many of the hard and medium routes. At the time it was 100km of "I'm never doing this again.", but thinking back it's an experience I'll never forget. Hokkaido will always be my most gorgeous place in Japan but those islands were beautiful.

I did this cycle 2 years ago on my 1st trip to Japan, and you're actually the reason I got to do it - you mentioned it in one of your early videos that I saw while doing research for the trip. I even got stopped by a random person while cycling there, who waved me down just so he could give me an orange. Thanks, I got to see something awesome because of you.
